The wig is going to be REALLY heavy if you get it right, so every gram you can spare when making the horns is worth it. They will also most likely be huge so if you could find some way of being able to deattach them from the wig without taking it off that would probably be great for you.

i'll be doing kurloz to a local convention later this year, so these are primarily for that, though i do want to fix up my gamzee cosplay and re-shoot it properly-- my old horns broke just before the shoot (one year of improper storage tends to do that) so i didn't get all the shots i wanted to get.

if you actually pay attention, plenty of non-anime related fandoms "invade" animecons, without even being related to anime. its going to happen and until theres a serious ban on all non-anime things, they'll still be there, whether it bothers you or not.

For one thing, a lot of homestucks are also animus. Those who aren't rarely attend the cons and rather go to local meetups.
A LOT of western culture has been making its entrance into animanga conventions, thing is you don't notice them at all as much because they don't have the same obvious group behaviour homestucks tend to have. If you see some guys dressed as various characters from some TV-series you probably won't think very much about it, because they aren't immediately relatable to the series unless you're really into it.
If you see someone with horns and grey paint you will immediately recognize it as homestuck, even if you haven't even read it.

Like another anon said, a lot of us are still into anime and a lot of other shows. Nearly any Homestuck that I've followed back reblogs a variety of other things.
I also feel like there's a lot more Japanese media cons to go to in my area as opposed to western media cons that are "everything else" encompassing. I would be happy to go to more of them, but the only ones that I can get to are SDCC and Comikaze. As far as I know, it's WonderCon's last year here before it moves back, so that's out for me too, and it seems like everything else requires a flight to get to and I just can't ever make that happen.
I know there was some suggestion of an MSPA Convention, but the response from the team was basically "we want to be able to run it ourselves." That's fine, but until that happens, cons will remain flooded with grey people. Sorry.

The tights idea sounds good to me too. Just be careful painting on the stripes-use masking tape to guide you. Or you could use bias tape to do the stripes.
