According to those working at Nick, Early april is target date the korra team wants to get it out. The episodes are pretty much done, only a few color corrections being done still.

Just depends on when Nick actually gives them the go ahead. Apparently nick is being ridiculous with scheduling.

Bottom line, I think, is that you shouldn't 'paint' yourself either way. It's always gonna look like shit if you use body paint to jump several skin tones, regardless of which direction you're going in.

Bodypaint really should only be used for fantasy skin colors- if you're trying to lighten or darken your skin, you should only go the few shades you can get to with either bronzer or pale foundation. If you use bodypaint and go too far, it looks bizarre.

To be honest, I hear that a lot, and I understand it CAN look weird if you do more than a few jumps.
But then there's people like Rick Boer, who was attacked for 'brownfacing' in his Connor cosplay when all he did was darken the shadows of his skin with makeup and nothing really else, and then the one Korra cosplay that got so much flack for the same thing, when she'd just used her normal foundation to make herself appear as dark as she usually is, because she was going through a pale time.
Like, honestly, I understand some of your point. But I can't take these argument seriously when I see the people that get attacked for it. :/

The most I think anyone could get away with and not look ridiculous is if a white person did some tanning, but not a huge amount.

I'm white and am cosplaying a tan/brown character, but I'm just gonna get enough tanning done to look summery/healthy since I'm so pasty normally. I think most artifical tanning/painting is gonna look like crap. The problem is that skin is pretty transluscent and most theater makeup just makes a weird solid layer. Regular makeup of a foundation for a skin tone a couple shades darker MIGHT work but you have to test it out ahead of time and make sure it's consistent on any skin showing. If someone darker was trying to get lighter I guess this could work but just getting a foundation a couple shades lighter.

In the end give it a try, but don't go extreme.

Like I said in my post, I think that's totally fine. I've seen plenty of people use powder makeup to darken themselves a few tones, and I think it looks fine and is totally acceptable.

The thing that looks stupid is when people use heavy creme makeup to jump several skin tones. It looks unnatural.
