I just... I don't understand why girls would do this to themselves. Are they getting something out of actively deceiving people like this? Because I don't see why else you would change your appearance with makeup like this otherwise. It can't be to get guys, because sooner or later, they will see them without makeup on. How can they live like this? How can they be comfortable with changing their appearance so drastically? The girls in the picture, they're the same girls, but at the same time, they're not.

If someone can explain this, please do, because this has me completely baffled.

We're talking about the usage of makeup. NOT when it is NOT used.

Reading through comments like that just makes me cringe at how people's double standards are so high. And that these people only say those things to make themselves seem/feel better than the people in topic, when in reality they would jump at athe chance to do so if they knew how and if the timing is right.

Those girls are not supposed to be used as role models but they shouldnt be persecuted for being better at something than most people. They improved their looks through their skills of makeup so what's the problem with that?

Arent they doing the same thing? They're enhancing their features and make their eyes stand out more with the use of eyelid glue and contact lenses.

They enhanced their features to the point of looking different because their pictures are taken from high angles. If you look at them at the normal angle the difference is not that huge.

I still think it falls under the "enhance what you have" category compared to "Change" which falls under surgery.

Either way, it's human nature to admire pretty things. Different people have different standards. Some want to look pretty because they like looking at themselves while some do it for the positive reactions and compliments from other people that make them feel good about themselves.

I have the combination of both but it's mostly because I want to look at myself in the mirror and feel good about myself.

>inb4 you can feel good about yourself deep within and fat and other acceptance bullshit

I have an average life, I am not fat and I am not aiming to be a net idoru nor am I active on social networking sites. I just like looking at pretty sights and what better way to start than with myself?

Let's face it. We're in /cgl/ right now because we like pretty things and pretty people. We are all aware of that. Acting like that and washing your hands afterwards make you seem like a complete hypocrite.

I think the reason why makeup works so dramatically on Asian girls is because Asian features are much less defined than white features. In more blunt terms, Asians have flatter faces. So they are more like a blank canvas while white girls are like an already partially sculpted bust. You can create all the highlights, angles, shadows, etc on Asian features but they are already present with white features so there isn't much you can do.

Not to start a shitstorm, but it seems as if many in the West value "authenticity" (being "real") which has issues of its own (few people are naturally beautiful). In Asia there seems to be less stigma against being sort of "unnaturally" made up if the results look good.

And yeah, the reason we don't get these dramatic results with white girls is that Asians have flatter, less obvious features, and they do tons of stuff to their eyes (contacts, tape, makeup) to make them stand out more, while whites have less to do in that regard.

Agreed. The motto in Asia seems to be "if you don't look good, use makeup, and if you don't look good with that, you can get surgery" - it's about the presentation to the outside world as opposed to "natural" beauty, of course you're still praised if you're naturally attractive in Asia but it's okay to get some help if you aren't. Sure is a lot of anger ITT... Makeup is a choice. Some people don't need it, some people feel like they do. Both are chill. No need to say people are deceiving others, and no need to claim that you are prettier.

I personally don't wear makeup daily. My skin is quite clear, which is one of the biggest things I care about. However, if I am going on camera, I wear some powder and eye makeup because otherwise everything is amplified. And, of course, cosplay requires make-up to look good because even the clearest skin isn't animu-tier. Those online-girls are actually pretty interesting, because makeup transformations are fun for me. But, I'm also lazy in the morning, so fuck doing that shit every day.

they do put all sorts of healthy stuff in make-up. They also put some bad stuff in there (avoid aluminum, but you should do that with deodorant too).
I've worked for a make-up company before. Honestly, you do need to be aware of what your skin is absorbing, so make-ups like Clinique, Almay, and Physicians Choice have less fats and harsh chemicals than others. Mary Kay is on the edge, and has some that are better for skin than others (that's the company I used to work for, I stopped when they wouldn't give me a straight answer about the dangers of putting aluminum in their anti-aging line, and I didn't want to sell it to my customers).

I think there's a line between enhancing your features and transforming them into something else.
Wearing eyeliner is enhancing.
Wearing foundation is enhancing.
Curling your lashes is enhancing.

Shaving off your eyebrows and drawing them back on is transforming.
Wearing circle lenses is transforming.
Photoshopping your jaw smaller is transforming.
You're not "enhancing" your natural features here. You're either hiding or covering up what is naturally on you and replacing it completely with something else.

But idk, most women I've met tend to understand this difference. It's only the pancake-face, high school girls with the chola sharpie brows that say bullshit like "ITS MUH BODY AND ITS FUN AND I DONT CURR IF YOU NORMIES THINK IT LOOKS BAD DIE PATRIARCHAL OPPRESSIVE SCUM."

Halfu chiming in: I would have to agree with >>6665160 said. Most anyone can contour and highlight their face, use eyeshadows, liner etc. but I know a lot of girls with 100% Asian genetics have broad cheekbones making their face seem wider/rounder. Add sparse hair in general and you're not going to find super distinct features. I don't think it's a crime to want to use something to fill in your brows or enhance your eyes with some eyeliner, define your face etc.

I don't see why it bothers some people that girls like in OP used kawaii makeup and myspace angles to the extreme. Them using makeup is not even on my radar of shit to care about. In fact, it's kind of amazing to me that it's even the same people.

People do loads of things I don't agree with on a daily basis, but as long as it doesn't harm me, whatever. I think worrying about shit like that will prematurely age you with stress rather than wearing makeup daily. Oh and for the record, I am 31 and wear makeup 5 of 7 days/week for work. I wear sunblock and guess what... no premature aging, no leather-face! In fact, people ask if I'm in college. It's about making good life choices for yourself. If you're going to use makeup, pick stuff that's actually healthy (typically speaking the fewer ingredients the better, built in moisturizers/sunblock are a plus), don't smoke, rarely drink, eat healthily, exercise often, and get as close to 8hrs of sleep as possible.

Well the reason why the circle lens thing is a 50/50 for me is because I don't think all of them are transforming just the same as I don't think colored contacts are necessarily transforming.
I don't think they're transformative if they enhance your natural eye color or are a reasonable diameter.

But when people get super crazy colors or designs, or get the Super series which make your eyes look alien that's very transformative.

I don't really find haircuts to be transformative. Although to be exact it certainly can enhance your face at different lengths and cuts. Hair coloring also seems to be fine as it's enhancing your natural hair. So even if it's pink or bleached blonde, it's really no different than putting a colored eyeshadow on your eyes.

Wigs however are transformative because you're covering up your natural feature and replacing it with something fake.

The basic belief is that it can build up in your system and lead to toxicity re: neurological issues, cancers etc.

Aluminum is naturally occurring in food and water etc. but I think the argument is that with something that's applied daily like anti-perspirants and cosmetics, it is absorbed through the skin and adds to your intake through foods/water and can build up.

Dimentia and kidney problems. a lot of the studies are circumstantial and inconclusive, but remember that people used to use lead in their make-up and it took decades on decades to fully prove what a bad idea that was.
other harmful things:
-BHA/BHT - MAY cause cancer
-DMDM hydantoin, diazolidinyl urea, imidazolidinyl urea, methenamine and quarternium-15 - these have formaldehyde which causes cancer
-Parabens - may cause problems in male reproductive health

Even if I think what they do is too extreme, I don't see why you shouldn't try to look better simply because someone might see you in a worst state.
i.e. not trying to dress pretty because your boyfriend will surely see you in your lazy day outfit or not ever do your hair because he'll be sure to caught you after a shower.

But I do understand where you are coming from. I don't mind the make-up, but the 'shoop and the myspace angles always baffled me since they make the pictures extremely unrepresentative of reality. They seem like entirely different people.
But, I guess if you really don't like yourself, having a different persona online loosely based on your real self might be great.

Still, if you show those pictures to people you know or will know IRL, it's just dumb since they can only think less of you.
This is why I don't like showing too great pictures of myself, i'd rather have people think I look even better IRL than be disappointed.
