Didn't see one in this catalog, so let's start an armour thread.
Any /cgl/ers working on armor cosplays?

Sort of?

Just a sketch of it...

I so wish I had the money to do armor cosplay, because that is my absolute favorite thing to craft.

I also wish I was at my desktop, where I have an entire folder for this.

Is this the right place to ask about scalemail? Making a cosplay but I need to make scalemail. Anyone have any good tips/tutorials?

Going to pepakura it.

The jaw area will be covered by two panels that hold small speakers in them that can be pulled back.
The front middle section actually unbuckles in certain areas so you can just essentially climb in.
The mouth with be set on a hinge and have an elastic material to hold it in place so I don't have to worry about it being open when my mouth isn't.
Going to install these old car speakers I have into those round sections, then install leds/strip lights in certain areas.
Gotta figure out how I'm going to provide power to all of it, but that will come later.

What do you guys think is the best material to make armor out of for a first timer? I was thinking craft foam since there are a ton of tutorials for it but I don't want it to look terrible. Though I don't want to get ahead of myself and use something I'm not familiar with either.

Pep or foam are usually the best options for first timing it.

It's my toughest project yet, but I'm making the Lannister guard armor from Game of Thrones for Jaqen H'Ghar. It's taken nearly every skill and some I've had to learn to make this. It'll hopefully be done by Wondercon.

I made this non-cosplayer friendly (lightweight, easy to wear and comfortable) armor/costume for a friend out of layered vinyl and liquid leading for the raised detail.

It was my first time working three dimensionally like that and it wasn't perfect, but was also kind of fun. Making it easy to wear for a casualfag was definitely the hardest part.

Been trying to plan out Taric's armor. His feet/shoes-things look so incredibly retarded looking. I really am not looking forward to walking around in triangles.

>> No.6657913

>>6657885

You can always take some artistic liberties with those you know. I don't think their intent was to literally be triangles.

>> No.6657911

>>6657885
That would be really disproportionate in person anyways. Once you scale it for a normal sized person it should be less ridiculous.

>> No.6657922

>>6657913
Truth to the artistic liberties. I judge costume competitions and if someone came to me with original reference and a sketch of changes they made to not look fucking stupid, I would not take off any points. Part of recreation costuming from fictional, not-on-a-real-human sources is knowing when something looks pants on head stupid and how to make it look good instead. Interpretation.

>> No.6657932

>>6657911
Yeah I know it should be smaller based on my shoe size but the basic design of them still kinda throws me off.

>>6657913
What do you think I should make them look like? I'm not sure how to keep the general look the same without making bizarre corner cockroach killer boots.

Fa/tg/uy here. I've been thinking about putting together a Cygnaran Stormblade kit from Warmachine at some point (perhaps in time for PAX East 2014), but I've never made anything of the sort before. Any pointers or guides?

Pic related: the makers of the game were good enough to include a blown-apart view of their kit in one of the source books.

I am making articulated hands for a Vi (League of Legends) Cosplay. I am following http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJOg-Bf581w.. However for the actual design and forearm I am wondering what to use. I was thinking styrofoam block, however with spray paint it wont work to well. I am using the tubaware used in the video for the under side but the forearm bit seems a bit more flat than the tubaware would put out. Maybe the tubaware for the underside and then some kind of tubaware that is more flat on the top.

The arm pieces just need mod podge for the foam trim and then paint.

The chestpeice is cardboard, plaster, and cheap clay. once i cast a mold I'll cast a fiberglass piece. I'll probably go back and redo this part because a slip up in the drafting early on keeps it from being screen-accurate.

Btw sorry about these being sideways, they appeared just fine in preview.

This picture of the leg flap is before i added the ridges and rivets to it. Like the arm pieces, It's ready to mod podge and paint.

the undersuit is fully together, the cape needs to be attached, and the only part that wasn't done by me, the wig, was a pretty good red girls wig that my friend turned into greasy-looking man-hair with a white streak.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to attach a pauldron without really having a strap go around the arm or across the body?
I honestly need to make something more like armored epaulettes and I just don't know how I should go about attaching them.
Many thanks!

well, if the cloth at your shoulder have strings attached to it then you can lace the pauldron to it. Or if you have a breastplate you can attach it to that.
