What are some pet peeves when it comes to homestuck cosplay?

mine are:
1. Daves with bieber hair
2. Fucking genderbends. Enough people already half ass the canon characters so if you're gonna do a genderswap take time to plan it out and put effort into it. A fucking miniskirt and belt from hot topic doesn't count at all, which is what most people do. I would actually love to see a gender swapped cosplay in which the character doesn't look like a hooker in thigh highs with makeup done by a toddler.

To throw in a small critique--please, please bother to make more bracelets. I see SO FEW Condesces actually make enough bracelets, and you almost never see any around their upper arms. Most of them just stop at buying a few pieces from Claire's and maybe like half heartedly stretching an elastic one over their bicep. It makes a BIG difference when you do it.

Quick question - I'm making some god tiers out of fleece, and am wondering how to go about finishing the edges. I don't know if I like the idea of hemming because it may turn out bulky and weird (plus I'm doing a Maid so the hem will be visible on the back portion from the front) but I don't really know any other options. Anyone have any advice?

Yeah I was going to thin the sideburns and use either crepe hair or cuttings to make sideburns on the day. They were just there as a placeholder.

ANybody have advice on how to go about making leg wraps for the maid god tier, that can be slipped on and off? I don't wan tto go through the hassle of readjusting them over and over again, but sewing strips / elastic would basically mean that the elastic wouldn't stretch because of the thread restricting it.

I already have well tailored shirts, nice dress shows and a nice selection of silk ties.

Well, his pants show white. If you're going to go for a full white face and that, then white defiantly. If your gonna show your face but don't like the all white, a light grey could word.

Dad is a good fit for the older male homestuck cosplayers who want to break in with something classic.

For pants, I'd recommend a good pair of black slacks. Why black? I tried white and it just didn't look appealing in the least, black pants (and a matching black belt) give off a better impression of "old businessman."

For hats, a white Fedora is your answer. Sad to say, however, that the only type of Fedora I've seen do the costume any justice is this one:

No offense, Rel, but this is a really impractical and time-consuming way of doing it. I've seen people who have done it this way- it looks bulky and sloppy 99% of the time, and there's no need for that when there's an easier way to do it that looks a thousand times better.

I really like that Aranea's dress! They're cute, too, but could stand with a little makeup (and before anybody goes all "natural beauty!!1!!" on me: makeup is invaluable in cosplay to keep your features from fading away, ESPECIALLY in troll cosplay so that your face doesn't just become one big blob). Their glasses could be a little slimmer, too - They're almost round, and Aranea's are cat-eye. I don't think it's necessary to style the wig because of how natural it looks (or is that hair??), but you could get it a little shorter/flippier if you were being really anal (like I am, but hey, I'm critiquing)

The Meenah I can't really say much about since all you can really see is their face and shoulder. I'd advise investing in a wig, at least. The grand majority of the time wigs will look better than hair, and you don't have to worry about stringy gross greasiness or going limp over the day! She could probably due with sanding her glasses, they're a bit lumpy. Their trident looks great from what I can see, though.

Other than that just the makeup!!! I think the basic shape of these are good. I'd suggest sanding them to make the slant smoother. Don't make it pointy, but make the tip less bulbous.

What are you making them out of? I'm guessing model magic from the picture, but who knows.

Hey HSG, I'm thinking of doing an Evil/Crockerfied Jane cosplay but I'm not sure what to do about the face circuitry. I just don't think I could draw it on in a way that wouldn't look cartoony and bad. I'm thinking about not doing it on my face and just doing it on the outfit, but maybe there's a way I haven't thought of? I've thought about maybe using scar makeup (like rigid colloidon) to draw it on (then coloring it with eyeliner) to give it a bit more depth and texture, what do you think?

"Skinnyfat" is when somebody with a small frame has more fat than what would be natural for their size. That Jake looks like they have a medium frame with medium fat. They might be a bit chubby, but they aren't overweight I'd think.

Use PAX paint, there's a good tutorial going around for it, you have full mobility of your arms, it still looks and feels like skin but it doesn't rub off on anything. AND you can match it perfectly to your paint.
