Pretty much this.

Now, hopefully you're not using his amazing song as a drinking song and know the true meaning of it.

Also, depending on who you invite to a con party, it might be fun or full of drama and legal issues. Just party with your friends and anyone who your friends know very well. Strangers at con parties tend to ruin shit.

They're fine if I'm waiting on a panel. No more allowed in my room though. A roomie had friends over (only three in the room when I left). One of them broke a prop and tried to hide it without telling me. Sad and furious.
Its fine for 10 minutes but id rather wander the floor and take photos of people.

Depends on how big the room is.

I always keep my own room a party-free area though, even if I have the biggest. I'm not getting all my fucking alcohol drunk by random strangers. If it's a close-knit group of friends though then I would, and play drinking games all night.

Seagull parties are usually fun.

Personally, me and my group (and any others we acquire) usually take our partying to the con if it's open 24 hrs.
Too many delicate costume pieces in the room to let in drunken strangers. We do utilize the bathroom en masse for any activity that might upset the smoke detector, however.

Such a fucking good song.

I imagine it's like any other house party.
-Lots of cheap ass booze
-Music
-A relatively shared interest in getting dicks wet.
-Inappropriate asshole behavior (destruction of property, etc)

Probably different in the sense that:
-There's a great deal more social awkwardness
Which probably leads to:
-More memes, oubursts, or lolrandom behavior to cope with anxiety
-More people who, because they are nervous, respond inappropriately in social settings (usually through condescension in an effort to compensate)
-A uniquely shared interest in "nerd culture" which may or may not help get one's dick wet.
-The strange emulsion of two different social outcasts who fall into one of two categories of social outcast:
1. They have impaired social skills due to poor voluntary behavior (they lack any social skills) or involuntarily lack social skills (autism)
2. People who are social outcasts but are relatively well adjusted. They just tend to be quieter or don't share the same interests with other well-adjusted peers.

Mixing the above is pretty amusing and probably leads to more drama than your average non-fanculture based house party.

That being said, I've not yet been to a "con party" but I've been to plenty of hotel parties and house parties. Some of them were put on by my circles of friends that tend to be more on the awkward side.

I say: Go for it and have a good time. Also be friendly and don't compensate your discomfort with fucking weird behavior.

I've never been to a con party before. In the past at cons it's only been random dudes who approach me out of the blue to tell me that they're having a party I always envision a room with a handful of dudes drinking who upon seeing me would just attack me like park pigeons on bread. I'm basing this assumption off my experiences with going to straight bars alone.

If a cute girl ever invited me to a con party I'd totally go though.

Best room parties I've even been too were filled with seagulls.

And by good, I mean: Decent selection of drinks, guy at the drink table who knows how to mix shit, music played at a reasonable volume, space to move around, and the room actually being cleared of all belongings before the hosts invite two dozen people into their hotel room.

That last part is especially important because the worst room party I went to was overly cramped and being run by these snotty girls who kept getting really testy about people being around their shit and walking into certain areas. They spent the entire party being anxious and pissy about people touching things or trying to find out who moved what thing. You're still not making any sort of valid argument. You're just saying "SHUT UP I CAN DO WHAT I WANT." No one ever said you weren't allowed to be a moron. Go jam yourself into a tiny room and try to have a rave in it if you want. Maybe next you can try to host a swing dance gathering in a broom closet.

Do you realize that you are trying to have a house party in a 300 square foot room designed for no more than 4 people? If you don't understand why this is stupid and think anyone saying it's dumb is a buzzkill then there's no point in talking with you.

Take a close look at >>6649961. What do you see people doing? Most of them are doing nothing, not even talking to each other. There's a couple people on the back apparently trying to dance or something but have to stand on top of a table to do it. One guy is standing on a chair just so he can have room to MOVE. This is choice.

So let me get this straight.

I make the argument: Some people actually enjoy the party, crowded room and all. They can and would leave if they didn't enjoy the party.

This is your response:
>You're still not making any sort of valid argument.
>You're just saying "SHUT UP I CAN DO WHAT I WANT."

Thing is, adults can do what they want. Even if it bothers you. Nobody is telling you that you can't have your opinion on what constitutes an "appropriate party atmosphere".

Maybe there isn't any point talking with me because you seem to have this very strange, egocentric impression that if *you* wouldn't enjoy the setting, the people that *are* enjoying it *shouldn't be*.

Stop being such a faggot. You literally reek of the bitterness of someone who doesn't get invited to parties.

>What do you see people doing?

Laughing, smiling, conversing, packing close together, maybe dancing (i can't tell), getting drunk, meeting like-minded people.

I think it's also interesting to note they are there of their own free will and seem to be having, in general, a good time.

Why does this concept bother you so much?

You understand this is a pathological way of viewing the world, right?

Best part is, when >>6651071 explains why he/she enjoyed the parties he/she attended, you invalidated her entire experience by reducing it to nothing more than "sentimentality".

My point isn't that more is better. My point is rooms packed with people can be fun for just as many reasons as small, exclusive parties with close friends.

This is something exclusively done by people at anime cons because they don't know how or where else to party. In your generic effort to seem cool by employing the LETS JAM PEOPLE IN AND RAISE THE ROOF mentality you're forgetting basic logic. A place that is the size of a person's bedroom is not an adequate place to try to host a house party in.

It almost makes me think too if the people who come to party even care about the con itself, which is kind of sad because there are people who want to enjoy it all and have fun, not be mocked by the dominating assholes.

At the last con I went to, everyone in my room was just there to drink and party, and they made fun of me for actually wanting to go to the on and getting distressed when nobody else wanted to leave the room to go to the event we were supposedly there for. I have only been to 1 convention that does things correctly.

-The entire hotel is booked for this convention in less than a day as soon as the room blocks open (along with the other 5 or 6 other hotels within a couple miles)

-The first and second floor rooms are reserved for those that want to put on parties. (includes an application and requires some sort of theme)

-The hotel just removes everything from these rooms. No beds, nothing in the way. No fuss.

-Local law enforcement makes rounds to ensure correct procedure is done for distribution of alcohol. (no underage b&)

and I wonder why this shit happens?
I mean.. I go to the cons to enjoy myself and I don't mind drinking, but when I got people who want who just go to drink, get high and make fun of people like me, it makes me uncomfortable.

I hate to bring this up, but it's like bullying, but to a new power: you go to these cons and mock the people and make people uncomfortable. Most of these people go to cons to escape this shit, not be confronted by it. Yeah, we know your the alpha male that keeps getting wins, but your winning against people who will NEVER be a match against you and you get to rub that shit on their faces all the time.

I pay money to go to the con, for the travel, the lodge and everything else and to have to be just uncomfortable and to see these guys get universally respected and parse, yet, can treat people like shit because they think they are Asperger kings who always spill spaghetti on the floor.

And notice the people defending their stance on parties are not addressing this, instead, they are addressing the guys who are like "Parties are bad, mm'k?" when in reality, this is the big issue here.

It's sad that despite the hate, at least people who cosplay and are in the Homestuck fandom right now are at least being welcoming and actually being supportive if it's fans for the most part. How sad is that?

It's fun for a time I guess, but after you get older the novelty of it wears off. I agree with what other people said, party with a smaller group of closer friends; it'll be more meaningful and fun, and most importantly, you won't have to deal with people's bullshit and drama.

I'm a pretty nice guy, and I've been called a white knight on this board many of times, but I'm not going to keep somebody with your outlook on life anywhere near or around my friends and I. Yeah. You were probably victimized at one point. And then again. And again. Each time the hole digging deeper. But after a while it stopped but you continued. Nobody is going to hold your fucking hand and invite you into things if you're a victim. Nobody wants to chill with that guy. Learn to let things go. Otherwise you'll always be that awkward motherfucker that's going to die alone. Instead of blaming other people for every single motherfucking failure in your life, take a good hard look in the mirror and figure out when you started victimizing yourself.

Once you've figured that out, and learn to just let things go, you'll be the life of the party in under a year. You don't think that even the "popular" seagulls had a hard time at some point in their lives too? They like the same shit as you dude. They get hounded on it just as much. I have a buddy that runs fun Call of Cthulu games and every time he's in town I try to throw a little impromptu game with booze and a few good friends. It's always a great time.

The only problem with RPing is that it's a little slow to start, especially if people are unfamiliar with the system. I think it would be a blast to find some chill new people, grab a few sixes of quality bear and play some Settlers of Catan or Dominion.

I understand that feel. Do you go to cons with friends? It can help to approach new people knowing that, if they turn out to be cruel, you still have a few buddies you can return to.

I wish people would do more to introduce one another. A few of the people I looked up to when I was a younger guy were awesome about doing that. Sometimes all it takes is a good introduction to get a conversation or new friendship started. Now I make it a point to introduce people whenever I can.

>I think it's a bit unhealthy that way, but I really don't know how else to do it.

Nah, but I'm a bit more of a lightweight than you. Two shots is going to start me off way too fast if I'm planning on drinking through the night.

>I guess if I looked a bit... a lot better my confidence would rise, and I'm actually doing something about that.

I'm not the best looking guy (I could post a pic if you want). I look about a decade younger than I am, my nose is crooked from getting punched in it too many times (I boxed), I'm overweight at a BMI of about 25 (down about 15 pounds in the last three months and moving).

But I could give a fuck. I'm going to die in 50 years or so. I might as well have as much of a good time (within reason, obv) between now and then.

Because a great majority of us have been hurt by the few that we've talked to randomly. It really is a luck of the draw of being able to find decent people at a con without someone else introducing them.
Sure, it may sound a bit pretentious, but at the same time it reduces a ton of anxiety between the new person and the group. Like you said, introductions go a long way not just as a name tag but also as a way of saying "this person has ties with this other person and they're not a random creeper that is going to gut you in the alley".
This goes double for a guy around a group mainly comprised of girls since it will at least set the precedence, hopefully, that he's not there for the sole purpose to hit on the girls but genuinely wants to chat due to overlapping interests.

All salient points. I can resonate with the hurt that can result from random interactions.

I suppose the point I was trying to make with the greentext quote wasn't that everyone is going to accept you. The point was that, I've found, among a group with a larger percentage of social outcasts, looks become less of a factor compared to other social circles.

Some drinks would also ease the awkwardness of a bunch of dudes pretending to be maids to please another dude pretending to be our master. I definitely don't mind bringing a bottle or two.

When I go to a con its for the con, not to make it just another themed party...

Maid, like any other RPG, is only as dirty as you make it.

Additionally, you'd be a colossal fucking idiot if you actually read through the Maid RPG book and took any of it seriously. There are no rules for sex and no rules for rape.

It's a perfect RPG for sitting around at 3am with a few drinks.

It's just that you guys need to actually be hush-hush in the room. Girls gone wild and people roaming outside your damn room is definitely going to get you caught. The ones that always got shut down were ones ran by photographers, so I advise never going to those. Just find people roaming around at night and follow them. Or just simply ask "where's the party at" with your cleavage and butt out.

Anyway, a lot of the shut down parties got converted to lobbycon or roaming the empty parts of the con, where people chilled out, still went crazy, and possibly got laid.

>> No.6654897

I got invited to one. When I got there, the room was basically a sardine can of people grinding against each other with a bunch of wubbing.

Shit, if I want to do that I'll go to the goddamn rave.
