So how do you guys prefer Davesprites do their arms and necks? I prefer the scales and claws, but a little iffy on neck feathers. Everyone does them so differently.

The white sprite group at Katsu looked very nice and cleanly-executed but dear god do I hate that Davesprite's wings. It looks like they didn't even research what actual wings look like or where they should be mounted (between the shoulderblades, not sprouting out of your neck.

Going away kind of from any other points the others have brought up, I think the thing that throws me off most is the size of the skirt's stripes. I understand that in canon they are very big and chunky, but it doesn't look quite distributed right carried over in real life? I think that this should be done, personally:

Take Anon's advice of adding some more panels in.
Cut each of the panels you have in half
Sew back in together, still alternating colors

I feel like this would better distribute the colors, and at the same time get the chunky color stripes idea going on. From what I can see on Jane's skirt in Canon, you can see 4 stripes at any given time, and right now I can see 2 stripe sections. So I figure cut them in half and resew so its half size, you can see 4-5 stripes, everything's all good.

I dunno, I kinda appreciate her honesty. She says she wanted to be one of the ultra fast cosplayers and that's what mattered to her--and I imagine she DID have a lot of fun being Obey Jane the day after the update. Sure, the quality of the costume is lacking, but she's not in it for that.

I mean, I wouldn't wear it, but not everyone cosplays for the same reasons and for once, she's honest about her priorities. Some people really are just doing it to have a good time and don't give a shit about looking pristine. That doesn't infringe on my own cosplay habits, so...I don't really give a shit. I was invited to a little homestuck meetup thing on short-notice (It's obviously much more casual dress-wise than cons), and I don't have enough time to get a wig or anything that would make it look even half-decent if I did a conventional character. Sorry I don't have a nicer picture (still waiting on my pictures from a shoot at ALA), but this is what the bottom of my dress looked like! My recommendation if you do try and go the cut-loop way is to use a fabric that doesn't fray a lot (my outer purple and pink are a spandex knit and the dark purple is a polyester suiting), and then seal the crap out of it with Fray Check. (You'll probably need a couple bottles, and be warned that it smells horrible after a while...)

DFW area has a pretty big Homestuck fanbase. If you're over 18, try to avoid the hastily put together meet-ups at random parks or malls or whatever as they tend to be filled with younger fans. There are some good, mature people around and I doubt you'll go desperate searching for someone to talk to, but basically for every one good person there's 4 shitmongers. There's also a few Facebook groups you could join if you're looking for people.

A-Kon is always really large, and AnimeFEST is certainly getting there. But they've tried (and pretty much succeeded) to keep Homestuck photoshoots as organized and efficient as possible with the large amounts of characters and people cosplaying. As for Q&A Homestuck cosplay panels and whatnot... eh, some of them are obviously based around a group of friends filling panel spots with their friends and it shows, but if people like going to them then it does no harm to me.

We basically have the same Hetalia type of fanbase here... younger kids were a little out of hand, etc, but there were some really great and talented cosplayers and fans. About half of our current Homestucks were once Hetalia fans, so they're pretty much the same.

Lots of drama between butthurt cosplayers or whatever tends to happen a lot in the DFW area though. Doesn't really happen during the cons, though-- more likely afterwards.

Holy shit man. I'm feeling probably what you guys feel all the time when working on your cosplays man. I've had a frustrating day and taking it out on sanding these horns and I feel amazing. And my horns are so smooth and shiny. Gosh I'm really glad I'm trying this shit out.

I really appreciate murtuna's psiioniic cosplay, it's improved a lot since the first time he made it. Seeing it in person, the craftsmanship was really clean and pleasing to look at.

Oh hello, that's actually me! I'm planning on redoing a few things, namely the shirt and also wings, since I started working on it right before the actual design for the Rogue class was revealed. If there's anything else that I should work on, I'm open for critique!

As for where I got my grommet kit, I got it at Home Depot for like $7, maybe? I personally think that they add a nice touch to the cosplay, and for the price, it was pretty alright! I hope that helps, and good luck with your own cosplay!

So I made these horns and not happy with how they turned out (color of them, not smooth enough for my liking). is it seriously a morale crime to sell em to some kid for like $15-$20 bucks? Of course if I were to, I'd put a finishing glaze and take off that cork.
They don't really care if colors are non canon and a bit lumpy, and I certainly don't mind making a little bit of dough off of my mistakes haha.
