How can you guys be this into this shit? Its the most uninspired costume designs I've ever seen. Most characters are almost literally just pallet swaps.

So I have a question in case anyone else in hsg has attempted it: EL wire in their homestuck cosplays. Has anyone tried it? Is it really worth it to try when its in a lit convention hall and not outside in pitch black?

Mostly asking because 1) I always thought it'd be cool to do a Mindfang jacket where the blue outlines are done in wire so it glows in the dark,/dark photo shoot, and 2) CrockerTier Jane I really wanted to try to do and I thought for a moment slowly pulsing lighted wires under the clothes where the circuitry would be a pain in the ass to do, but cool.

Honestly I think the Mindfang one would turn out better but I was just mostly mulling over these ideas while looking over the wire and how it works.

/cgl/ am I the only one who really is uncomfortable when Bard god tier costumes are worn in public with the codpiece intact? wear it for shoots, sure, wear it at home, sure, wear it at a con with the dong removable by some fuckin magnets, but somehow the idea of wearing a gigantic plush penis around a bunch of underage kids in public seems like it should get you on a sex offender list.

Hey there /cgl/! I'm the cosplayer in this photo. I also did God Tier Gamzee and Kurloz, on Saturday and Friday of Katsucon respectively. I'd love to know if you have any advice for me- I've already decided that, considering my codpiece is removable, I won't wear that unless it's for photos. Is there anything else it'd be a good idea for me to do?

Hey, it's the Tavros/Gamzee/Kurloz again! I really want to thank you guys for the input. With cutting the wig, I've already fucked up many a wig by trying to style it, and I'm not sure I want to risk it with this wig, but I did look up some tutorials on how to get the shaved look. Unfortunately, I got no real results. So if anyone knows any tutorials, would it be okay to ask for a link? Also, I did style it before, but apparently my hairspray didn't hold out and the wig kind of flopped a little.
Also, with my make up, thank you a lot! It's my first time really contouring, so hopefully I'll get better with some practice. And with the horns, I'm not sure I really want to remake them at this point, considering how long they took, but I know what you mean.
I hope that wasn't too defensive. Feel free to give me more advice on any of my other cosplays! I probably won't post again, just so I don't take up more room, but I'll be reading the posts.

What's a good fabric to use for an Eridan cape?

Okay, so something just crossed my dash about drama ensuing from someone taking costume commissions for Homestuck. The whole copyright thing confuses me though, because doesn't shooshstab take horn and minor prop commissions (Horns of Oglogoth, etc), so why is being commissioned for a costume such a bad thing?

Can anyone show me some quality caliborn cosplayers? I've never really seen any

most cosplayers can't run a sweatshop, but there WERE incidents of horns and stuff being mass-produced, and honestly the line between people making a bunch of scalemates from the same pattern and making them in a factory gets kind of blurry. i think the situation is pretty unfortunate for everyone involved, but it makes sense from a legal standpoint to issue a blanket policy.

i'm sure there are plenty of people doing commissions under the table, and the wp staff has better things to do than chase after them, but that's NOT what that girl was doing. she was being stupid (is still being stupid) by advertising and then straight-up lying when she got called out. just... don't be stupid, kids.

How do people usually feel about original designs for a cosplay (the outfit would be an original design not the character)?

I kind of wanted to design an elegant dress for a character from another series that doesn't have that many nice outfits.

I figured since the Homestuck fandom has a lot of alternate outfits and designs you would know best.

And to keep it on topic, is there a certain au that you absolutely despise seeing cosplayed?

has anyone ever had a problem with snazaroo being really dry (to the point that it's flaking off)? i recently got a tub, and by the time i finished putting it on (roughly half an hour) that's how it was for me; i ended up having to take it all off and just use ben nye instead.

I come to you looking for an honest critique of my Redglare costume that I wore at Katsucon this Saturday. I am the Redglare on the far right in this picture, and I'm always looking for ways to improve!

(Also, just as a note, it's not showing up well here, but the dragon cane eyes glow--they have red LEDS in them).

I like to hope that the folks at What Pumpkin know the difference between a freelance seamstress on Tumblr working on commission and a sweatshop in China when it comes to making Homestuck merchandise. Hell, it'd be just as great to see WP share some ideas for upcoming merchandise. From what I can tell, they seem content selling T-shirts and T-shirts alone.
