With the anime, I'm hoping there will be new cosplays. Maybe we'll get more popular again and be on Homestuck-level with constant cosplays with each episode or Birz comic? That's probably wishful thinking, though.

I'll answer my own question and say I'm still working on my Viking Norway (I'm the same one who's been in the threads, yes). I really want to get a new wig though, so that and the shield may be my improvements to that costume and my Norway overall.

The wig I have now is a platinum blonde monster. it's not very soft and sticks out in weird places and just isn't sleek... At the time I started cosplaying Norway I thought it was fine, but every time I wear it now I just feel like shit in it.

Which wig do you think would be good for Norway? I can trim wigs (I have a razor) and making the hair curl is no problem. I definitely want something sleek. The one I have now, like I said, is all over the place. I think the first might look best. You'd just need to trim it a lot.
Also, I don't think I'd really bother with his curl. Lots of people forget he has one, and it's actually floating around his head, not set in one particular spot, and has a little dot by it. It's a bit pointless and impossible to make correctly. I don't think you should bother making it. Like Koreas shouldn't bother making his curl.

I personally like the curl and find it necessary to distinguish him (plus it's so cute). Even though it's *supposed* to be floating I don't bother with that part, but Viking Norway is getting taken to a cosplay contest, so the curl is necessary.

But I've remade mine so many times I honestly don't mind remaking mine to fit my new wig color.

Hello Hetalia General, I have something I need an opinion on.
Next year for Katsucon, I was thinking about cosplaying Hungary, but since it's a nicer area and a lot of quality costumes pop up there, I wanted to do something a bit prettier than what she has in canon. The only nice outfit that I can think off is the cardverse design where she's in the green club dress. But would it be so bad if I were to do an original design? Like if a made something similar to a princess/ queen like dress? Or even something traditional like in the picture I attached. Or should I stick to what already exists in canon/ fanart that's already existing?

I know of the chess designs, however I don't particularly like Hungary's outfit.

I know some other cosplayers made some nicer outfits, like I remember a Seychelles who made their own children's day outfit after researching fashions from a certain time period.

I agree with the other. As long as you research, go for traditional, it's way more fun. Just remember to be at least moderately respectful about the clothes, though.
But yeah, I get where it comes from. Their uniforms aren't the most fun things to wear or look at. And they, especially the girls, are seen plenty of times wearing different things from them in the comics, so it should be totally fine. It's not like the shows like Naruto, where there's only one set outfit.

Maybe take the aesthetics of the card design and make it into more of a ballgown dress? Also, look at period dresses from the Austrian-Hungarian empire, those would be quite fitting for the character.

Non-canon outfits are always okay, I'd just say pick a time period and go with that. Though the traditional dress would offer you a lot of opportunities for embellishments. Fancy dresses do wow people, but sometimes it's costumes with a simple construction done REALLY well with the little touches--like her traditional dress--that can be just as awesome, if not better.

Have you tried googling other sites? A few years back I had some success with ebay for cosplays, but you could also commission one. If you have someone in your family who knows how to sew, the military uniforms are relatively easy. From what I've read, most people start with a pajama pant and shirt base pattern and you add the pockets and such to it.

If you do buy or even if you have it made, look for thicker cotton or twill. Broadcloth and quilting cotton are too thin, don't hold their shape, and wrinkle really badly.

I really wish that just once, I could see a nyo!England where the cosplayer actually bothers to make the outfit like a WW2 nurse outfit, like it's supposed to be.

I don't think there's really much to say. Unlike lots of other characters, her outfit isn't really a real one. It's just something somewhat based off a military outfit.
It would be interesting to see if you can change it a bit to make it more military-like(close the boob window, make the skirt longer, etc), but I wouldn't expect you to do it.
I'd say just go for it.

What hair colors do you guys tend to lean more towards?

Like it seems in recent art, the hair colors have changed a bit. Like for example, Hungary used to have brown hair, but now in more recent designs it's more of a light brown( sans the new anime). For France I've seen his hair both blonde and super light blonde.

Is there a certain color you prefer for the characters? I really want to cosplay a few of them, but I don't want to mess up on a wig color because I simply followed the hair color in a particular design.

To some degree, I understand 2P/2P femme, but what gets me is the "3P" and "4P" stuff. I just DON'T get how [what I'm presuming to be younger and newer] Hetalia fans, like you say, give so much attention and time to making fan versions/fan alt. universes for Hetalia when it's not like we don't have DOZENS of different versions and outfits for characters. It was the canon outfit, I even had a little Union flag pin stuck onto the dress. The outfit costume itself was pretty well made though I didn't have the little hat she wears at the time. Still though, it was overall really disappointing that a majority of them could go on and on about 2p but couldn't even recognise a canon design.

Figured it out. 2P fem is canon, what is NOT canon is the idea that this is their "dark side." It does look that way from the drawings, but I think what gives 2P the "too far" reputation is the inherent "evil nature" of 2P fem characters. Apparently that came from someone on Tumblr, no surprise there.

It also appears that at least some of the regular/male 2P is canon as well, but likewise seems to have been interpreted by fandom to be the "evil side" of the character.

Yes, 3P hetalia does exist, but looks to be like only in the mind of someone on Tumblr. There is fem 3P, too.

Looking at the character designs for 2P, I'm not sure WHERE I got the idea, but I had thought most of the 2P characters went from blonde to brunette. Idk why, since that doesn't look to be the case, but maybe I just associated that with the shitty 2P fem cosplayers who use their own brown hair instead of a wig.

Still can't say this is a bandwagon I'm going to jump on, I think we're reaching the "too many AUs" point within the fandom where it's a bit oversaturated and it's hard to keep up. I would LOVE to see the rest of the cast fleshed out in their fem versions (inked and colored) before we get any more AUs.

You've gotten shit mixed up.
Hima technically didn't say the 2Ps were dark or mean, he only labeled them 'recolors' and drew them. Though it's really obvious that's what he planned, as the least 'evil' looking one is at least very patronizing-looking.
2P fans on tumblr get offended at being told this, though, and go 'nO THATS NOT TRUE THEYRE OOOONLY RECOLORS' and treat the characters like little babies that cry and whatnot.
Also, male 2P is only canon for Germany, Japan, and Italy. The rest aren't canon, but this girl, beekwhy, created the allies. "Created". They were complete ripoffs of the nyotalia's 2P designs, with absolutely no creativity at all. They get more recognition than the canon designs, and people don't even know they aren't canon anymore.
3P and 4P were a thing over the summer, but it's died down by now. It's because people wanted to create shitty recolors for characters that already had recolors, without getting bitched at.

I'm not sure about the Spain because I never really talked with her or anything but the Romano is (was? idk if she ever changed because I never bothered keeping up with her) a huge cunt. About a year ago and all she did was complain on her tumblr about how she and her girlfriend weren't "popular enough" and did a whole bunch of suicide scares (I took them seriously at first and was worried but when you start to see them often enough you kinda stop worrying...). She would also fluctuate between saying how depressed her girlfriend made her and then how she didn't deserve her girlfriend. All she did on tumblr was start a bunch of drama and shit among the "popular" hetalia ask blogs.

tldr; FemRomano is a good cosplayer but has a shit personality. (not sure about the Spain though and like I said, she may become a better person but I am not sure though)

Definitely. I wore Viking Norway to a small winter con and for the first time in a long while, was actually cold at a con (but the layers warmed me up eventually, too much). All the winter cons back home still managed to have weather in the 70s (damn you Alabama winters!).

Not sure what materials you're going to use, but please get a longer pile fur. I think it looks weird the way the Norway Fantasia cosplayer made it.

Hey guys im thinking of cosplaying Taiwan for my next con and I'd really love some advice.

What kind of top does she wear and does anyone know where I could find a pattern? Also, is there any other props I could use besides a flag? Would an umbrella work?

I don't know what these are called, but maybe you can find something to work off of by calling it 'Qipao top' or something, even tho qipaos are the dresses. Though I'm sure the pattern will be easy, because it's just a pink top with long sleeves. If you're making it yourself, don't go cheap with the fabric, though.
Also, I don't understand how an umbrella would work at all. And I wouldn't really recommend a flag being carried everywhere. I know a lot of cosplayers do it, but it just feels like it would be obnoxious... Just go as you are, people should be able to recognize the clothes, the hairpieces, and the curl.

For flags, the best size is 2' x 3' ish or smaller. Most people have the large 3' x 5', myself included, and the reason it drags the ground is a) because people don't pay attention and b) because no one remembers the Pythagorean Theorem.

Standard flag poles sold at Wal Mart, Home Depot, and Lowes are 5' tall. If you have a flag that is 5' legnthwise, this means on the diagonal is 6'. So to ensure it DOESN'T drag the ground, you need a flag pole taller than 6' ft. They make collapsible ones you can buy online which are great for transport (especially if you fly and have to put it in a suitcase), OR I had a friend make me a tall flagpole out of a metal rod and a Christmas ornament for the ball finial. Probably less than $10 but it works!

So a word to all Hetalia cosplayers with 3 x 5 flags.... you can't just BUY a flagpole in the store to fit! These flagpoles are made for display on your porch or house, not to be held and used as a standing prop. You are GOING to have to custom make one or find one taller than 6 feet otherwise, your flag WILL drag the ground. Simple geometry.

I may be preaching to the choir on this one, but it bothers me so much!

Personally, I don't think so. It's different for characters like England or America, but characters like France and Germany look best without a wig, it make sit look more natural. Not to say weeaboos should let their greasy locks flow free, but see pic related. However, I really think you should cosplay a character you like. Maybe have a few you're considering and then narrow it down to what would look best, but Hetalia has so many characters, unless you truly have NO opinion as to which one(s) you like best, cosplay is always more enjoyable when you actually care about which person you're dressed up as. So if you don't care who it is, just be prepared to do some research on them. A big issue other cosplayers have is seeing people dress up as a character or series they a) know nothing about and b) don't care about
