I have some questions about being tall and being a lolita:
(about being 5'8" and taller)

>can I have some examples of underskirts used in coords before everyone defaults to "wear underskirt problem solved"

>underskirts don't look nice with sweet prints. should I just not buy sweet prints all together?

(VERY IMPORTANT)
>Custom orders mess up the torso lengths. (nicely done but my boobs aren't supposed to sit on my neck.. and thats where the dress puts the breast seams) what are good ways to avoid this?

>Brand sizing on tall girls. the waistline hits right under my boobs when I wear bodyline size M. will this happen with brand? what are some good brands for tall girls?

>socks stretch me out badly. OTKs are just knee highs on me. what's a good place to get tights (for tall girls?) other than welovecolors

>blouses. I can never fit into a long sleeve blouse. nothing fits me. I have long arms. american sizes come short on me too. where can I get blouses that fit me?

Sorry for the first post to be selfpost (and ive been selfposting a lot lately, sorry), but I need some advice.

I'm really not a fan of the LP headbow. It looks really dumb on my head, especially since I don't do OTT twintails etc.

On a scale of 1-10, how stupid does this look? I'm seriously thinking of getting a better, wired sax blue headbow, but i don't really want to without another opinion.

Sorry for the lack of make up.

If 10 is horrible, I go with 10.

It's not you but it's the hair. Big hair looks best for the headbow because of how it sits on the head. If it were sitting flat and not propped up with would be ok.
Though if you do your hair up it might look good. Otherwise I'd probably go with removing the bow and using another hair piece or accessory for the head.

Honestly, you look adorable with it, even with your hair down. It would be cute with your hair up, too, but I like it like this.

The main problem with people wearing giant bows is when their hair is thin and flat, but yours looks very thick and healthy, which balances it a bit.

I've seen underskirts look fine with them. Sadly, I don't have any examples. But a tip I can give you is to try and match the fabric. If the dress is made out of chiffon, get a chiffon underskirt. So on and so forth.

In addition, I believe Cadney is 5'9" and looks great. Chokelate is also pretty tall and looks good, too. Pic related, Cadney.

Do you wear tights? Just get some from target. Wool tights are fine, too.

Nicely styled hair (aka it looks neat and not a mess), makeup and it matches the rest of the outfit. Age is a factor too, and you look young enough to pull it off, it's when it's obvious you're older (hard to really define) then you should stick to more muted sweet style.

So I just got Bodylines L416 cutsew in pink, and all the lace is the same white except for the bottom row of lace on the chest. It's this beige color that just throws everything off. >underskirts don't look nice with sweet prints. should I just not buy sweet prints all together?
Some sweet border prints will look okay with a plain colour underskirt if the background is plain.

>Custom orders mess up the torso lengths. (nicely done but my boobs aren't supposed to sit on my neck.. and thats where the dress puts the breast seams) what are good ways to avoid this?
Instead of ordering online, go to a local seamstress and get items made - 50s and vintage items are pretty popular, so they should be able to create the correct silhouette and also accommodate your height.

>Brand sizing on tall girls. the waistline hits right under my boobs when I wear bodyline size M. will this happen with brand?
Yes. Brand and lolita in general is targeted mainly at a Japanese audience, where the average height is probably no more than 5' 2" for women.

>what are some good brands for tall girls?
Excentrique, Innocent World (although the torso isn't always very long, so you're probably better buying long skirts from them), Juliette et Justine (one of their models is 170cm tall and the dresses look fab on her), Victorian Maiden

>socks stretch me out badly. OTKs are just knee highs on me. what's a good place to get tights (for tall girls?) other than welovecolors
Like any high street store? Most tights come in tall/extra tall sizes these days and patterned and coloured tights are much more common as well.

There's a wee bit more volume on the sides of the hair in both these photos - having a least a teeny bit is key, whether that's having your own hair up in twintails or creating some volume with waves/back combing.

>>6605880
You're more curvy than most lolita dresses are built for, and you may have better luck with dresses that have full back shirring and waist shirring to emphasize the waist rather than back shirring alone. I don't say this much, but fully shirred dresses might actually look better on you since they can at least conform to your curves and show off your waist more.

I likewise have big titties -- almost exactly your measurements, actually. Lolita just wasn't built for girls like us. It flattens out your curves with the goal being to create a doll-like silhouette. As another girl said, some classic dresses will be more traditionally flattering -- giving you more of an hourglass -- but I think it might just be an issue of mentality. These dresses will make you look cute, not sexy. They'll give you a cupcake, not an hourglass.

I'm also not sure what your accessory situation is, but you might feel better if you have a complete look (headbow/shoes). Makes it feel more like a style than a dress with an odd silhouette.

It's not a shame at all; you look good. It's just an issue of mentality. Think about why the dresses appeal to you in the first place; what kind of silhouette do the models have? What kind of silhouette do other girls have? I think once you realize how much this is a part of the fashion, and not some defect particular to you ("this" being the fact that you look a bit more rectangular in the chest than you would in other clothes), hopefully the more comfortable you'll feel. It takes a lot of balls to wear all dese frills.

As far as blouses go sewing your own is a very easy project. Learning to sew is a very handy skill and if you can just get down a few simple techniques (the internet is full of tutorials on darting, ruffles, adding lace, etc) you can have wearable, fitting clothing. Don't be intimidated by the awful low-tier indie "seamstresses" that are abound in lolita - most of them are either shit at picking out patterns or shit at construction or both. Yes, I layer the classical puppets bell-shaped with the a-line underneath and it still looks bell-shaped overall.

>>6607130
Look at how it sits on their models, you want the dresses that look like they have slightly longer bodices. The skirt part is obviously not going to be as long on you, but given that most of those dresses are below-knee to tea-length on them they'll hopefully be just-above-knee on you which is acceptable. Look up iiralina, who I think is your height - she ends up making most of her clothes herself, but she does own some brand items that she looks fantastic in.

>>6606340
That's a bell shaped petticoat, it has more fullness at the top than a true A-line. It may well have deflated into a more A-line esque shape though.

Yeah, obviously if you don't like that dress then don't get it, but those are the features that you need to be looking for if you want to buy brand at all. If you're unable to find a good local seamstress or sew yourself, you're going to have to just hang out for the 1-2% of items that might work for your height, as the primary target market is about a foot shorter than you. Atelier Pierrot and Millefleurs sometimes make longer dresses as well, if you want to keep an eye on their websites. Pic not super related because it's Excentrique, but the length on that corset/skirt set might be good for you.

We srsly need an otome thread.

I think the dress is fine for otome. You do need to dress it up with the right clothing and accessories though. Perhaps a cardigan with a nice cutesy pattern or a lace edging and/or tights with a really cute pattern. Maybe both would be too busy though. Jewelry should probably be gold - pendant on a chain, charm bracelet, etc.

Though tbh I always forget jewelry too. I'm just starting to learn to coord myself.

>>6611561
This looks like it could be pretty versatile for otome since the color is fairly neutral so you could pair any color cardigan, tights, etc with it and it would work. Personally, probably dark red tights and brown lace up ankle boots and gold jewelry with garnet gems. I probably wouldn't wear a cardigan with this but maybe a vest (black with red/brown/peachy accents) or a jacket. A hat or simple headband with soft waves/curls.

That black dress doesn't look like you can fit a full enough petti under it, as well as it's quite long. You maybe could wear it for aristo but honestly, it looks very cheap and looks like it's based off a character rather than for lolita specifically. That hat is terrible, get rid of it. my advice is to not get bodyline.

get some 2nd hand AP/BABY on mbok. You'll spend about $70 for a JSK. And yes, a JSK is better than an OP-- it will be easier to coordinate and easier to either tone down or spice up.

Hat is gone. The dickie is removable but the black part isn't, I could get it tailored. Also I agree with the sleeves, I wanted to maybe find a jacket, but once again, black and white. And I know that won't work. I feels really maid to me, and I hate that too. I'm also extremely tall so the dress doesn't look that long on me, it's just at the knee.
So yeah, I'm just in pain over this dress. If I could sell it, I would, but then I would have to find someone stupider than me to buy it. Haha I'm laughing at my own humility. Well, live and learn. And I've definitely learned that I have shit taste and need to save for something beautiful. Take that money you would have spent and put it either into an account for saving, or put it away in a drawer somewhere safe, and save up for a dress you actually want and love. You're going to spend at least $50, if not more, so put that towards something you really like.

oh for pete's sake, why has no one told you that the one with light hair is wearing a wig yet? Decent wigs automagically have more volume horizontally.

The Dream Fantasy Headbow is too big for straight hair. You need fluffy volume or a wig for it. So either pull some of your hair up into little pigtails and like curl it to make your hair wider, or try clip in pigtails, or curling all your hair.

It's not a problem with you; those headbows are made to be worn with wigs. Google for images of Maki and Asuka (AP designers) and you will see that they almost always wear wigs with their headbows.

If you want to wear a headbow without a wig or teasing your hair into super-volume mode, you want it to be 2/3 that size, max.

Having a hard time deciding how to go about bidding on two dresses on auction right now. There's a considerable gap between the two in terms of minimum bid, though both are within my budget at what I would put as my maximums. The more "desirable" one is at a lower starting bid, which means I could possibly get a good deal on it if no one else is interested. Problem is, the more expensive one ends sooner, so I'm going back and forth on whether I should risk letting it renew or re-list at a lower price (the seller may not do either) and wait for the fancier one, or just go all out and put bids in on both.

I used to be really into replicas and liked the idea of owning them because of the cost and the sizing. But then I lost weight, fit into a good deal of back-shirred brand now. Got over the initial sticker shock of spending a few hundred on a dress. I have some bodyline dresses and I finally found the real versions of the replicas I owned. But I feel like I just can't go back to them. I see that Oojia is making a replica of so and so, but then I realize that "Oh, it's not going to look as nice, and I won't ever wear it. Why waste the money?" I want to buy a particular bodyline print, but realize I'd rather opt to wear my brand instead because of the price I paid for it.

I'm actually kind of indifferent. I own indie, taobao, and brand but coming from a couture sewing background and having worked in local fabric stores that have trunk shows for each seasons designer fabrics... none of the pieces I've worn could I ever consider worth the price that is asked for mass manufactured products with the materials they use. Granted, I've never owned replicas so i couldn't compare what I have with those, but nothing I own (brand wise) is worth the price and isn't leaps and bounds over my cheaper taobao or indie /shrug

Man though... working with actual high tier fashion, designer fabrics? wowowow, the store I used to work at would have a representative for Ungaro and Valentino come in once a season to take orders and there would be this huge catering party and people dropped thousands on just enough fabric for maybe two garments, was wild.... I forget the other designers we had... something with a C? Anyway, even feeling mid grade garment cottons (like Liberty of London) and you can see how much lower grade brand materials are /shrug. Not to mention construction, ugh. The owner of the store was an amazing tailor specializing in women's suit-ware, her work was amazing.

I've heard mixed things about them from people who needed extensive custom measurements (like if you need torso lengthened, large bust to waist gaps, things like that).

My personal experiences with them have been good but my custom measurements don't deviate much from their standard except to shorten skirt lengths and bodice lengths slightly since I have the opposite problem of being short and short torso'd- and the custom items I had fit quite well.

My wardrobe has some indie and handmade stuff in it, but I think I've been weak to the perceived value brands put on their print and named items by pricing. Now I'm trying to be more objective about what I buy, only dropping the big bucks on brand items with lots of detailing (I've also kind of gone off Angelic Pretty since finding out some of their stuff is made in China- if I'm going to pay lots for a dress with high labour hours I'd pick somewhere with a higher workshop wage).

I can understand that. I'd like to actually see some truly high fashion garments and really compare them. Though one thing I tend to really like about brand, and why I don't really mind paying the price is because I really enjoy the artwork on the prints I own. As an artist, I can appreciate that. Part of why I started seeking out the real versions of my replicas and got rid of them (not that it really helps the problem by reselling them, but whatevs).

Other than that, I do have a few indie pieces I really love, and get a lot of wear out of those too. But I don't think I can go back to wearing replicas again. Bodyline, maybe. Replicas, probably not, despite the temptation still being there. IDK.

Brand quality seems to be a very subjective thing - obviously some people feel that it's very worth it for the price and others don't, even when we had a thread rating/ranking brands in terms of quality results varied wildly because of the different parameters people used to determine what good quality was. Did you read the posts? I mean, obviously brand quality is not going to compare to some of the items produced at a higher price point, in the same way that a disposable paper gown is not produced to the same standards as a higher-priced wedding dress. It seems pointless to compare garments at different price points since they're aimed at different markets and when someone is willing to pay more, you can put more effort/time into it. If you compared a lolita brand dress to something of similar price - say, a Jesus Diamante dress, it probably comes out fairly favourably and is comparable to the other brand, but if you're going to compare it to couture then of course it'll look like a piece of shit. I don't agree with people rabbiting on about how brand="couture quality" - if someone says that, they're talking out their arses and have never seen haute couture or even a high end designer label garment, but in terms of its quality for the price level that it's at (i.e. value), I think it's favourably comparable to other items of similar price.

Me too. While I dont mind replicas, bodyline or anything like that, it seems like a waste when you compare it to brand. Especially when they stop being so cheap. If there was a good seamstress who could buy the oojia fabric and make good stuff it would be more desirable, but otherwise I rather just not get it.

My point was only against those people who speak about brand items as 'omg wtf creaming panties' awesome. I did not say they were crap, only that they are not as high quality as some people make them out to believe, simply for the fact that I have been around designer fabrics in the past. I have not read the posts, but sure I will take the time when I get to work. Even comparing to Liberty of London (mid-tier garment quality printed cottons) they don't measure up quite as well as I had hoped. I think you mistook my point for trying to compare lolita brand to high tier fashion, which I can understand was mis-communicated. I was simply stating that people who tout the quality of brand garment fabrics probably don't know exactly what high quality garments look like. I'll take a look at your posts in a bit, on the phone heh.

side-note I think people think that the price tag for brand is mostly for quality. When in fact it is the overhead for tea parties, marketing, employees, overseas stores, etc. All the things a business needs to use to grow and keep producing. I guess that was an indirect point: You're paying these prices to keep your favorite brands in business, not necessarily for some kind of outstanding quality materials and construction.

>> No.6616621

>>6616517
That's true, but at the same time the quality and construction are typical for the price point, so while people who think brand is great probably don't wear real high-end designer, at the same time, even if they didn't buy brand they would not be able to afford the real high-end stuff anyway. The clothing they would be able to afford, if they were not buying lolita, would be of similar quality and construction. Ergo, while no, they don't know real high quality is, it's not like they'd know or wear it anyway. Most people can't afford that.

Can anyone give me some names of Brands with prices that are less than/around $100? Pretty new to this so I always assumed prices went like Bodyline ->Replicas -> $300 brand

So far I've got Infanta and Kidsyoyo. Help?

>> No.6617658

>>6617648
only really popular dresses would cost you $300... If you go on egl you can easily get a jsk for around $150
also just look around at taobao shops

>> No.6617676

>>6617648

Just look around.
Some of not so popular pieces will go for very little on EGL, you don't have to get the all popular prints as there are also other nice things out there.
Also, the japanese 2ndhandshops like fururun, closet child, etc.
Auctions like Mbok, Yahoo! auctions.
Taobao has lots of shops beside Infanta (beware!!! runs small! usually by 5 to 8 cm) and Kidsyoyo.
Chess Story, Magic Tea Party, Dream of Lolita, 69th Department, Surface Spell, are just a few shops you should check out.

I think the reason that this person is asking is because they already looked around and found nothing. I have the same problem: everyone seems to get good search results except for me.

With second-hand brand, it's going to take research to understand the market and what items are or aren't going to be available in your price range. For instance, Innocent World can often be well-priced for items that appeared in lucky packs, although other pieces will command a higher price. Some non-print Angelic Pretty will go for cheap, but not all, while certain prints are a relatively good value compared to others, based on current trends. I recommend looking through past EGL sales comm posts and also browsing mbok & YahooJapan to get a feel for what might be available in your price range (for auctions, I like to bookmark and see what they ended at, since the price can shoot up if there's a last-minute bidding war). Building up a lolita wardrobe takes both time and money, and the less money you have, the more time it will take!

My issue with replicas is that they're a rip-off! $100 for a dress that isn't even decent quality or an original design? Fuck that! I can get something of really nice quality for half the price on taobao. This might seem harsh but I really think replicas are for noobs or print-of-the-month sheep in the vast majority of cases. What on earth is the appeal?

I mean i don't even give a stuff about the morality of it, they just seem to always be such nasty, cheap-looking dresses.

I didn't want to make a new thread, so.

This dress:

http://www.milanoo.com/Classic-Sque-Neck-Terry-Lolita-Jumper-Skirt-18080.html

It says under the pictures:
>[ Infanta Authorized ]

Does this mean it is from Infanta? And Milanoo didn't rip them off? Is Milanoo getting better or something? They even have videos of their stuff now, and some of it doesn't seem half bad.

I bought it and some other things, and I got a free petticoat. It was $20 shipping. I kind of feel like it was cheaper than Taobao because of the fees and shipping, TBH.

I got all this:
http://www.milanoo.com/Classic-Sque-Neck-Terry-Lolita-Jumper-Skirt-18080.html

http://www.milanoo.com/Classic-Whi-Voile-Womens-Lolita-Crinolette-p6552.html

For about $100 (that is including the $20 shipping), so I here's crossing my fingers that it turns out well. I couldn't turn it down because a free petticoat is a good deal and the shipping wasn't ridiculously expensive.

They had a pre-order for a pair of boots based on the open-front buckle boots AatP did. That was over a year and a half ago. Still no boots.

The VM replica boots are more popular, though. They've already done one run, so the next one shouldn't be too far away.

Hello, Seagulls!

I have a little brother and he absolutely loves lolita, but doesn't want to become what you would call a 'brolita' (guys in dresses). He is, however, interested in "boy style". Please post some inspiring pictures and advice. Links would be great, too. Many thanks in advance!
