Ofc it's not easy to run a convention, and she's being a cunt about a con she's attended at least twice before. She doesn't know for sure that it's the staff members making those rules or if they're part of the policies that the college itself has.

Cons are pretty easy, but not easy to do well. You have to get the proper sponsorships, a nice location and some decent guests. And even if you get those things, getting enough people to break even is tough, and it's even tougher to get enough together to support a second year.

Her criticism is really bold. Just talking about Toracon in particular, they do pretty well for being a small student-run anime convention.
She should get off her high horse and start a convention herself if she thinks she can do better. It could just be my bias but this girl was always kind of an asshole, she really has no ethos or respect to talk down like that.

My only issue with Tora-con is that I sent in my application for the Artists Alley a week before the deadline with overnight shipping, and they contacted me back about two weeks ago, saying that the reason I wasn't accepted was because it was sent three days after the deadline. I understand artists were selected by lottery this year, and I would have been perfectly fine with it had they simply told me that my application wasn't drawn.

That said, I don't really see the point in going this year if I can't sell anything. Toracon was my first convention, but I've been liking it less and less the past few years. It's been increasingly disorganized, and the panels hold no interest for me, anymore. I heard that the original group that started the convention up left or graduated or something, though, so that might be why things have changed like this. Or I'm just being a crabby bitch, whichever.

On topic; although I've never run a con or anything, I imagine it must be difficult to pull everything together successfully, and then a mix of disappointment and pride at the finished product due to the people that end up coming. At any rate, I really don't think I could ever run one.

All I can think of is the Stupid Spoiled Whore episode of South Park.

I support the no-smoking rules at cons. Before those became common, I dreaded going outside, because you'd have to walk through a cloud of smoke and stink the rest of the day. And I'd cover my face, because I have terrible asthma, but smokers always take that personally. Some smokers would actually blow smoke my way.

The thing is I go to this con and I have friends who go to this con. We smoke blunts outside in discrete places and nobody ever knows, same thing with smoking. Everyone is generally cool about it.
Fact is there's not a reason in hell why you should be barked at for smoking outside unless you're doing it around people who don't smoke, or are drawing a lot of negative attention to yourself (which has happened to people in the past).

If anyone were to organize an event well, I think it takes a more affirmative and positive attitude, and an organized mind. It pretty much all started about a year and a half ago during the first round of that Otaku House cosplay contest on facebook. Basically she photoshopped the shit out of her Yoko pic, and someone made a comment about how photoshopped it was. A bunch of people jumped on that person and whiteknighted Brittany. By then a 4chan thread had been made.

Brittany had left the original picture tagged publicly on her FB however, and someone then made this gif (>>6609692) and posted it to the Otaku page where people were arguing, and here. Most people backed off by then but Brittany insisted it still wasn't shooped, and later said it didn't count because she didn't edit it (lies). So when that didn't work she resorted to calling people names, and saying they were jealous. She blocked some people. She DQ'd the other photo and resubmitted pic related with the same poor shoop as before.

In the end her and her ex called everyone who disagreed a CUM DRIPPING FUCK SPONGE. She thinks because she has a Model Mayhem she's hot shit.
