I went to Katsucon's twice, the first year they had it, and then another time (maybe a year or two later? Don't remember). The first time was better than the second, because our waitress smiled a lot and was very bubbly. Plus she actually sat down and played a few games with us. The second year our waitress was pretty much non-existent and the food was way too overpriced/sucked, and the seats were uncomfortable and awkward.

Overall it would have been no different to just eat at the hotel's restaurant, which is why I wouldn't go again. And honestly, the poor waitresses ALWAYS look so unflattering in those ruffly cheap monstrosities Katsu supplies.

1) The girls are rarely even that cute, simply involving whatever girls happen to sign up
2) Entitled waitresses. Maid cafes are supposed to be about the customer, giving a feeling of open-ness and servitude. Instead, maids at cons feel it's all about THEM, using it as an excuse to attention whore, call certain customers "creepers", etc.
3) People in the west don't give a shit about maids. This is something guys in JAPAN have a fetish for. It's just mimicking what people in Japan are doing without regards to nobody over here really giving a shit.

the maid cafe for a small local con had totally cute maids with outfits from bodyline. all in different pastel colors. It looked adorable and I really wanted to participate in the next maid cafe.

so, I go and spend $60 on a maid costume. get an adorable pink one. talk about looking forward to this event for months.
but oho! it seems like they aren't accepting maids with differen't colored maid uniforms anymore. if you aren't dressed in a black x white maid cafe coord you are not allowed to participate!

all of my rage. the volunteers only get discounted a measly $10 for working there too. so all maids that worked there previously had to go out and buy new maid dresses, which cost more than entry to the con itself. which is $35 for the weekend.

Yuka and Bekah worked with us that con and did really well. It was surprising to see how well they adapted. At the same time, the group in question (as pictured) isn't quite a "Maid Cafe" as per what this thread is talking about, but more of a "Maid Club". Most cons that the group goes to don't allow us to sell food unless every single maid has a food license.

I've been to quite a few maid cafes and maid club both at conventions and then real ones, so I can definitely attest that it's all about personal taste, but I suppose I'll have to agree with half this thread that a lot of girls who try and work the convention based ones have issues sticking with the standard "kawaii uguu" stereotype. It's not cute. Just annoying as hell and makes you look awkward and unappealing to those you're trying to entertain.

imo Neko Neko has prettier girls but Kira Kira has better conversational companions.
