Love danbo, may I make a suggestion if I can?

If you have time redo the head. Just find a longer and wider box if you can, every reference image i've found (I collect them, plan on doing one when I get the chance) shows the head going well past the shoulders, and just about as tall as the body.

This will help you create that supper sickly sweet chibi look.

Anyway, speed build day three. Chest is attached together , and now I can see where I need to do more shaping for the pec region. This is why I soft molded the armor, allows me to see it on me and mold after the fact.

Collar area still needs buckles for attachment.

Not sure if I want to redo the collar area or not, might if I have more time.

Thighs are cut shaped and dremeled, but have no strapping yet.

So far, I will probably redo the chest after this weekend. I wasn't looking at any reference material when I cut this out, just going off of combination of ME 1,2,3 in my mind.

Either way, I have tonight and tomorrow night to get the thing finished in time for Friday.

I imagine tomorrow night will be a whirlwind of plasti-dip, dremel dust and shattered dreams. Luckily I have bourbon to aid in all things shattered dream related.

>> No.6557035 [DELETED]

I'll debate on that. I'm just sad that Danbo might not last the weekend, because Ohio has decided it wants to be rainy.

>>6557014
That's my ultimate goal. I realized once i had the arms and the torso done that my head was no longer the proper proportions, so hopefully I'll find a better box one day.
Your armor looks like it's got a good start to it though! What are your plans for painting it?

lol fair enough, I know how that goes. Draw something up, looks perfect, attach another piece, perfect, throw it all together, wtf just happened....

I'll be painting it just black white and red for now. I might change it afterwards depending how I feel. Least I'll have plastidip as the base anyway.

After this weekend I might end up repainting it Dragoon colors due to my ME character. Light purple, blue, grey and a big ass sniper rifle.

working on Morrigan from Darkstalkers. This is the first pair of wings that I've made. I was considering keeping them soft and just having a loop connected to the apex and then putting that around my arm.

I like the look of the wings with a hard internal support structure, but the convention it's for has very crowded hallways and I'd rather keep them all fabric than worry when I get bumped into. Is this cool or am I going to get rammed for floppy wings?

Second off, half the group will probably bitch that their floppy the other half will bitch cause they could poke someones eye out. Stick to one side and and build it the best you can. OK so DAY 5 update! Speedbuild now at 70% completion. Shins are cut out but not formed, all other major pieces are cut formed glued and put together. Still minor things needing to be done.

Need to heat shape the chest.
Need to cut and glue spinal detail.
Build Shins
Paint
Apply EL Wire (will be coming in tomorrow)

I have tonight to finish all building and painting. As tomorrow the con starts, so I will be getting home probably around Saturday morning to crash a few hours, install the EL wire, shower and wear this thing out Saturday itself.

Once the con is over, will be rebuilding the chest, for arms and adding finishing details to everything else. Alot of details are missing, but that is because there are just somethings that if I did half ass I would have to rebuild that part entirely, so I'd rather just leave them off for the moment and add them on later instead. I'm not entering a costume contest with this thing. Just a speed build so me and my GF can go as Paragon/Renegade Shepard.

There really wasn't much "technique" involved, honestly. Just wrapped tape around it, crunching and twisting it as I went along. I made sure to go over some areas a lot more to build up knots in the wood and took care to taper it between the knots and joints, but that's really all there is to it. After that, I used a nice textured spray paint, then mixed up some various shades of brown to splotch all over it, giving it a mottled look.
Once that was done, I took a balled up paper towel and white paint and dabbed all over where I would be holding it to make it look like frost, then I drew some frost "veins" with a white marker and added some highlights with a silver one, gave it a clear coat matte finish, then wrapped the EL wire around it.

I like Kamui's progress, She documents her progress well. I just wish she would stop it with the "DO YOU HAVE A WEBSITE" or "U AM BESTEST" samefaging. It sort of ruins the illusion she is a down to earth person.

Been working on my Mari wig. I'm not sure I can accomplish what I would like with out wefts but hoping I can. I am going to re work the pig tails tomorrow once I've had some sleep. Definately need to cover that bald spot on the side.

I figure before I try to work more with the pigtail I need to trim them. Their so much longer than they need to be and it's just becoming a pain trying to keep them from going out of form while tightening them. I'll leave an 3 inch excess before final trimmings. Maybe get the bangs and sideburns trimmed up as well.

Meanwhile, months later, Dr. Princess progresses. I'm really lazy about knitting, but I should have this done soon. I just have the top of the body and the sleeves left to knit, I'm really excited to have knit my first sweater.

I picked up really ideally shaped glasses and shoes at the thrift store today for this costume, I'll have to do some work on the glasses but I think it's a good starting shape.

So, it turns out fiberglass makes everything look horrifying.

I've already put another layer of resin on the outside after this inside layer of fiberglass cured. I'll probably put another layer or two on the outside before I sand the inside down nice and smooth.

>> No.6575665

>>6574881
Nah, you're just bad at it.

I kid, I kid. Really good fiberglassing takes TONS of skill. The best guy I ever saw at it was this guy, who if I remember correctly is some kind of norweigian engineer. seriously.
http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/621bevbor-s-armor/page10'
http://flickriver.com/photos/bevbor/tagfiberglass/

On the other hand, if it's on the inside, who cares what it looks like? I usually just snip out a ton of 1.5X1.5" patches, spray-adhesive- like super 77- the inside of my parts if it's pepakura, then stick them everywhere and brush resin over it. Makes it much easier.

>> No.6575749

>>6575665

Hahaha I was just referring to the fact that it looks like something out of silent hill.
But it definitely was NOT easy. It wouldn't want to stick in some places so I'd secure those and then it'd shift while I applied more resin... Needless to say I was almost ragequitting.
Since it's the inside of the mask, it doesn't really matter though.

More glacial progress on a Jonathan Joestar handkerchief. I'm REALLY bad and INSANELY slow at hand sewing and proper hemming, and I'm super rusty on embroidery, so I'm using Jonathan's handkerchief as an excuse to get my skills in shape, fast. I think the next time I have a small gap in my schedule I may do another outfit with a lot of small things that I avoid because I'm not very good at them; I think the next time I have a lot of hand-hemming on a costume I'll be a lot faster because of this (still-not-finished) mess.

Oh, no, they'd be far too large for our CNC mill. You could probably do it with a large unit by making two halves then gluing them together but the one I have access too is maybe two feet on the long side. I just meant I'll need it for cutting the detail on the tsuba.

I think it'd look a lot better if you bit the time bullet and hemmed the bottom with a well-ironed blind hem. The puckering bottom hem could be thread tension or it could be the results of two different weights of fabric, but either way it's dragging the rest of the dress quality down.

almost done tutorial for easy bulking/lengthening/layering a lacefront wig with track extensions.

pile of hair beside the wig is whats left to go in, turning them one in and one out as I get to the top for more auburn highlights. wig started off decently thick but I really needed huge volume in order for the headpiece to not look silly.

once the rest of the hair is in I'm going to give it an all-over shaping and trim and then I'm doneee

Just finished adding the velcro to the straps for my Raenef cosplay (Demon Diary)

Going to debut at Katsucon

Super excited...it's the first garment I've ever actually made, so it's not perfect...I accidentally made the lining smaller than the outer so it hangs a little wonky...but that's okay.

I wasn't going to post about this again, but I finished and I am so much happier with the wig overall! it has huge amounts of volume on all sides and is the exact shape I needed.

tl;dr I bought this wig with points from a store saved up over the years thinking it would be my dream wig for the character and was really disappointed when it arrived. the top was very sparse and there was only enough hair to look alright if I pulled it all the way forward to the front.

fixing it to dream status was only $12 in buy one get two free packages of weave, so I'm glad in the end my points weren't wasted and I got to watch The Raid: Redemption twice. I almost cried when I tried it on and it was terrible because another wig wasn't in my cosplay budget but it's all good now.

Sorry! I totally missed this post earlier!
Patterns, right! I drafted my own pattern for the cape, since I assumed that would be easy. It ended up being far too long, and then too bulky and then too big in the shoulders and had to be adjusted so many times.
For the shirt, I started with McCall's 4952, which is actually a pirate costume. I had to make some modifications, like getting rid of the collar, adjusting the cuffs, took it in a bit in the body, narrowed the shoulders so they weren't so puffy, and added a few adornments of my own, like the top stitching and adjusted the v and the neck-hole to fit me a little closer than the very billowy pattern called for.
I hope that is of some help.

otherwise its going great! i really love the boots

I was! Got into a major time crunch so I couldn't finish my swords and myon for Ohayo, but I'm getting them done now for Shutocon or ACen or something.

But I can't exactly adhere bias tape to the bottom of the boot. I was planning on using it for the top of the boot though.

Don't worry about putting it on the bottom, probably. It'd just get worn off in a hurry anyways.

Stage 1 of plan "make something Stargate for ECCC so I don't look like a fool in front of Michael Shanks and Paul McGillion" is completed. Now to wait for my flight suit to get to me. The wait is brutal.

Question for those of you who do military reenactment- should I bother with any tac at all? It's kinda 50/50 on whether or not Daedalus/F-302 pilots go armed while planetside, and I don't know ECCC's prop policies, so I'm starting to give thought to just going without.

I'm super super new to prop making [as in I have never tried before]
But well here's a Cinque mace in the works.
Apparently I should plastidip so I can spray paint it gold because I know spray paint eats away at foam like alien blood on human flesh.

Be gentle
