a little weebish. it's a shame, really. nothing too bad though, just the normal bad cosplayers, occasional buckets at meetups, etc.

I usually bail on meetups at cons these days, but from what I can remember of last year, at a con in the northern part of the state, everyone was really sweet and mature, minus one gamzee cosplayers that kept begging people for body paint and kept honking a horn.

In the central part of the state at the biggest con we have? A clusterfuck. Buckets, weebs, people running around. An Eridan had a bucket thrown at them. Poor thing.

I feel like the number of horrible homestuck cosplayers has gone down? Is it just me or is this correct to some degree? If anybody has some terrible RECENT homestuck cosplay, show me? (I am more interested in trolls than humans, unless the human cosplayers are just too outrageous not to post.)

I've wanted to go to some gatherings and meet people in SoCal but I get worried I'm too old to be around some of the cosplayers. I haven't actively searched the SoCal Homestucks but the few I've met at cons have been pretty nice. My local Homestuck community is pretty small, geek culture ain't a big deal where I live. Whenever we host meetups the same 5~10 people tend to show up, and we're pretty friendly and personal with each other because of that. If it's a lucky day, though, maybe like 20~30 people will show up.

We're not bad overall, the people who help host them (usually me and a friend of mine) keep the younger fans in line. Plus, we don't have many serious cosplayers here, so it's not like we tend to get bodypaint on anything.

I'm another sflstuck. It's really...Alright, though I wish Miami wasn't as full of stuckaboos. There's very little drama
outside of the "high society" groups and like one or two cliques. As far as age goes, basically with sflstuck, the chill people are the 18+ crowd.

I'm not really a congoer but in south FL we have a pretty good group of people for a monthly meetup. A few of the younger ones are a little annoying but there are only 16 of us and the majority is old enough to drive so it's not too much trouble.

AZstuck here. The Phoenix/Tempe kids get really catty and Tucson tends to have more of the middle school typical whiny gross bad cosplayers but we also have some great artists here. At almost every con, though, the meets tend to get gross and go to spin the bottle and stuff. The young ones are just REALLY eager and it's a good way for the older ones to find out who not to interact with.

I remember at PCC there was a Gamzee with a horn in the main area that would not shut up, every 2 seconds, for HOURS.

Downeaststuck(aka Maine) is pretty okay. There hasn't been a meetup since the summer since it's hard to plan one up here. Central Floridastuck here. In my experience people are awful to the point where a whole lot of us don't even really like going to cons anymore. And too many meetups. Way too many meetups all at Downtown disney and if my general group and I go we tend to avoid the way to loud crowd. A lot of us leave the state and go up to northern cons now.

I'm part of SoCal and NorCal, primarily Sac/SF because that's approximately where I'm at school/working eleven months of the year. The HS fans I've met at SacAnime seem a bit weebish (though that may also be the nature of the convention), but the quieter ones that I ended up hanging around were alright and mature enough. At the drawmeet, one out of a dozen people present was requesting EriSol yaois. I was also at Wondercon in 2010 and 2011, but the HS presence was tiny as a prepubescent dick so only five people cottoned onto my Jade.

I went to the very first two Pasadena HS meets, six months apart - the first one had <50 people, the second one had over a hundred. AX in 2012 was terrifying and daunting but a little exhilarating? It's nice to round the hallway corner into a side room and run right into an impromptu HS hangout. I met three new people sitting to the side who were alright, and after we swapped Tumblrs, I found that two of them were mad talented artists/cosplayers.

Porrim doesn't quite have the face I'd imagine a Maryam to have, but her cosplay seems executed alright -- I like the volume on her wig, her makeup application (especially that shade of lipstick), her buttons, and the way that ribbon looks. If she tackled a Leijon or Peixes, that'd be neat to see.

Chicagostuck is great. We only have a few weeaboos, and they aren't even that bad. There's barely any drama and most of the cosplayers are pretty good. There's a lot of meetups too.

my local community is about 100 people, about 40 active. The age spread is about 12-22, with one or two older people. They're all really postive, fun people, but there are one or two annoying weeb types.
The cosplayers are divided evenly between terrible and decent to great.
There are a lot of really enthusiastic first-time cosplayers that i am trying to guide into having actual decent cosplays, but it's hard.

the chicagostuck comm is really great for the most part. since it's such a big comm, there's your usual proportion of weebs and drama-causers, but things are usually kept sane.
meetups are really fun and there's always a lot of stuff to choose from for people who are closer to downtown or way out in the satellite cities, and stuff is usually well-run: our winter formal dance had ~200 people and went really smoothly thanks to the awesome staff.

last year at ACEN there was a huge homestuck presence, i'm almost scared to see what it's going to be like this year!

I feel like the SoCal community is a lot easier to deal with when we're not all grouped together at one big convention like AX. There's always general craziness, and the spin the bottle bullshit, but it's quite manageable and pretty fun to just get together and hang out for an afternoon.
The only issue I have with it now, is that our community is so huge that there are literally meetups every weekend during every month, and sometimes for the same exact event. It would be much more efficient to just round all those meet ups in the same areas together and make one giant massive event, but everyone is so obsessed with being ~*the leader*~ and ~*the one in charge*~, that I know something like that is never going to happen. We even had one girl bitch and moan about a gathering we were organizing being on the same day as her gathering, even though we would be on opposite sides of the county.

IMO Orange County seems kind of like it's full of teenagers and people that perpetually act like them, whereas LA you get the party crowd... which is different, but not much better. OC Homestuck's new organizers are sweethearts and learning the ropes, and there are a few more independent organizers cropping up here and there.

The Halloween meetup in Griffifth Park was fun, and there are probably some things planned for Valentines Day; it also looks like there's another Promstuck planned at the beginning of March in Griffifth Park.

Calgarystuck - or just Albertastuck in general - is literally the worst thing ever. It's filled with a bunch of obnoxious 12-15 year olds who insist on coming to meetups in outdoor public places in full cosplay, and they yell and draw attention to themselves. In one situation there was a photoshoot for any sort of cosplay at the University and a few of the people who showed up ran around screaming and singing inside of the buildings where students were studying. I used to enjoy Houstonstuck but the community was disorganized as fuck at first and was a mating ground for horny teenagers and now it's just for whoever can make the most unique cosplays, many of which are shittier. Okay, so I made some horns out of Model Magic like a week ago, and they're refusing to dry. I don't know if it's because my room is kind of damp (yay student housing), but they go kinda... slimy. I've tried drying them with my hairdryer, but they just won't set. Should I start over with model magic around a tinfoil base, or is there some way to dry these obstinate bitches?

When I dry them, especially with moisture in the air, I usually use a plastic container to help control the air flow. The blech thing with model magic is it dries so slow and with controlling the air flow, you have to wait a couple weeks for them to solidify. You might want to try another set with the tin foil and that method or continue with the ones you have using that method. Maybe try both and see which dries faster for you.

I've gotten to the point where I usually keep them in a container with a dehumidifier (but that's because I make about 10 sets at a time).

It usually sucks the moisture out of the air around you to help with breathing or allergies or when you're ill.

Sure! I usually get the plastic container that it comes in but I've used plastic Tupperware as well. You set the horns inside on some tin foil or wax paper and crack the lid just a hair open, it controls the air flow inside. By controlling air flow, you're slowing the process down so the model magic can slowly dry from the inside out offering a more solid base. It usually shrinks just a bit in on itself when it dries and when it does it too fast it has a tendency to crack.

I'm afraid I haven't worked in really damp areas with a lot of humidity (since I'm in the desert of SoCal) but I hope that helps out a little bit.

We have a bunch where I'm from, but a couple weeks ago my friends went to a meetup in a mall/skating rink and not only did the dude running it not give a "don't touch people without asking" disclaimer at the beginning of the photoshoot (which ended up making more than a few people pissed off when creeps would try to grab onto their asses and whatever), but afterwards they decided to yell and scream obscenities in a public food court where there were families passing through. In general, you're more of less correct. Ameristucks overall seem a lot worse. I think there are definitely some CAstucks who are just a horrible (look at the ringleaders in edmonton/albertastuck), but overall there's a lot fewer of them so it's much more bearable.

Phillystuck is fantastic! I've been going to meets for nearly two years now, and we've got a really good bunch. Our last couple of meets have started to get bigger (Halloweenstuck 2012 was HUGE, and I know a few people were unhappy with how large and disorganized it was), but for the most part we're a pretty chill and welcoming group.

We don't have any real leader; we plan most of our meets by voting over them on the FB page. I believe the next one is going to be the weekend of March 2nd or 3rd? Usually our meets are in Rittenhouse Square; in the city and easy to get to, but a big enough park that we have space to spread out.

I've only been to one meetup outside of cons (a central njstuck one) but it was actually really nice! It was well-organized and not overly large, set in a huge park where there was only a small party a few picnic tables away from us. Everyone was well-behaved and kept to our area, but it's good to know that even if there had been obnoxious weebs there then there would have been minimal people to irritate/property to smear grey on/etc. We got to run around playing games in a big field and eventually took a hike around the park and found a little river and pond and it was so hot everyone ended up hanging out in the water.

Overall central njstuck was a 10/10, would totally go again if I ever got the chance.
