Okuyasu's outfit is really baggy, though. So long as you have a reasonably slim waist and aren't completely skeletal, you could pull it off. Hell, a lot of Part IV's characters are like that.

I'm going to add some extra hair up front to make a widows peak, and then draw it across the top, so this SHOULD take care of covering up exposed wefts around the top. Plus the hair ornaments will help hide stuff.

Maybe for one of the Hermes anons, but I'm an Annasui anon. My problem is how to get those sleeves connected to the tank top (I'm doing female Annasui) and not have them look like a saggy mess when I cut the diamond/grid pattern in. Other than using latex and letting my arm bulge through the holes when I move, I'm not sure how to get the pattern right while keeping it tight to my arms. It worked all fine on my pants, but not the sleeves...

Spandex really isn't that hard to sew. The issue I think that always comes up is that CHEAP spandex is really annoying to sew (and I'm talking like that vaguely shiny dancewear spandex that joanns stocks,) but higher quality stuff sews like a dream.

The cheap stuff always seems to pull and pucker, but the better stuff doesn't really do it as bad - for example, one of my in-progress gloves for lucy. It's the metallix spandex you can get from spandexworld, the edge is serged (though not super neccessary,) turned under, and top stitched with a stretch stitch.

You just have to make sure you don't pull the fabric too much and just let the feed dogs move it for you. But the better stuff is really easy to sew :3

Does anyone have any tips on making Gyro's hat? It seems like all I need is a good quality pleather or vinyl so the holes wont fray, with a sturdy interfacing inside to hold it up.

On a related topic, I am about to order material for his shirt, I can either get a really nice broadcloth (I'll be doing purple) or I could order some shiny swimwear and make it really form fitting. Any thoughts?

Another thing you want to look into is stretch applique - there's a really good tutorial that is easy to find, but I can't link it on 4chan. Basically though, you get a tear away, iron-on stabilizer and sandwich your stretch material in between two pieces. Then top stitch it in place, tear away the stabilizer, and voila! neat applique

Found the most fabulous liquid vinyl for F.F., really pleased. Was expecting not being able to find something that had a shine to it where I live without it being really flimsy or overly cheap looking, but this vinyl is just thick enough, has a lovely amount of stretch, and looks solid and matte while being shiny in all the right ways... I wish I could describe it better for you guys but it's a brilliant fabric for Jojo.

Hopefully will have some progress to show once I get my pattern done!

The Diego cosplay I'm working on for Anime Boston is coming along slowly but surely - I even found some rubber dinosaur hands for Scary Monster poses. But the jodhpurs are still giving me trouble, though - does anyone have any ideas for places where I could find those puffy old-school jodhpurs, or a good pattern with which I could make a pair?

I had to pattern mine myself (they were for a Duo Maxwell cosplay) but they're honestly not that hard. Take a pattern for close fit slacks with a high waist, redraw it out to incorporate the poof, make sure to account for the ease where it slopes at the knee, and bam. Done.

Off the topic of slash, does anybody know a non-toxic way to get GO!GO! ZEPPELI! on some grillz without causing massive amounts of toxicity? I know someone who etched it in on a pair of cheap grillz and ended up giving herself mild poisoning, and especially since the letters are raised, while I can figure out about five ways to put the letters on there, I can't figure out a single safe way to paint something that goes in your mouth gold (or maybe silver) without giving the wearer some sort of poisoning-by-Gyro-cosplay thanks to using unsafe paints. I've been thinking of everything from buying cheap grillz and putting on the writing with puffy paint to using some of the thermoplastic "retainer" methods from Homestuck teeth tutorials.

Any suggestions? I really don't want to have to forego GO! GO! ZEPPELI! or pay $300 or some bullshit for custom grillz off some ghetto website, but my Gyro's health is more important than the grillz (no matter what he tells me).

What my buddy is going to do is take the super poor man's exit. He is going to just make a simple dental mold of his top and bottom teeth. cut out little letters the size of each individual tooth, and then cover the mold and lettering with Rolo's wrappers and moving the finished product on to his "Grizzizle"

You're lucky there, there's plenty of online spandex vendors that have white on blue stars now if you can't find it in person. Just remember, Johnny's shoes never have stars on them, so either paint your shoes to match or use a portion of the fabric with fewer/no stars to cover your shoes. also fuck yeah america color scheme.

I'm trying to decide on fabrics for the blue and orange, and maybe 4chan can help me. I'm trying to pick between dark blue vinyl exterior and matte orange interior, dark blue matte spandex with metallic orange interior, or dark blue vinyl with metallic orange. (So shiny/dull, dull/shiny, or shiny type A/shiny type B.) It's getting a matte white lining on the top part regardless, but.... how shiny is TOO MUCH shiny for the top and pants? This outfit by its very nature is not going to be worn with other JoJo cosplayers around me (in fact the more normal-looking the setting the better), and it's a rather odd variant, so I'm going to want it to stand out as "Hey, that's JoJo!" (hoping the green lipstick helps) but I also don't want to go full RuPaul's Drag Race and look ridiculous. It also HAS to be vinyl or spandex because cutouts.

In b4 looking ridiculous anyway, since I know this design isn't really meant for someone who looks like me. I just want to be Yoshikage Kira (I REALLYREALLYREALLYREALLYREALLY want to be Yoshikage Kira) and this is a far better choice for me than the standard suit Kira.

There's not too much orange showing, so I don't think going shiny/shiny would end up being too badly RuPaul dragrace-y. That said, if you really don't want to go that route, I'd say go dull/shiny, that way you get the shiny flashes of orange in the matte blue.

I had ordered leggings for Johnny but two pairs so I can make the headscarf and bracers from the same star fabric. Sadly I've only gotten one set in the mail today so I will have to complain. The leggings look really good though. I've taken a quick photo, my shirt is still in pieces that need to be sewn together so I've just put on a similar shirt.

Hey Jobros! I've been having quite a bit of trouble trying to find a decent Vanilla Ice wig.
I've always been a fan of the white/lavender hue that he has, but it seems to be impossible to replicate in a wig.
Thoughts on this one?

I think dyeing the color onto a white wig would be a good option, that way you can get a really subtle tone without it being too strong.

I don't really like that one much. Too lavender not enough white IMO, and if it's Lucaille the fibers are going to be waaaaay matte. Like, overly matte.

Dyeing a wig that long might be a problem too... I've basically sworn off trying to dye wigs light purple after having every possible disaster with purple dye and my Vinegar Doppio wig. (DID YOU KNOW THAT PURPLE SHARPIE PIGMENT WILL TURN HOT FUCKING PINK IN THE SUN?) I've tried literally every cosplayer method known to man and only two will work over a white/silver wig to turn it light purple without horrifying results, RIT or acrylic ink (and even then, acrylic ink may also fade horribly depending on the brand.) If you choose to dye a wig Vanilla Ice color, cut off a tiny strand where it won't be shown, dye it, and leave it in the sun for two days. If it's horrifyingly hot pink or has gone entirely white, do not use this method. I swear to Steel Ball Jesus that I have your best interests in heart here.

Wow, really? I had a light lavender wig that I dyed darker purple first with RIT and then with Sharpie when it didn't get dark enough, and I never had the ink change on me! Then again I didn't wear the wig in the sun too much, only maybe a couple hours tops and it might not have been on noticeable over lavender..

How married are you to purple? I've got an arda color ring (lol) and I'm poking at it, and while their lightest purple isn't super duper light, the periwinkle (072B) color might be pretty close - its more or a warm blue edging to purple.

I used it on my Mariah, pic related, though the red cloak makes it look SUPER blue.

They've got a powder blue too, which is a smidge paler but also a super cool blue. So I dunno

Yeah, unfortunately I've had horrible experiences with purple dye. I kind of hate to self-post in this thread but here's an older picture of my Doppio wig after being worn for about five hours in the sun and being dyed ONLY with Sharpies. It was already starting to break down that day as you can see by my hairline; by the time I pulled it out a few months later after storing it in the shade, hoping to wear it for my next event, significant portions had gone entirely back to white and the rest was neon pink. I had to undo all the styling, strip the dye from the wig, and re-dye it with acrylic ink and a bit of RIT.

I have never had a wig give me as many problems as Vinegar Doppio, but the good news is that the acrylic/RIT combo has stood stable on me for over a year, including wearing it in the sun. yay!

I like that one a lot more! Besides, that's Epic Cosplay, and my friends and I have had insane luck with their long wigs not tangling as much as other brands. So that and a pre-treatment with scotch guard and motions oil sheen and your hair will look as beautiful as DIO could ever want!

Also to be fair, I've done a lot of Sharpie dyeing on wigs for both myself and my friends, and literally the only color that's ever caused me stupid amounts of trouble is light purple/lavender. Red's been fine, pink has been fine, silver's been fine, green's been fine, yellow/gold is fine, adding black to darken a too-bright color's been fine. Purple is a nightmare in every form I've used, and I'm convinced that it has something to do with Sharpie purple pigment.

There seems to be lots of designs for the stripes and I'm wondering if I should just do multiple red stripes or a single red stripe with the heart decoration for the sleeves? It's lookin' great for a first top made from scratch! I personally think you should go with hearts, but I have been drafting patterns for Dio for a while, so hearts are kind of on the brain. Plus you could always pick up the ladies by telling them you 'wear your heart on your sleeve' ;D

Also, for your leggings, I think you may wanna consider wearing a solid colored opaque pair under them, because when you are getting into the serious poses, like in that pic right there, the come off as more sheer than when you're standing still. Just my 2 cents.
