Well I think Ivy looks great. I mean, even for a pretty big girl, I'd say she looks pretty damn hot here. And she has the cutest face, really lovely and flattering makeup, and she makes a great redhead.
Plus cosplay is for fun, not for the approval of others. She looks like she's having fun alright, and she looks sexy and confident doing it.

While the ivy does have a pretty face, it would be much prettier with less fat consuming her chin/neck area
Also, look at her corset. There's no nice curve, just bulges. BULGES IN A CORSET. And you can see the cellulite through her tights. She is very unhealthy, and should literally feel bad, as obese people do (tired, bloated, etc)
She should definitely watch herself, both for health reasons and to actually look decent in a cosplay. Looking decent doesn't just mean her face is nice, because her body is a nightmare.

I have no qualms modifying my bodyline stuff. Skirts are cheap for extra matching fabric. But the whole reason for modifying it is so that I don't need to wear anything over it to hide anything like I would if I left it unaltered (boobloaf, stretching for example).

I won't dare do it to brand though. I'll stick to buying stuff I know will fit me.

Honestly, it all comes down to your body type and how it matches the character. How the character's clothing will look on you is also important. Although at this point in my post I feel like I'm just pointing out the obvious.

It's been... 8 years. The internet does not forget. The funny thing is, I made it as a joke costume because I knew I was a fatty cosplaying that character and ruining it for all the neckbearded basement trolls. So I didn't take it seriously at all, made it pretty bad (modest, but bad) and wore the shit out of it for 2 years until it basically fell apart. I don't really care so much that memes were made (I found it funny tbh). Nor do I care that I got flack for being a fat cosplayer. But it is a lot easier for bigger lolitas, and more people are accepting of it than cosplay. I guess you can get it either way. But when it comes to Lolita, you're getting ridiculed by catty women. In cosplay you're getting judged as fap material.

Though when I reach my weight loss goals, I'd like to reattempt the costume (or more likely, another costume of the same character) and do it seriously, just for the lulz, if that makes any sense.

To further clarify, I'm 10lbs away from no longer being overweight, 20lbs previously I was no longer considered obese. 10lbs above that (and then some) was where I was when I cosplayed a great deal. Preach it to the choir.

Lolita dresses tend to look ill fitting and ridiculous on more heavy set girls unless they have shirring, and even then, it depends on how heavy the girl is.
