Alright seagulls, what's your guilty pleasure? What's the one series that you still love, despite the batshit fandom, bad cosplayers, weebs, or attention whores? Do you still cosplay from this series? Are you planning any from it? What's your worst related story from it?
Pic related, for some reason I still like this series, even if the latest arc is shit.

Kingdom Hearts
Really only the first game and KH2, I didnt like the gameboy releases or the PSP one. But I really like the first game and the second one. And I dont know why. I think it's all the disney, it's actually a lot of fun going through some of the worlds. And I get a laugh because it feels so much like self insert fan fic. I mean it actually is, a too good main character going around pre established stories and saving their story because of said main characters awesomeness. Yet it's still endearing to me. It doesnt hurt that the gameplay isnt too bad either. I really dont like turn based combat which I think is why I really grew attached to it. It was one of my earlier games when the first one came out so it was pretty easy just to use button smashing and have a ball with it.

And Kairi (KH2 version) was one of my first cosplays, I bought it not made it and a friend later broke my dress when she tried it on with out asking.

But the fandom is so awful it's just... augh.

I know those feelings well... I fucking love KH and KH2, but that fandom sometimes...
I'm a little thankful now because it's not like everyone and their mother is doing KH.

For me its Homestuck. I love Homestuck, and some of the fandom is tolerable, but as for batshit, bad cosplayers, weebs, and attention whores theres absolutely no doubt in my mind that there's all those in spades.

I'm kind of waiting for it to be like Kingdom Hearts in my area, where the hype dies down and eventually it becomes more of a "Oh man I remember Homestuck it's great" than a "holy shit why did I choose Homestuck to cosplay 3/4 of this con is Homestuck please stop screaming kids I am so sorry other con-goers I swear I'm not like these guys wait why are you sneering at me I told you I'm not like them"

Despite all this I still cosplay it though. And two of my next planned cosplays are HS so there's no chance of leaving it soon.

Kuroshitsuji, though I'm not much into it anymore after the most recent arcs. The original story really drew me in with the clever storytelling and mystery elements, and to me Ciel was never cute. He was a twisted, selfish little boy and I really fell in love with him the more he revealed of his disturbing nature. I wanted to see what he would grow into as a man, or if he would even make it that far. I had really high hopes for the storyline but lately it just feels lazy and panders to the wrong crowd. The fandom honestly wasn't too bad until the anime... from then on it was just a downward spiral into derpravity and KAWAII CIEL-CHANS!!11 KAKKOI SEBBY!!

I cosplayed from it twice and had plans for more but don't know if I'll ever get around to them. I don't get how there are so many amazing costumes and people make the same three outfits over and over and over. At conventions the fangirls and more obnoxious cosplayers really are the worst. When we did the Circus group most of the Kuroshituji cosplayers didn't know who we were. When I cosplayed Ciel I was harrassed by hambeasts, creepy stalking Sebastians and snubbed really hard by other Ciel.

>wearing ciel (5'1", shota-shorts), sebastian pops up for photo
>costume is mediocre but they seem nice so who cares!
>puts arms around me for photo, okay whatever
>puts face near my neck... uhhh, maybe for one picture
>hands start groping my legs/ass and fangirls screaming
>I pull away and get mad
>fangirls scream louder, they all think I'm being a tsundere
>sebastian grabs my face in hand and says something I don't remember, I'm just so shocked this person grabbed me by the face. pretty sure muttered something about being a bad boy.
>I get mad and slap them away, leave because WTF
>they keep popping up near me all weekend
>keep hedging into my photos, keep 'running into me'
>mfw on sunday (we haven't actually spoken since the photoshoot) they tell me they love me and want my email.
>tell them I'm taken... gtfo.

Hetalia all the way.

I actually don't have any personal horror stories, surprisingly enough, but I have been in Hetalia groups where people are generally just immature and there is unnecessary drama.

>>6580088

And Black Butler. I'm with you OP on the manga arc (though is a school story really any better than zombie!Titanic?) I had some girl glomp me (like a hard, running glomp) when I was Ciel in Wonderland. She apparently mistook me for a friend. I was so angry I left the con after that (it was Sunday, so I wasn't too pissed about missing out).

Also going to have to say FMA. The fandom isn't bad, but the Edward Elric fangirls... I get the most comments and jabs and heckles in that cosplay. So I guess Ed is my guilty pleasure? Even if there are a million bad cosplayers of him running around with their own greasy brown hair and sneakers.

Pic semi-related. The Al posted to the elricest lj com asking for money to go see her Ed. These two were in online ldr and seriously believed themselves to be Ed and Al. I tried giving them some advice because at the time I was in an ldr that had started online and transitioned into real life, but they were just oblivious to reality. I think they've moved on to other fandoms, but the level of delusion... like the Al refused to role play with anyone else because she viewed it as cheating. Their cosplay isn't terrible, but I know Al wore the cosplay in the airport while she flew to go see Ed in Canada.

They also posted my fanart on their FB and didn't credit and I bitched them out because I don't want my fanart on Facebook at all. I had to do this several times and Al always got upset and claimed it was her bipolar that made her... I guess get so upset? Idk, I can't stand when people instantly throw out a medical condition as an excuse.

So that's my elricest horror story for the fandom.

Another Homestuck. I prefer doing personal takes on alternate outfits (pic related, glitch trickster shirt just after I finished it) or species swap kids just so that I look a little different to cookie cutter defaults. I also really love the latest updates for a couple of reasons.
The first being that Hussie is pissing off the fanbase so much with this trickster shit and the second being colourful outfits (fuck yes) rather than black+grey+candycorn and white+tiny logo.
I also have an intense dislike for the majority of the fandom but that's what happens with a larger reaching media. It's like Naruto all over again.

Vocaloid. Holy shit Vocaloid fandom I just can't deal with the levels of weeb in it it makes me cringe. I've always wanted to cosplay from it, but tbh I neither have the body type for it and I don't want to get harassed by little screeching girls.

It actually makes me really sad because its hard seeing any artist's hard work being reduced down to "Kawaii uguu" by its fandom. I feel like this happened to Kuroshitsuji and I do wanna read it but I'm put off by the younger fanbase.

Guilty Pleasure:
Singing animu songs with my best friend
Dancing the kawaii dances
I like inuyasha
I'm intrigued by homestuck but not enough to read it.
I'm actually intrigued by rabid fan/horror stories. Fucking love em. I like to read some of them to my fiance and tell him "that's gonna be you..."
I love legend of zelda but I cannot/do not talk about it with anyone. My best friends boyfriend makes me a little ashamed to like it. He is what's wrong with every zelda fan. I mean it. He won't play very many other games (absolutely refuses to play anythin new), he says LoZ is the best game ever, and he hates rabid fans DESPITE being one.
I made the mistake of telling someone I like zelda (along with a few other games ) and they said "Ohhh nooo you're one of those!"
So now its almost a dirty little secret...I still wanna cosplay skullkid though..
Not cosplay related: I fucking love call me maybe.

I don't hate bad cosplays (I only think drawn on facial hair is...weird looking) it reminds me of when I first started.

Hetalia, Bleach, and, to an extent, Pokémon.
I'm only slightly active in the Hetalia and Pokémon fandoms, but they all kind of get a bad rep.
I hate telling people my favourite cosplays are from Pokémon, because it's always assumed to be, "babby's first vidya," even though the manga and games do get fairly dark. Also, Pokémon gijinka are almost always looked down on, because most people just slap on ears and a tail onto regular clothing so they can be easily noticed, while the really nice, elaborate ones get passed over because people expect gijinka to be uncreative and instantly recognisable.
Oh, and JRPGs in general. They're pretty much my main genre, but goddamn if it can't attract some of the biggest weebs.

Yeah they'll hate any female character that gets in the way of their ship. A lot of fandoms are that way, but it's especially bad with Zelda because most fangirls still can't get it through their fat skulls that none of the pairings with Link are canon like they seem to think.

That was early 2011 I believe, they have sense moved on to more outrageous fuckery. We're on the second major arc since then, but if I do recall (haven't re-read it in a bit) the leftover plot from the circus arc is rearing it's head, or did in between the Sherlock Holmes/detective arc and the zombie!Titanic arc. Or maybe it was between zombie!Titanic and school story arc.

Zombie!Titanic was almost a whole year long if I remember right. A very trite plot, but there are MAJOR character revelations. So worth it for the big reveals? Otherwise the story hasn't been stellar.

Admittedly I got into the series because my gf at the time was like, "It's mostly male and when countries form an alliance it's like a marriage." So I got hooked because of the yaoi subtexts, but stayed for the weird history and such. It just makes international geopolitics more enjoyable in my head.

I think people get drawn to it because there is a huge cast, so it's easy to find a character you like and aren't so boxed in. The costumes CAN be easy, but there is also a huge range of options. First it was uniforms, then historical dress, then Halloween stuffs, now Nyotalia, and more recently 2P (which I understand on a base level, but don't comprehend the obsession with it, same with Nyotalia, which is an excuse for girls to not have to crossplay).

Also, the episodes are short. You don't have to devote a lot of time to the actual anime or manga because it's such a short, fast presentation. It's not like a series you have to take time to watch and digest over a longer period of time. You can watch all of Hetalia's 100 episodes within the course of a day or two.

And fangirls always like something they can ship that has semi-canonical sexual innuendo.

>> No.6580552

Well, Yana Toboso certainly seems aware of the yaoi tendencies of her series, though she definitely does not label it as such and really resists fans labeling it as yaoi.

I was hoping with the Titanic arc she might pull another corset like scene with a car scene reference, but it was like the one thing from the Titanic movie she didn't directly copy (sadly).

Though with recent Lizzy developments, it seems she pushing the het a lot more. There is way more interaction between Ciel and Lizzy in the Titanic arc and Lizzy seems to be starting to take on a more typical shojo heroine role. Though the story is still fundamentally about Ciel's revenge, lately it seems that overarching plot has gotten lost. The last two arcs... I can't even remember what their significance is to the larger story. Which tells you something right there. I need to re-read the series, but I feel the plot got lost somewhere after the circus arc, or maybe that the last major thing I remember beyond these last 3 plots which are interesting side ventures and would make a good OVA type story, but aren't in the least bit relevant it seems.

I want more of Ciel's descent in darkness. That's what this inevitably right? It'll be a choice between his revenge and his humanity, how far he'll actually go to know who killed his parents.

There are interesting fan theories though that have surfaced, so at least fandom seems to be thinking beyond zombies and cricket matches.

And the photoshoot was so full of screaming fangirls that most of us couldn't hear which countries were being called up to pose. I also had a Ciel cosplayer sing an entire song to me while I was France because there was a song she knew about the French Revolution.

And Homestuck. I don't care what the fandom does to him, I will always love Bro Strider. He's the only thing that keeps me reading the series.

Look up the Seven Deadly Sins series (you can find the songs on the wiki), that one is pretty good for backstories and all of that shit. Just avoid the fans that won't shut up about Daughter/Servant of Evil, and the girls that think that they would like to be in Venomania's harem. If you avoid them, you're good.

Usually I only talk to my friends about the songs because the fandom is so horrible.

I don't understand why you jumped to the conclusion about the Hyrulean Royal family's policy on marriage, it's fictional and I don't recall it ever being mentioned (???). Princesses could marry whoever they want in a lot of places in history. And technically Link is a savior who was chosen by the gods to save their land, wielding the Master Sword and has the Triforce of Courage, so I'd say he's the roughly the equivalent.

I would give Skyward Sword a shot. I would say it's far from the best, but still a mile better than than the God-awful Twilight Princess.

It gets a little boring because it's kind of repetitive, the motion plus can get annoying, and the fact that it's rated E is worse (the fucking boss in the sandship dungeon looked like a purple Mike Wazowski). But overall it explains a lot about the series, how things came to be, and the characters are fun.

I love Naruto so much, It's sadly one of the only things that makes me happy anymore. I'm into shipping alot, but i try not to shove it down anyone's throat haha I really cant help how badly i love it.

And its those obnoxious Narutotards that annoyed everyone and ruined it for the 'calm' fans. I mean, they were so bad they are now the cosplayers all the new obnoxious cosplayers get compared to... I still cosplay as characters from Naruto, but I'm scared one of the obnoxious people might still be in the fandom and do something weird at me...

I just want to enjoy it like any other fandom without being judged or ninja raped lol

Another Fandom I still love is Yugioh, and as much as i love Yugioh Abridged, and i'm very glad that it brought the fandom back a bit, i'm so pissed off at how annoying the fans are now... It's like the recent fans are just cosplaying from YuGiOh Abridged and dont even really know the actual show (Even if the show did play card games a little too much haha)... Maybe i explained that badly, but it just comes down to the fact that I really cant stand obnoxious people who dont understand social norms or what personal space is...

Pokemon. I have loved it since I was 7. I'm very open about loving Pokemon, it's not really embarrassing. What I don't tell them, however, is that I ship Ash/Gary (and Red/Blue ofc). Actually majority of them don't even know I like SA and Yaoi. Did I mention Shota?
I've done a shitty Ash cosplay and dressed up as Pikachu for Halloween before, but nothing serious. I would totally be down to get another girl and we could both dress as Red and Blue and hold hands and be obnoxious and take some Red/Blue shipping pics. But there's no way (read: never, ever) I would do that.

Well then I'll go, MLP is my big fandom.
Yet I haaaaate so so much of it.
I'm cosplaying Pinkie Pie this summer in her Gala dress. I'd be worried about the bronys but they tend to be self absorbed enough I doubt I'll even show up as a blip on their radar.

But it's like... I hate the fandom and I dont. I cant hate the bronies because I find it charming that these guys like the show and who am I to say they cant, and some of them are really gracious about it and not spilling spaghetti all over themselves, tends to be the ones that are a smidge older. And those who do have social problems I'm kinda glad they found an outlet to grow through.

But holy hell. Every one says that the brony fandom creates lots of art... but all the shitty art man.... I made a hobby out of browsing fim fiction and laughing at reviewers tearing apart bad self insert fan fics. Like you thought finding a mary sue in other fiction is easy, here every other story is "(Male name here, though sometimes female) Wakes up to find themselves in ponyvill! What ever will they do?" and is always tagged as romance.

But some of the fan fic isnt so bad if you find a funny one, and some of the fan art is cool and I like some of the song remix's (even if I'm not a big techno fan)

could still do with out the clopping though.

I used to be a huge AT buff. I tried to talk about it with my (only) friend but she said AT was weird and stupid. Now after discovering tumblr (kill me) she suddenly loves it and talks about Fionna and Cake all the time. She has a habit of inserting herself into her favorite female characters to reflect her fantasies and it's leaking into fucking everything we discuss, including all kinds of anime, games and some other shows. She has seen literally two episodes of the entire show but she talks about it constantly and obsessives over the R63 fanart. She's even adopted the tumblr typing style. You know the one.

I love MLP and I own a bunch of merch but I'm always afraid that potential anime-loving friends will judge me based around the shit they've seen on the internet.

I love Yana Toboso's work and I find her sense of humor cute, but the Kuroshitsuji anime was a trainwreck. My guilty pleasures are Kuroshits, RoTG, HP, and comics.

For Kuroshits, I haven't really kept up with the manga lately, but the second season of the show was absolute mind-fuckery and I stopped following mid-way through. Some fansgirls/boys are insane. Luckily most people have been very polite when I cosplayed Ciel and Drocell (who has a weird following). That said, there seem to be either really stunning cosplays or really bad ones. Really awesome people/cosplayers or the really insane/annoying ones. There's no middle-ground in Kuroshitsuji.

RoTG, still new but it is somewhat hard to wade through the Tumblr tags and DA submissions of utter shit and KEKEKE JACK x PITCH YAOI fanfics and fanart before finding the few really nice cosplay or art gems.

HP, nuff said. Insane fans are insane but I still really enjoyed the books and the films.

And finally, I think you guys know what I mean about comics. I've been a casual reader for years but with the sudden bumper crop of comic-to-movies has brought on a lot more comic cosplay, which is totally cool until people started trying to be so U-NIQUE and skankifying everything and doing fem! versions of characters, some of which already exist but no, people have to go above and beyond to skankify.

But regardless of fandom, I wouldn't tell people I watch MLP anyway, as you could probably imagine, seeing that I'm your average, 20 year-old guy studying for engineering and spending time in the gym. But it makes me smile, and I've lightened up a lot since then.

You shouldn't feel guilty of that one. But I know how that feels. A few of my friends ship yaoi pairings so hard, they forget the cannon ones existed in the first place until I mention it sometime. "Wait, they're together? ...Oh yeah!"

Homestuck and a little of MLP. I've been in Homestuck for nearly two years now, but holy shit am I losing interest in it. I've thought a lot about leaving the fandom, but haven't mostly for the fact that before this, my (first) fandom was Hetalia around its height and I'd feel too weird not to be in a big fandom.

I'm too embarrassed to admit that I'm into MLP, partially because MLP fans are at least somehow psychotic, but mostly because two IRL friends are ass-deep in the fandom and I'm trying to keep myself out of it for my own sake.

>KEKEKE JACK x PITCH YAOI fanfics and fanart

I figured Pitch wasn't ~*kawaii*~ enough to be shipping material. Color me surprised. I haven't heard any cosplay horror stories from the RotG fandom yet, so I guess I'm safe to wear Pitch...

Anyway, I guess my guilty pleasure would be the second season of Kuroshitsuji, but it's really only because of Claude. He's such an absolute bastard, he's convincingly demonic in his behavior and his agenda, and it was finally nice to have a character that was Sebastian's equal. There was so much potential for so much conflict and interaction, but it just never happened and it went to shit.
Either way, no matter how awful the fandom gets, I think I'll always keep an eye on the series. I got into it mostly because it seemed like a less stressful version of Godchild.

Supposedly, Blast is the last arc so it'll FINALLY end after this, but she keeps releasing chapters for side stories instead (like the Gaiden oneshot she just released), plus there's Ibun, and her other manga series on top of that. I'm just trying to hold on to hope; if I've made it this long, I can hold out as long as people are still translating.

The story quality has never gone down though, in my opinion; that's the thing that's kept me reading. And while her art was shaky during her illness pre-surgery, it's back to full strength now.

And I'm glad the plot hasn't taken a nose dive. I was all over Hitman Reborn up until the final arcs, and it just ended so badly.

Guilty pleasures oh boy here we go
Yaoi, HotD, bleach, Naruto, and Kingdom Hearts

I find a lot of weeby things related to KH, bleach and naruto. I honestly enjoy the story line in the naruto manga. Im not a big fan of the anime but its alright. Bleach is also similar in annoyance to naruto but not nearly as much. The fanbase for bleach seems more um..calm? Than the naruto one but meh I like the story and characters. KH on the other hand I liked because of a yaoi pairing then got into the games and I regret nothing ( if you must know its axel roxas). As for HotD if you know of it which I'd be surprised if you didnt then you know why it is a guilty pleasure.

>>6583319
I am actually pretty tolerant of what people ship and can see why people like that pairing, but I think the aspect of Jack x Pitch that is most disturbing is the really shitty fanart of it. I mean "exceptionally bad but still gets a ton of praise and favs just because of the pairing" shit. If it were at least nice-looking fanarts I smile and say, "Not my cup of tea, but that's a pretty awesome picture someone took the time to craft." but no... shit-tier crayons/colored pencil/lined notebook paper doodles. It almost makes me want to leave the DA groups I'm in, but I still want to hang on for the really nice things that also make their way through.

The lined paper drawings creep me out especially since I'm a teacher and I can totally visualize any one of my idiot students doodling that terribad yaoi on a sheet of paper instead of listening to me tell them exactly what to study and what the questions are on tomorrow's test.

The Tales fandom has its share of retards but there are a number of mature/typically older fans who are pretty chill. One of my friends is a pretty big fan who cosplays from a lot of the Tales games and she doesn't seem to have much trouble at gatherings. I had a white shirt so it kinda worked, also no chainsaw. Meh, too big to bring with him maybe. No glasses, wait..what. Ok, ok. I got to borrow a red pair of glasses from a friend so no damage done. The wig...By tall that is holy and alive what teh fuck have you done with it??! My friend had to cut it and comb it for almost two hours before it just looked awful but it had to do. She brought said friend over to play once and they got into a huge argument because she said she was going to marry Sesshomaru and my neighbor said you can't marry anime characters and she got super mad.

Thankfully, not had much in the many of awful fandom stories as my friends and I have managed to cosplay from the show before it really took off where I'm based. I have heard of bad stories after we did. I'm planning on cosplaying from it again sometime in the future.

KH and FVII, pretty much the same as above. I haven't had any personal probs with any of the fandoms but know of friends who have. Planning on doing a KH costume sometime this year with some friends.

Code Geass, is a show I love. I haven't had chance to cosplay from it yet.

For the most part I have managed to avoid any horror stories. I think its down to the people I hang with and that I don't really take part in any major groups.

I'm gonna say Sailormoon, and I fear that with the new coming series there's going to be an even greater influx of them. I've cosplayed Usagi and Sailormoon a few times, and I'm working on Princess Sailormoon as we speak. My goal originally had been to make sure I finished most before summer to avoid the big bandwagon, but at the same time, new series could also mean new designs and some other awesome cosplays from others too.

>Kaleido Star
>bad

Nooo, get out of here, Kaleido Star is great. I am a fellow circusfag and while the stuff she's asked to do is often completely ludicrous (backflips on swinging tightropes on boats in the rain...wat), and Kalos and that French dude would be in jail for the shit they put people up to, but that unrealistic element is part of what makes it fun. Sometimes there are little touches of realism that I appreciate though, like Sora getting blisters on her hands when she's learning trapeze, and being afraid after her fall during the mermaid audition because I've been through stuff like that.

However I will grant you that the second season (ep. 26 onward) is far inferior to the first and pushes the ludicrous challenges and irritating co-workers too far. But the first season is one of my favorites.

Erm, sorry for the tl;dr reply, I couldn't help myself. I love Kaleido Star.

Also, Final Fantasy. My first FF was 10, which I get a lot of shit for from the fandom. I did make an effort to play the previous final fantasy after I was introduced but its not good enough apparently. The fandom is filled with spoiled brats and it pisses me of because my family and I never had a TV to watch let alone play video games on till 2006. So I stopped mentioning and cosplaying from anything before FF7.

Is it weird that I don't consider Pokemon a guilty pleasure? Maybe I just had an awesome pokemon scene at my college. Competitive gamer, primarily, but I enjoy casual gaming and fanfiction, mainly writing it (and I'll ship most het couples and a select few gays).

Naruto is my actual guilty pleasure. No shipping, though, I mostly just like the jutsu and fighting. However, manga lost the more complex introspection on human bonds a long time ago, about the time he retconned the Uchiha massacre. Anime has 1 good episode per 50-100 eps, and everything in between seems to have been the most uninspired production values, to say nothing of the fillers. And the fandom? What fandom? It's all hiveminded haters now. People who can't discuss why they hate naruto, but only do so to be in-sync with the rest of the crowd.

It was the first anime I ever watched in the original audio, and even though it's a ridiculously obvious copy of Sailor Moon, it still holds a place in my heart, and I could probably watch the anime anytime. As for cosplay, I have honestly considered cosplaying Mew Retasu/Lettuce because she's been my waifu for ages.

Aside from that, I really like Kingdom Hearts-games, and Final Fantasy VII. The shameful thing about the latter is that I have played it only for few hours, so my love for it is kinda based on Aerith on KH, and Advent Children. Still have my collection around here. I was the top in my school with those and knew how good a Beyblade was by just looking at the parts. Was usually the guy everyone got advice from, or tested theirs against.
I stopped bringing mine since I got bored of no one being a challenge, and 2 weeks later I never saw a Beyblade at school again. Was really sad to see them go.

I think the second season is just baaaaad (but I still like it and watch it) but I will agree the first season isnt bad, I would even call a lot of episodes good. The second season just frustrates me to no end because of Mai. I mean she's better in the later half of the season but she's just one of those ani heros I hate so much, and I"m not sure if that makes her a good anti hero or not since your not supposed to like her but she's just frustrating.

(also yay more circus fags, which reminds me I need to go stretch still today)

It does have some realistic moments, I like those, like yeah blood blisters on feet, those happen, and they hurt like all living hell and your hands are going to get blistered and bruised while working trapeze. And my favorite episode is the episode of fear after the mermaid thing. (also that's one part of season two that bothered me, like when they criticized her for not trusting Leon as a partner. No she has a legit reason to not want to perform with him. I dont care about your talent you cant bend gravity and stop your self from falling if he doesnt catch you. No. I would not perform with some one like him EVER)

I think what bugs me is her learning these techniques SO FAST. Like, no, how did you do that? Or (I mostly see this in season two) she cant do it cause of physical limitations like lack of balance or lack of legs strength, but then meeting some one gives her more motivation? And some how that physical impossibility is no longer an impossibility? And yeah Kalos is not a good boss, so many of those actors should have been fired for so many things (Mai, the hell, how did she not get fired? Just no you dont interrupt a performance!

But in the end I have to admit I still really like it and I get all happy when when watching it, and kinda happy to see theres another person out there who likes it.

>> No.6594671

>>6594669
Also the one thing I do really like about season two, is that her arch goes from just being a performer for re discovering it's about the audience. I think that was the one major thing of season two I really agreed with. Because as cool as it is to be an awesome performer, your there because of the audience, you dont get to keep making money if they arent happy to watch you perform. And almost every performer I know from my local circus com got into performing because they liked to make folks smile while performing, I mean obviously every ones got their own reasons but that's a big one and it was my reason. So I really like that they emphasized that.

For my over all tl;dr, yeah show can be really bad, but I do still like it and after thinking about it a bit and marathoning it again the other day, I realize a bit more why I enjoy it.

Also the dub is so atrocious if you ever get the chance to listen to it. It makes me laugh so hard to the point I actually general watch it dubbed now for the extra laughs.

But it could use new energy yeah. I mean SM has this odd ability to have been ever lasting really in fandom eyes, I've seen good artwork of it for as long as I can remember first logging into the internet, but I'm glad to see more of it now that folks are excited for the reboot. I've enjoyed Sailor Moon since I was in middle school when it first came to the US. I collected the Mixx issues and the volumes when it had bad translations and all that.

So I feel a bit possessive of it, but it'll be nice to see some newer fans. What bothers me is the fans who insist that if you're not keeping up with the latest news, or you haven't seen every episode, then you're not a real fan.

I also don't understand why Sailor Moon collectors spend so much money on cheap toys. I don't think they're all that impressive. I couldn't justify spending over 50$ for something like that.

As for my guilty pleasures I enjoy KH, Final Fantasy, mostly Aeris because I love white mages, Sailor Moon, Evangelion, Escaflowne and a bunch of older JRPGs and anime.

It's mostly a guilty pleasure because I can't find anyone in my age group (late 20's) who are chill and just want to watch some anime and talk about it, but not obsess over it.

You know I actually finished it this summer. I started watching it when I was 13 but I only really got bits and pieces. This time I watched the whole thing in order, including Kanketsu-hen. It was a great experience, not gonna lie. I fell in love with the series again like before, despite the flaws. And the ending was incredibly satisfying for me.

I am now full of warm fuzzy feelings. Yes. This series is definitely a guilty pleasure for me.

Currently, SAO is starting to get this way for me. I know it wasn't deep or groundbreaking or whatever BUT I DON'T CARE it was pretty with good music, I love Asuna and Kirito and it gave me so many feels.

Also, there's shows I love but I kind of avoid the fandoms. Higurashi was my top favourite anime for about six years but right now it seems a good majority of the fans are sixteen year olds who think they're being so edgy desu cause it's gory and sooo dark. Maybe I'm being completely unfair because I was probably one of them before. Inuyasha is another one of my favourite older animes that I still enjoy. I haven't seen the full series because I don't like fillers but I did like watching the dub; which I usually don't prefer. I started reading the manga a while ago and I'm rather enjoying it.

Make the costumes of characters you like. Do not be influenced by just what is popular.
At the very least you can get a group together and make it the popular thing when you attend a con.
And furthermore, being popular at a con isn't the total focus anymore anyways. People go on photoshoots and post it every damn where which makes them popular.

Honestly though, just do what you like.

Its good to have a Joker with you! Overall I had a good time in the costume, there were a few comments but easily ignored. The good part about looking like a bondage queen is you intimidate the fuck out of everyone around you, creepers included.

Despite the fact I got a lot more male attention than usual I got less pictures because people were afraid to come up to me.

Lol yay. Keep the creepers at bay. I am super excited for it though just cause their outfits are really pretty to me, if I can just pull off her difficult top.
This and Mitsuru's catsuit are going to intimidate any creepers enough that I should be safe. With Kuro the worst is doing Ciel or Sebby just because fangirls and... insane Grells.

InuYasha was my guilty pleasure. The series itself was so god damn messy and the characters were annoying as hell, but I loved it. The top is a real bitch, pretty much the worst part of the costume. If I could go back and redo it I would just cover a bra with vinyl and build the bodice around it, way easier.

As I'm finding out. I have her stockings done, made a lace front from scratch (it was...rather time consuming but not that hard) her skirt done and gloves, just need the sash and top. I was thinking of maybe recovering an underbust corset and recycling an old bra with the right fit. Would that work?

homestuck reporting in

i actually have some stuff from the topatoco store but i make a point to never wear any of it in public because of this one time i got dressed in the dark and ended up wearing my dave shirt

i didn't bother changing because i thought it'd be fine and people who recognized it wouldn't freak out too much but then this awful screechy fan came up to me when i was walking to class and started yelling about homestuck and it was terrifying

tl;dr i'm dumb and other homestucks have taught me the importance of hiding my power level (does that term apply here)

i'm also a closet sherlockian because i'm just really ashamed of some parts of the fandom (i'm looking at you rabid johnlock shippers) and i don't want to be at all associated with them

Wow I just bought my lacefront, hardcore.

I think you could do it that way, probably. It might be a lot easier as long as you're good at piecing stuff together and make a back panel to hide the corset lacing area etc.

I made mine a one piece corset and built the bra cups myself and wanted to die. It didn't turn out 100% perfect because vinyl is not a great material for bra-cups, but it wasn't terrible.

I'm on my phone and it doesn't copy quotes but I enjoy that fanart piece and I think you should definitely cosplay it.

Any cosplay from Escaflowne would be awesome really.

I also enjoy MKR. It was one of the first manga series I read as a kid and I loved the detail CLAMP drew for action scenes. Though I must say I'm not a fan of the second half of MKR but I have read it.

Hiding your power levels is the key to everything. Also, your pic is the best. Admittedly that's my face when I think of Homestuck, but your ability to be chill about your fandoms is what's awesome.

I think that's the key for ANYONE with a "guilty pleasure" or who is in one of these massive fandoms like HS or APH. Hiding power levels lets you like the series but not interact with the weebs.

It's also a sign of maturity.

Yugioh 5Ds.

I want to cosplay Yusei because I'm appropriately tan with sharp eyes because I'm half arab/egyptian and think I'd do a good job... but that crazy hair and tacky outfit, all of my friends laugh when I even mention it.

I've heard the YGO fandom is insane, but I've never interacted with them. The only people I know who like it are into the original series and obsessed with Malik, and hate 5Ds.

I love Malinda-chan's Yusei costume and wig, but it annoys me that she's so pasty which is really petty. I'm just jelly because she's living my dream, I guess.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who dislikes Midna. Zelda has always been one of those series' that I never ever wanted to ship anyone in, because it wasn't about that. It was about the story and the fun if going through dungeons and defeating ganon. I hate how shippy its gotten.

I like Hetalia, Kuroshitsuji, and Homestuck. I've made so many friends because of those Fandoms honestly. The only bad experience I've had with them is while Cosplaying Grell, I got treated horridly by another Grell who wanted my Sebastian. My Sebastian had to calmly remind the girl that neither of us were actually Grell or Sebastian, so she could stop shouting about "Fake Grell taking her Bassy."

My guilty pleasures
Fire Emblem (the video game series) - Elitists. Elitists everywhere. Fuck the Fire Emblem fandom with a burning passion. Same such a great SRPG series is poisoned by the fandom. Slowly getting the attention of weeabos sadly.

Katawa Shoujo - Lonely sad little niggas who either never played a visual novel or refuse to play one that isn't Katawa Shoujo. And if you do not like a female character or defend Hisao (because he's just an average teenager who got the wrong deal in life with his heart issues), get ready to basically get gang raped by the fandom. Boarderline weeabs but full of lonely men who only played this vusal novel because they thought it was gonna be full on cripple whore fuckin'.

Final Fantasy - The teen emo angst phase is starting to die down a bit but just a little. Still full of weeabos however.

My Little Pony - I actually do enjoy some of the characters in the series. The fandom is the main reason I do NOT want to watch it however. Please, somebody give me a shot gun or an AK so I can blast 'em. Had a friend who's a brony and mocked me for not liking MLP and tried to force me to watch it.

Comic Books - The source of the "Fake geek girls" he-man/woman hating club shit. Sorry, but I kinda left that shit behind when I was about 5. I'm 23 hitting 24 and I still see comic book nerds on that He-Man/Woman Hater club shit.

I just started watching it recently, like 2 days ago.. I just finished season 2 on Netflix but am waiting for AMC to re-air some of s3.
I didn't know Norman Reedus was in it, I literally squealed "BOONDOCK SAINTS!" when he came on the screen. I like the show so far though.

Moving on, there hasn't really been any anime that I've been super crazy about lately.
I really like Sukitte Ii Na Yo, although the tv show doesn't do the manga any justice.
I LOVE, love Shigofumi. Favorite show honestly.

I'll say this right now, I've never beat a Zelda game. But I loveeee playing the games, ocarina of time, wind waker, phantom hourglass. I feel terrible for saying I'm a fan when I've never beat any of the games. I will someday though..

Not dreading the new fans much, but I'm gonna hate the oldfag bandwagon-hoppers and people who only join the fandom now because it's suddenly cool to be a Sailor Moon fan.

>MLP
I collected ponies when I was little (I'm female), and I like bright and colorful cartoons. Casual bronies are cool most of the time, but not the ones who are virgin-for-life, spend 1000s of dollars on overpriced custom figures and plushies, argue online all day about how PinkieDash is OMGSOCANON, fap to awful fanfiction, and would rather stick their dick in a MLP plushie someone sewed a vagina into than go out and look for a real, human woman.

>Gundam Wing
Old show no one cares about anymore, but god, the fandom was so full of annoying and stupid 14 y/o fangirls and het-vs.-gay bullshit back in the day. Like holy flying fuck. Hetalia and Homestuck are what would be equal these days, and I'm so glad I'm not into those because it's much worse now.

>Madoka
Some idiots have to get over the fact that Madoka is not entirely original, and is not the first dark-and-edgy magical girl series. Not to mention, the characters aren't as OMG DEEP as some of the fans go on about. Still a cool show, though.

>Evangelion

Becuase in the character guide Grell says he wants a sex change (even though that's the Japanese stereotype for gay men, they all want to be women) and Yana says that he's only wanting it to get some dick.
But no, saying that makes him a serious MTF woman that wants love and respect despite torturing and mutilating 5 hookers.

>> No.6611051

>>6610973

I mean, that is a huge stereotype in general and I don't get why the SJW get pissy about people not taking their headcanon seriously instead of saying, "Okay, what's really the issue is the permanent feminization of gay men in culture." But it's just a manga, and from the way you put it and the way Yana said it, it really sounds like a joke. Even though it's a sad reality that a lot of gay men in non-Western countries do feel a sex change is their only option (I mean, Iran carried out more sex change operations than any other nation if that tells you anything).

People just get butthurt about the wrong thing. Maybe it's also part of the fetish people have for the villain and idealize and idolize that type of character despite their evil doings? I don't completely conceptualize Grell as a villain, but he's certainly antagonistic in the story, and that's not to say he doesn't have redeeming qualities.

But if people want to SJW about something, why not the fact that in an even truer Japanese stereotype, yet again the gay man is once again used as comic relief AND takes on the villainous role as someone who mutilates women (out of some implied hatred of women). It's the demonized yet comedic homosexual which is all too common in Japanese media. I'm not trying to be a SJW, I just am so boggle by fans who will project and read something hardly factual and get upset about it in the name of being SJW but completely miss the true "injustices" if you want to go that route.

Well, if you examine the cultures, Japan has more of a history of people donning clothes from the opposite gender or taking on the opposite gender's identity in entertainment, i.e. kabuki and takarazuka. However, I would say that there IS a distinction made between people who PLAY the opposite gender, sexual orientation, and actual transgendered individuals. No one in Japan would call a kabuki actor playing a female a homosexual, but certainly those are homosocial types of theater one might go so far as to consider "queer" (especially with takarazuka, given that the fanbase for that is female, so it takes on my of a lesbian identity than say, kabuki, which doesn't have such a homogenous fanbase).

>> No.6611372

>>6611363

Continued, because I'm long winded.

Crossdressing is very much stigmatized in the West and while crossdressers in the stereotypical sense are stigmatized in Japan, it is at odds with their cultural history of gender segregated theater roles. But yes, in Japan the idea of a masculine homosexual doesn't really exist in heterosexual media as they conflate "gay" with female. The hyper masculine homosexual images come from homosexual media like bara comics. It is further compounded by the female ideal of a gay man as the perfect love (yaoi comics and the "gei bumu" all feed into this mindset), however, I would strongly argue that women are increasingly accepting of the "gay" label on their bishounen men.

At the same time, you have issues like gay rights and "coming out" becoming more public (not any less stigmatized) but what people don't realize it that until the West imported sexology in the late 1800s, Japan did not have the concept of "the homosexual." There was no such concept of a man or woman who had same-sex feelings as their sole romantic desire. There were surely same-sex liasons and literature, but the idea that someone is born or has a certain specific desire for the same sex is a Western import to Japan. So you don't really have the idea of a gay man who comes out, has a partner, and lives his life more or less openly with that partner. There are still the cultural expectations that, even if you're gay, you should get married to a woman and have kids, no matter who you sleep with on the side. The issue isn't that a guy sleeps with a guy (though you shouldn't flaunt it or talk about it), it's the issue that a guy who sleeps with guys JUST wants to do that and may want to spend the rest of his life with this guy and not have a wife AT ALL. It disrupts gender and societal norms. Which is why the gay rights movement in Japan has such a hard time of things. You're trying to promote equality and a lifestyle that didn't exist until recently.

I don't have much to tell because /cm/ never really gets to catastrophic levels when it comes to drama (the board's been borderline dead since 2010 and there was one large incident involving a troll spamming Hetalia threads), but from what I saw the threads would devolve into arguments regarding the differences between shotacons/pedophiles/those people that aren't pedos because they want to bone teenagers (can't remember what that's called), laws regarding the age of consent, whether or not someone who reads/watches the series and has feels for Alois or Ciel is a pedo, and of course someone that would go on huge tangents trying to defend that Grell is in fact a female and needs to be referred in the feminine pronoun.

I'll admit I'm not even a Kuroshitsuji fan, I've barely seen anything from the anime or read much of the manga. But what drew my attention to their threads and what turned out to be a lot of entertainment was all the tumblr/livejournal-esque immaturity and drama that stood out like a sore thumb compared to all the other posts on the board. Each thread would always end up with arguing to the point of deletion, and the majority of the pictures posted would end up being bad Deviantart fanart, thumbnails from Tumblr or reposted official art/manga panels.

And in an even more bizarre twist of events on one occasion there was a pair of posters that wouldn't stop using the thread like a chat room to the chagrin of the other anons, and from one referring to the other by their name, and this other person namefagging I was able to figure out they were two girls I used to go to high school with. I had to sit this one out to see what would happen.

Though technically, Black Butler isn't shotacon after Ciel turns 13. Shota, by the Japanese definition, is children 12 years old or younger. There's also no age of consent for males in Japan (which is SO problematic when dealing with sexual abuse/assault cases, in part because "rape" is only used for women and when men are raped it's still called "sexual assault"), so the distinction is really there for females since the age of consent is 13. So in Japan, if you're 12 or younger, it's child porn. If you're 13, you're old enough to have sex!

Of course, in the West it's viewed differently, to put it mildly.

>Age of consent is 13

Not again.13 is the all encompassing, basic lowest age of consent. It's there so teenage couples can't be arrested for having consensual sex, not so adults can go around fucking 13 year olds. Different regions have their own usually higher ages of consent.

>> No.6613127

>>6612020

Yes, and I realize that, but when the age of consent is that low (even to protect teenage couples) it says something about the Japanese legal system and the overall sexual psyche.

However, there are other countries with low ages of consent, or a low median age for when people lose their virginity. The differing factor in Japan is the generally lax legal attitude towards child pornography. It wasn't criminalized until 2001 (after intense international pressure) and it is legal to own. You can't make it or sell it or buy it, but you can own child pornography. Virtual child pornography is completely fine, though as of late they have taken more steps to censor these materials and make them less obviously available.

I was also discussing it in the context of sexual assault as the low age of consent does pose legal issues (even though rape rates are decreasing in Japan). But there is overwhelmingly a cultural acceptance of sexual depictions of children and the sexualization of youth (whether the Japanese people individually feel this way, or as a whole openly accept that their culture accepts this... i.e. the American gun culture: it's there, not everyone accepts it's part of that culture, but generally, yes, America has an openly accepted gun culture).

Speaking from a shota perspective though, that's not really anything new for children/youth to be sexually viewed. Historically, the wakashu of the wakashudo/shudo practices of the Edo period are perhaps predecessors to the contemporary shota ideal.
