Look, I don't know where you get your info from, but that's not how it works, you can't just sew more cloth on something to make it fit.

Clothing has seams and is cut specifically to fit on specific sizes and areas of the body for a reason.
Even if you did cut and reshape any sort of aesthetic seams having seams that are meant to go on the side of the dress randomly down your front and back would not look good or right at all. Even with something as simple as a skirt, adding side panels will bring the original seams in and it will have 4 seams and the fabric will look like random panels.

This sort of thing is just not how you do it, and if it is it looks bad. Always.

Seams as a rule have a 1.5 cm seam allowance. If you take a dress to a good tailor, they unpick the seams, and sew them back at maybe .5 or something. All those extra centimeters on each panel really make a difference
Adding panels is also not totally stupid, it has to be done well with the right fabric but someone trained can do it.

So I looked at the japanese lolita tag on tumblr and noticed that in pictures with group lolitas ... they look like a bunch of entitled ass bitches all were the same dress. There were dozens of pictures were there was a meet up and several exact dresses were duplicated.

All it reminds me of are the popular kids in middle school that all were generically the same thing and laugh really loud in the cafeteria so everyone knows they're having a beter time then those smelly weaboos across the way.

I got into lolita in 2006 and started reading /cgl/ in 2007. It took me three years to start wearing it in public because I was afraid someone would take a picture of me and post it to /cgl/ in an ita thread.

I STILL worry about that when it comes to questionable coordinates where I wanted to try something new instead of wearing the same outfit the same way for the 10th time and I'm derpfacing in all the pictures people take of me at meetups.
