Why do so many people like this show so much? I tried to watch it and it seemed like the entire thing was to make references that were obvious enough that anyone would get them, but related enough to nerdy things that people would still feel nerdy for getting them, so you can laugh and say TEEHEE NERD JOKE but everybody gets it and it's not really funny. That's the point I was trying to make. The "joke" is that he's a "nerd" when the reality is that there is no actual punchline and he isn't really a nerd. The characters (with the exception of the blonde chick who as far as I can tell gets treated like dog shit by the rest of them) say something that sounds like it could be vaguely intelligent or make some not-so-obscure pop-culture references and that's supposed to be humor. It's not.

So now I have some ass in one of my courses that thinks he's some kind of savant just because he watches BBT. I get the pleasure of hearing him say "Bazinga!" every three seconds.

All the girls at my tech. university are still incompetent in so many aspects of understanding how computers work, even though they went through multiple courses (about HW, operating systems, etc.), but they still can do little more than programming - and whenever girls are included in some one's team for a team project, they always get the simplest part of the project & some fluff like 'write the documentation'.

I think the problem is the way women prefer to study (as evident by how female teachers teach) - to learn things by hart / put a lot of stuff in your head but don't make any practical connections with the information you learned. They have less problems with programming, since they make the connection 'algorithm' = 'cooking book'.

My very first course in programming was taught by two people - one was a old woman with all the titles, the other was a relatively young guy who just got his PhD. title. The former is considered one of the cancers of our university, the latter one of the best lecturers we have here. Boring cooking book versus non-conventional, emphasize-the-practical approach. Figures, doesn't it.

Then again, the last time some girl here claimed to 'know computers' she failed horribly at the simplest questions (since she meant that she picked her own PC, zomg!) and quickly called me a misogynist / troll / etc.
