IMO, when you use a bold color (which you can do in any style!), you should complement it with a more toned-down one, no matter the style. Colorblocking and lolita aren't friends, unless you know what you are doing. After all, when wearing lolita, our clothes already stand out a lot!

Its perfectly alright to try out unconventional colour schemes to see if they look good together when worn. I mean if it doesn't work well, just don't wear that outfit again, or improve on that co ord by adjusting some of the colours. So don't worry about it.
