Anyone who takes a male character that's supposed to be a badass and rule 63s them with a trampy design. One example is female Altairs/Ezios/Connors with tons of leg, cleavage, and midriff. The game has multiple courtesan designs; if you want to be a hooker, just dress up as one of them. Or slutty Master Chiefs; the guy runs around all day getting shot at, what purpose would exposing your vital organs serve? I know that's not the point, but really, there's dozens of skimpy designs out there. If you want to be half-naked, just do one of those.
Also, people who walk up to you at cons and accuse you of being inaccurate. I had a costume recently that included a pair of brown thigh-highs and pink heels, and some guy asked if they were supposed to be boots. I said no, because in the references, you can clearly see the dividing line between where the heels end and the rest of the foot begins. Then he...asked if I was sure? Like I hadn't played 40+ hours of the game and did I even know what I was cosplaying? I think my brain melted a little after that.

Red Mage Viera. It's a little ambiguous in the Advance art, but in A2's, you can clearly see the line from the shoe to the foot. The shoe also has stitching detail and even details that make it look almost like dress shoes. In any case, definitely not boots.

>> No.6550609

>>6550607
I'll argue the heels on characters that don't wear them. For the most part none of us have the 6ft long anime giraffe legs and would look more inaccurate with short, stumpy legs than we would be a 2" heel you can't see from the front.

We have different definitions of accuracy and that's okay. Personally, I'd rather see a well done cosplay with accurate shoes done by someone with less than animu proportions than an equally well done one with the correct proportions and inaccurate shoes, but that's just me.

Are you really going to notice an 1" of heel in the back if the rest of the costume and shoe is accurate and the cosplayer looks great?

>> No.6550677

>>6550632
Agreed. I know sometimes heels can make people look thinner/leggier but if they're not accurate I lean on the side of being as modest as possible with the heel. I love shoes in costumes (to the point where I'll hand make boots/boot covers to be accurate) so I like sticking to the design as much as possible with my shit at least. Shoes get fucked in the cosplay process, even by fairly good cosplayers. People tend to skimp on them for some reason. My cosplay gurus always emphasized shoe accuracy and it really stuck.

Chill out dude, the thread is still on-topic and I wasn't nitpicking your opinion, I was just honestly curious because I had never heard of anyone having an issue with an accurate shoe with a heel before.

I definitely have to say that giant, tacky, vinyl hooker-heel type boots on male characters especially can completely ruin a great outfit though. Especially when the character has a beard, and is generally manly then has a spiked stiletto heel...

People who think they have the perfect hair for a character, but do not. Not just the red/orange thing, but girls who this they have long enough hair to be Sailor Moon wigless. It's just not good. Not related to a cosplayer him/herself, but I hate conflicting references. Like, if it looks one way in promotional art and another in the game/anime/VN/whatever. I understand the limitations of animation, but that doesn't account for everything.

This is a small thing, a pet peeve, but another thing that always strikes me as a missed opportunity is people who mess up the placement of objects. Because people are used to seeing mirror images of themselves, I often find that they put small details and props on the wrong side of their body. THIS.
I've been seeing way too many people who go on about how their hard work paid off, when all they did was go to good ol' eBay and buy a full costume and wig.
I'm sure if you made the money that paid for it, that may be considered hard work, but most of the kids I see saying this are the ones who are funded by the Bank of Dad/Mom.
Sorry, taking pre-made stuff for fit, adding buckles and paint is NOT hard work in ANY shape or form. Talk to me about hard work when you've turned a pile of fabric and notions into a well-made/fitted garment.

The shoe issue has always kind of peeved me. There are ways of adding in a 2"-3" heel without fucking with your accuracy. Wedges are nice for that, I've found. Legs/butts always look a little better with some sort of heel.
But come on, anything over 4" on a character in combat boots or loafers is just over the top.
You're just too lazy to look for better shoes.

I walk slightly on my toes. You're not meant to walk completely flat footed anyway, which is why flat shoes with solid soles are less comfortable than wedged/heeled shoes. That said, I've been wearing high heels exclusively for about four years now, and before that I wore those awful clog type things that have a 1" wedge or something, or converse, which hurt like fuck after a few hours. I've now trained my tendons into wearing heels, so if the heel is less that 1", I'm in pain. I also can't dance at all in flat shoes. Mu current shoes have approximately a 1 1/2" heel, and today I walked around London in a 3" heel with no issue. They just feel normal now. I always hated this. I can see where people enjoy not telling people but the teaser and the trailers for it..it's annoying.

Hate it when girls crossplay but don't bind themselves. Being a girl with large breasts myself I know it's not always possible to make yourself look flat, but at least try to bind as good as possible instead of wearing a push-up bra. Double D's look ridiculous when you're obviously crossplaying.

As someone who as had a secret costume that worked better because it was a surprise, I can understand the need in having a secret cosplay as sometimes you want people to take in the outfit all at once or you don't want to generate more hype than needed. The only good analogy I can think of is comparing the experience of watching a really good youtube video in one go vs the same movie on a bad connection and you're stopping to pause constantly to let the download bar catch up.. Sure you're eager to see the thing completed but that level of exciment pales in the comparision to seeing the finished piece all at once.

The issue lies in that people don't realize that a secret cosplay should supposed to stay secret. Usually you say "I got something big planned" and then just leave it at that. Constantly rubbing in the fact you have plans is just obnoxious.

Since you all are talking about shoes, and I'm incompetent, for something like say, Inori Yuzuriha, would it be okay if I heightened the shoe to a wedge? It'd keep the same shape, i'm not planning on going stripper heel or anything, but the shoe I'm planning to do it to is a good 4"-5".

The point is hooker heels where they DON'T belong.

>>6560734
Yeah, I could see those interpreted as a wedge since the art seems to be tapering off the foot as a stylistic choice. And even if she's standing on her tip-toes, there's still a visible wedge there.

fandom fights. some examples.

>taking it personally
Pic going around on Facebook: like for One Piece, share for Dragonball. I liked it, because though I like and respect Dragonball as a series, I do like One Piece more. Ignited a shitstorm of people taking it as an insult to their childhoods and personal beliefs. Got called a heretic and "lowered on the respect-o-meter". Just because you worship Goku as the messiah and I don't doesn't make me a horrible person.

>forcing it
"Hey, Warden, I just got done watching Soul Eater. You should totally check it out. I know you'd love it." Thanks, but I'm actually not interested in it. "No, seriously. You NEED to watch it. You'll love it and It's right up your alley. Just watch it." No, thank you. "No, seriously. You have to watch it. I won't stop bothering you until you do." NO means NO. if I want to watch it, I will. Until then, leave me alone!

>laziness
"Did you watch Soul Eater yet?" How about we make a deal? I'll watch ALL of Soul Eater if you watch either Casshern Sins OR Samurai 7. "Nah. I don't want to. Too many episodes."

Bitch, those two series combined have less episodes than Soul Eater and you would only have to watch one of them. If you don't want to hear anything about the shows I like then stop forcing the ones you like down my throat.

It's more of a rant than a large complaint, because I've only experienced this stuff among my group of friends. Just needed to get it off my chest.

Yeah I know how that goes. I fucking hate it. Though I think the worst is when you introduce a friend to a show, and they, uh, like it in completely the "wrong" way (eg. convince friend to try some Doctor Who, she's only interested in it for the fanfiction value and won't shut up about kinky porn fics she writes about it).

Ugh, when that happens it's the absolute worst. A friendship of mine ended due to one of these situations.

I'm sorry anon-chan I'm going to be one of those people. Well, I did a costume with some armour and all of it I sanded -except- the bracers. I did them in a different style (they were the first things I made) and couldn't sand them very well so they're all lumpy. But I have 6 other costumes to finish up in the next 2 weeks, so unless I finish them all first I'm probably not going to come back and re-do it.
I'm sorry, I've learnt my lesson for all future armour endevours

You mean, I'm not the only one like this?
As a kid, I always walked on tiptoes. Always. My parents took me to a doctor for it, I was given special shoes which prevented me from tiptoe-ing... and I found a way to anyway.

And now I can't wear flats without pain if I'm doing any walking.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one who can't walk in flats comfortably.

I tip toe too, just more comfortable for me.

>> No.6565051

Other than the general wrong shoes, wearing stripper heels and massive platform boots, I have to say the two thing that irks me on shoes are Sailor Neptune's who don't do her shoe straps and Sailor Mars' who don't wear red heels.

Asuka's who put the interface clips in wrong irk me too. I get art has depicted them at a rather odd and often time varying angles but backwards (the smaller end facing front or pointed up wards) is outright wrong.
