So I need advice without showing pictures because Im ashamed. Ive put on some weight over the last year. I now weigh roughly 150 and Im 5'2. I love to cosplay and want to cosplay Asuna from Sword Art Online. I dont look "fat" but God knows Im not skinny enough to be any anime character anymore.
Should I just not cosplay? Or should I just do it anyways. I worry people with make comments about me being too fat to be her.

I have a question about. . Noses. I have a very particular nose type, and I've never honestly tried to find a character that fits it. Are there any characters that would be well suited for someone with very dark eyes, pale skin, small lips, small chin, and a very long nose? My new year's resolution is to try cosplaying at a big anime convention, was thinking maybe of going to Anime Expo in July. I've never been to a legit anime convention so I want my first trip to be memorable.

The only problem is...I have no clue as to who/what I should cosplay. I don't keep up with newer anime. I mean, I've watched Bleach/Naruto, etc. all those "mainstream" animes but the last full series anime I watched was...Azumanga Daioh...and I watched that as a Freshman in High School (almost 10 years ago).

Basically, I'm just asking for tips as to what I should cosplay as.

No one's going to outright approach you and hate on you or anything, but there's been a general movement on /cgl/ the last while where we've wanted to start keeping western stuff at western-specific/general (anything goes) cons and anime stuff at anime-specific cons. It's not that one's better than the other, or we dislike one, it's just that if a con is marketed as an anime convention, you go there for anime stuff, so it's more appropriate to dress as an anime character, and vice versa for western cons. People aren't going to hate you, especially if the outfit is well-done. Yes, there's been a growing resentment of non-Japanese material at anime conventions, but that's mostly because it's gotten to the point where there's more Homestuck/My Little Pony/BBC/Adventure Time cosplay than actual anime cosplay. Something comparatively uncommon like a Stormtrooper won't elicit hatred. That being said, you could definitely give it a twist if you wanted to stand out - the samurai Stormtrooper is a great idea, or you could do something like a tokusatsu-themed Stormtrooper with a scarf and hen shin belt and whatnot.
