Painted on the star and sewed on the first round of lace. Now all that's left is to wait for more lace to come in the mail so I can sew that on too. Only one glove for the photo so I could take the picture. It has since been modified with conductive thread.
I can't believe I'm this close to being ready for Katsucon this early. It's kind of a nice feeling.

Cool armor design. Very nicely made and intricate.

If I was to criticize though I'd say it seems a little bit too 2-dimensional. Almost looks like it's some kind of papercraft. Protoss armor is usually pretty bulky and ironman-like but this seems kinda flat.

Thanks a lot! But yeah, I know. I tried to make it bulky, but failed since I just don't have the money and the right materials to build it like I wish. So I decided for a flat, more Wizard like design and hope, that people will see the Protoss by choosing a golden color and some glowing gemstones.

Athletes aren't the only ones who have sponsors. Chicks in pageants do too, and there's nothing sporty about that.
Anyone that can gain publicity could have a sponsor.

Cosplayers are less likely because they don't do public spotlight shit as often. Companies would rather hire models.

I'm just saying it's not unheard of, just really really rare. If Kamui did, say, only Cartoon Network cosplays, CN might sponsor her.

Cryptozoic doesn't sponsor us. We're employees, paid creating one costume for them in a year and work in it at their event. It's a pretty nice part time job, but not a sponsorship.
However a real sponsorship would be pretty nice. I often have problems because I'm not able to affort materials. At the end, I create my costume with a cheaper solution, but I would just love to try something new. Molding and castiing stuff, sculpting and so on. However I guess, I just live in a wrong country for a sponsership or even for a job which was something to do with costume creation.

>> No.6540318

>>6540305
If you can't make something properly you shouldn't be taking commissions. A corset isn't a corset without boning, and the rippling issue won't be fixed unless there is some kind of support from underneath. A belt may cinch it in but it will still ripple and rumple between it.

Unless the person knows they're getting a halfassed product, you should do your best and not sell yourself short next time.

You also can't make seamless tights without special machinery. Just buy a pair of fishnets, there's no point to making them. Unless you mean the boots, which should be made like boots... not tights.

Sorry, didn't make it clear, but also that dress form is smaller than she is and has rather odd proportions, hence the rippling. I can probably simulate the boning with steel wire, but at this point I'm not gonna invest into it any more than I've already spent, since that pleather didn't come cheap. And not sure if you're the same anon, but yeah, I actually am using spandex with a leather texture to it, I just wanted to be sure that taking off at least an inch off the measurements would be the way to go.

The really big zip ties are great in a pinch - even though you're not getting paid much, you still want it to be something you want your name attached to, right? Even a little extra effort will make a fair bit of a difference to your client's satisfaction and the ability of your work to pull in more work. Plumber's coil works well too - and honestly, even shitty plastic boning doubled up would do the job.

hahah I can see that now. Nah, it's not squashed, though I think part of why it looks that way is cause of the angle and that it's only the front half of the helmet. It's not an oversized one so it'll only fit my head and smaller sizes. I wanted to make sure it was snug to my head so I can look around freely in it. I'm not sure how I feel about this costume, ugh. I just finished the wig but haven't made any of the costume. It's for Ohayocon, so I have like ten days or so? Either way I feel a little silly. I'm so hot/cold on this. Sometimes I feel way too old to be a little kid like Ikki, and I want to cosplay something more mature, but then I go to a restaurant and they ask me if I need a kid's menu.

I mean a yellow jumpsuit isn't that flattering.

To make it harder, my kid brother is cosplaying Meelo. I've almost finished his costume. But it's weird. I can't really get into the 'groove' you know- where you just feel like you know what you're doing and the costume goes together well. It always just feels off while I'm working on it. I know what you mean, I was working on something a while back and only had two weeks to get it ready. I was in a rush and it felt really wrong the entire time I worked on it, I wasn't very committed to it and refused to style a wig or add details. I ended up finishing it on time but never wore it since I was so uncomfortable in the costume. (Which is odd since it was a character I liked and was well suited for - it was even a modest costume.)

Anyway, those hair buns look really cute, and if you do end up going with this I hope you'll post pictures! I haven't seen a Meelo or Ikki costume done, kudos on picking a few undercosplayed characters from an overcosplayed series. Sometimes things aren't meant to be - and cosplay is supposed to be fun, so don't push yourself into something you don't like working on! Good luck with the costume, I hope it all works out okay for you.

I've been thinking of doing a G.I-inspired Link for quite sometime now, and just found an old Army jacket in my attic, which I think would work perfectly for the tunic. I'm also going for a bullet belt, an army helmet with Link's hat on it, a skirt or kilt made of the same fabric that the army jacket is made of (or close to), some sort of leggings and steel toed boots.

it's obviously a long way down the road to completion, but since I'm ready to start i figured I might as well stop if something isn't right

In other words, I probably won't be going to Sakuracon at all this year, or probably any other cons. Almost everyhting that could possibly go wrong for me in the past year has gone wrong - Murphy's Law Enforcement seems to have it in for me. I'm probably not going to end up homeless, and I am managing to provide myself with food, so that's something at least. I'm still not sure if I'm going to be wearing the costume. I put together the shirt for Ikki last night and I looked a hot mess. I think the shoulders are too wide, sleeves too poofy, and I'm not sure if I want to bother fixing it, or if I'll have enough fabric from what I bought to do so.

if I don't wear it, no use in trimming the bangs. I'll just take it down and wash it off. I used the same wig previously for my Eleanor Lamb (little sister) cosplay and if I cut it I can't use it for that again.

my brother is definitely wearing that meelo costume though. NO ESCAPE.

I am super butthurt about the bottom two ruffles. Basically I bought all my satin on Joann.com and one of the colors I bought ended up purple instead of the pink I saw on my screen. Okay, buy new satin... they stopped carrying that line of satin on the website and the local Joann's in my area doesn't have any pink left. I had pink satin left over from a previous costume and it looked fine in person material and color-wise, so I gather and sew it in and then once I take these photos it's just blindingly obvious how different the materials are.

I plan on taking off the bottom two ruffles and at least loosening the gathers so they match the rest of them in size, but not sure what I can do about the fabric difference. Considering doing sheer fabric overlays to mask it if I can't find something more suitable on my next trip to Joann's. Also after seeing someone do the Reese's pleats really well, I want to find out how they did and see if I can re-do the ruffles to be more accurate to the movie.

I'm still working on the frame base thing for the hair attachment things, I ran out of craft foam to finish it. The cardboard will be covered it was just giving me a tube shape to work with the foam. I've just started on attaching the hair to the front piece. I'm starting with the longer pieces and I haven't trimmed it yet so thats why it looks odd. The clips are holding the pieces that are on the other side, its hard keeping the hair there with it being upside down and all. I might add another layer of hair as well.

Your craft foam base looks really haphazard, and if you don't even it out before you add more wefts, it's not going to take the shape you want. The key to doing ridiculous hairstyles like this is to make sure the base looks exactly like the reference, and THEN you can start putting wefts on. Don't depend on the wefts to make the shape you want!

It looks to me like you're just taking a big section of wefts and wrapping it around the shaft of your base. You should be doing one of two things: Either gradually layer up the wefts, or cut the fibers from the weft and make your own little wefts with fabric glue.

Pic related: although it's much smaller than your project, I used fabric glue on wig scraps to make this, on a base of wire, posterboard and felt.

Wonderflex glues on pretty everything which is out of plastic. So if your shield is out of clay, you'll have problems to fix it. I would recommend really to tense it over the shield at BOTH sides. IN addition Wonderflex has a little bit lower activation temperature than Worbla, so this can be the reason for your problem. But I won't use Worbla a material for sturdiness. Wonderflex is a much better choice for this job.

Very nice! The bangs came out excellently. However, is their any way to make the wrap stiffer? For me it's kind of floppy.

Thanks for replying Kamui. I don't think I clarified enough. The shield is made out of worbla, and on the back I added the wonderflex strips. Some are adhering well... other's not so much. I had to really force the wonderflex to adhere to the worbla (prior to bondoing). I finally had to heat up a metal tool and attack with the tool because my hands/heat weren't enough.

The clay that you saw on my first pic is bondo. You're right about the sturdiness, worbla while strong flexes a lot. The wonderflex and bondo have stopped the flexing quite a bit though.

Thanks again for responding.

this was before I changed the size of the wig, it stands up perfectly once I tightened the wraps, no mater what it is going to curve to the wrap because of the wieght of the hair (two 4 ft ponytails), I added a acrylic stick under the wrap as well to keep it as straight as possible.

Amazing! How'd you do the bangs? they look really clean and are standing up well.

I made a flat pony tail, sewed it into the right spot, made a wire frame to the top of each of those bangs, glued it in and then worked the hair in around them with ALOT of fabric glue and hairspray. I used some of malindachans guides on what material to use.

Actually I am making the same armor that you are making. I had a friend recommend me styrene, and it looks pretty cool. I bought it in black because its all that they had at the craft store around me, but you can get it in white also. I made a pattern out of paper then cut it outta styrene with scissors and then heat formed it together, I just need to glue it now.

Need a little guidance. I just finished sewing one of the dice for rabi en rose. I wanted to know before I start the other one, do you think this one is a bit too big? I dunno I feel like it is a little off, but it just might be me because I dont have the wig to sit it on top of yet ...
What is your opinion on the hair dice?

Ok, because I hate myself and I wanted more work to do. I decided Sunday that I would do a 1 week speed build for the con coming up friday.
My goal, N7 Amor from Mass effect. Now, this isn't the first time I've built the armor, so its not completely new to me.
Here's where I'm at now
All pieces are cut out minus the shins, shoulders and feet
Most peices are marked for dremel and panel line work
I'm getting straps after work to start attaching everything together and do final fitment.

Now everything as it is is what I generally call soft molded. I wanted to just get the basic shape untill I start strapping them all together.
After they are strapped I can see what needs to be pushed and pulled and molded to fit me better.

This is also just a huge fuckaround piece for me. I know I wont have the electronics in by Friday, which while a bummer is just realistic.
Still, couple more days and I'll be done.

and here is the arm, I'll pass on showing the lower body as there isn't much detail on them untill they get shaped and dremeled some more.

Also, the upper and lower chest will be seperate for better mobility. I have seen several people build them all as one section, which always confused me.

So I tried out putting the bunny ears I made on the necomimi, didnt work because they were to big. looks like I am just going to have to attach the ears to the wig and not wear necomimi under them. sad days indeed. Instead I am going to do what I did to my Jade Harley wig and see if there is a way to stick them through the wig wefts so the base doesnt show.

I see that it really looks like a bra... It might as well be since I had to put a wire at the bottom of the cup so it's basically a bra anyways..
I don't think I'll change it due to the fact that no matter what I do it will A. always look like a bra or B. make my boobs saggy mcsaggers
