Depends on who you're asking. I think it's a cute choice for a first dress. Though pink isn't flattering on me in the slightest. Anyway, it's bodyline, it's cheap, and if you decide to switch styles, it's not like you're investing tons of money into an expensive dress and not really care for it. Plus, why spend $300+ on a new dress if you don't even know if you want to get into the style?

As for used items, many if not most people strictly buy 2nd hand brand because of the costs. Just be sure to wash/dry clean your stuff when it comes in.

As far as a coord goes, get yourself something pink on the head like a bow, headband, a pink rose corsage would be really cute. Go with a basic white bodyline blouse and some white tights or otk socks (easiest to wear, go to sockdreams for cheap ones, but bodyline does carry them). Then some pink shoes. Bodyline has some pink shoes for about $20. Find a cute necklace and some bracelets (forever 21, charlotte russe, is a good place to find pretty and cheap jewelry, I've seen some pretty things in Claires but go for things that are more classy and not overly childish) and you'll be good to go, I think. It won't be the most impressive thing in the world, but for a first coord, it'd be cute.

>pink would be a bad choice for someones first dress

Because the color reflects the personality of the person wearing it. As you can see the ones that have more emotional or catty problems wear a very pink coordination. Not only that but the sort of looks you get from the general public is downright disgusting.

>never heard anyone say something like that.

Because you never met someone like me before? Hmmmm. OP should go for something like brown/greens instead of loud fluorescent blues/pinks. Does that send a shiver down through my spine

>implying I have a spine

Most people starting out in sweet buy lots of pink things since it seems appropriate to the substyle, but pink isn't flattering to a many skin tones so they end up selling them. The majority of sweet lolitas I know had a closet of tons of pink to start out with, but they've moved on to different colors now that they have more experience.

That's my guess, anyway.

Then you can get the replicas from taobao instead but pink is a terrible color to go on.

>2nd hand brand because of the costs

Also the associated headaches because nothing excites a new lolita to see yellow stains on the coord.

Pink is what drives lolitas into this ageplay zone that the majority of the public frowns on.

Oh really? You see when the person chooses that specific color she will look into more of that specific style of lolita. I am sorry that pink has fucked you over like a bad ex on crack and you've been so unfortunate to find cum stains on your brand but jesus christ calm your tits down. I want to see what kind of perfection you wore your first time wearing Lolita.

I wouldn't say it turns into an obsession. It turns into "oh fuck my whole wardrobe coordinates with these specific colors", and when you get into buying brand, it becomes hard to branch out until you sell all your shit and start over. Of course it does because they will be so involved in this particular brand/ color then they are most likely to repeat the same action for the next purchase. The problem is that Lolita is seen as a cosplay until something changes it will always stay like this. This ageplay costume that can turn off potential candidates with great personalities.

When it comes to sweet, I find pink and red to look better on warmer/yellow skintones (along with yellow), sax, lavender, and mint look good on cooler/rosier skintones. I had one pink OP and it just washed me out. I like to use pink as an accent color if it's in the print (blouse, socks, shoes), but I try not to use too much of it. It's a cute color but it can be overkill on some people.

While Libra seems horribly drunk, let me retranslate what she seems to be saying.

Black and neutrals are good colors to get into because they can go with anything and tend to look more normal, especially for everyday wear. Sweet uses bright colors, big poofy skirts and cutesy motifs in many prints, so it's often misconstrued as a costume, while Gothic and Classic tends to fade into the background a bit because it's more subdued.

It's better to buy brand because quality is nicer than Bodyline, but if you buy it second-hand you're running the risk of getting someone else's used clothes, so buyer beware.

Sweet is really common (and therefore maddeningly nauseatingly saccharine when surrounded by hoards of sweet girls). Namely, you've got bright pastels, and these are not present in Gothic or Classic. Pinks and blues tend to be more toned down and neutral in classic and gothic uses jewel tones. If you decide that you'd rather wear Lolita on an everyday-basis rather than just for special events, you may find sweet to be hard to break out of if you've built a wardrobe around it... especially as you get older.

However, in my opinion, if you are just breaking into it, like people have said, go with what you like. We all decide to change directions. Many people start with sweet and go from there.
