Those men are doing it wrong. All cosplayers should put on makeup. Not saying they need heavy eyeliner and crap, but foundation, primer, concealer. Those are important and not just for female cosplays.

One thing I've found is that there's a much greater learning curve available in female character designs. With guys, you're basically SOL if you want a nice simple costume that's doable and will teach you a lot - it's generally either suits and generic clothing you can buy in stores, or crazy armor and huge props that you gotta know your shit to do with any amount of respectability.

Whereas with female designs, there's a wide variety of simple clothing, easy skirts, simple dresses and whatnot that you can do starting out to make a recognizable cosplay without having years of sewing experience.

Getting into cosplay as a male is tough.
alot of what Op pointed out is true.
what ive seen is that most males do not come from backgrounds that lend themselves well to cosplay.
thus most males have to start from the ground up in building their knowledge base.
building that knowledge base is hard especially when there exists very little support or community to teach male cosplay tips.
For example OP pointed out that make-up is almost a non-factor for most males.
we have gone our entire lives without the use of makeup which means we must start from 0 in order to learn about it.
that's all well and good but the problem exists that there arnt too many places to go to find the answers to problems males might run into.
if you look at the make-up threads that sprout up here on cgl you'll find that its extremely rare for any of the posts to focus on anything a male might find useful.

For makeup I followed a very basic makeup tutorial when I wanted to crossplay. When I cosplay male characters I simply do the same bit but not add blush or eyeliner. My basic knowledge has allowed me to have an even skin tone and no blemishes for photos.

The only downside is that I don't know any advance techniques such as using eyeliner for male charcters or contouring my face for the more "bishie" characters

That isn't to say girls don't cosplay things they are fans of at all, but the two trend differently in reasons for dressing up. Women place far more weight in aesthetic value.

Males tend to cosplay obscure shit much more often than females.

Just an observation.

Cosplay favors girls, since there is a lot more good female cosplay than good male one (just look at the ration of female cosplays posted on /cgl/ to males).

In all the cases, it's all disruptive and such actions by all people should be reprimanded, but no one has stepped up and said anything because the minute you point out anything. Worst yet, they all have their private places where they all can connive, look at this stuff from their personal bubble and point and mock everyone up high.

Worst yet, all these actions that people do, no matter what, they don't realize that's whats really going to be the downfall of society. Not the violence, not the lies, not anything, it's society contributing to this ever increasing apathy. being bullied destroys your character and self-esteem, creating problems down the road.
It also effectively denies you of a highschool experience, which is supposed to be on of the most crucial(and fun according to some) times in a person's life.

When people hear about people who get bullied they think immediately of nerds who got bullied and made them selves rich somehow.
But what they ignore is the other group of people who may not be intellectual gifted, and will resort to cutting school or doing drugs to escape the living hell in school


I agree that shooting up schools is wayy to far and hyper monitoring of schools for bullying is a little extreme.
Something should be done to some extent about bullying.
