Hey /cgl/,

I want to make a corset for an upcoming cosplay, but I've never made one before and am not too sure where to start. Any tips/tricks/tutorials/pattern suggestions?

Also general corset thread, because corsets are awesome

>> No.6511724

Bumping, because I need a corset for an upcoming cosplay too. Making one is favorable to buying an expensive custom one, but I'll buy a custom one if neccesary.

What kind of shape are you looking for? Just a standard cinched waist for an hourglass look or something more period specific?

Here's the other corset thread with a lot of info in it. I don''t know if it's auto saging.

Those are from Nora Waugh's "Corsets and Crinolines", are they not? Have you seen "Waisted Efforts" by Robert Doyle? (It's kinda heavy on the basic-block approach, admittedly.)

This is pretty helpful in drafting your preliminary corset pattern. Once youve got your first mockup, you can make adjustments from there and then you should have a pattern that works well for your body.

Sewing corsets really isnt all that tough, its the fitting that gets complicated.

yes, do what drag queens do
foam pad the tits and thighs/hips and cinch the waist with a corset or shapewear

Reviving thread because does anybody knows what is the fabric on this corset called? Is it just cotton? It seems very comfty for night waist training.

Having made 3 corsets (one over bust Edwardian historical and 2 under bust that were just for show), here's what I've learned: Spiral steel everywhere, especially if you want to bring in the waist, featherweight is just going to be painful, especially if you end up tight lacing it. The area under the arms/armpits, set the channeling a little lower (I usually do about an inch) than on the sides, and make the boning it self about 2" shorter so you can put your arms down comfortably.
