Can we get a hair general thread going on?
One that includes tips and advice on overall haircare, cuts and colour?

I know there's a wig/hair general going on but it's annoying having to pick through the posts focusing wig advice.

I recently bleached the fuck out of my hair and whilst the condition is decent, a bit of brassiness still remains.

I've been washing my hair regularly with silver shampoo, but it really isn't changing a thing. My sister recommended that I try leaving the silver shampoo on for 30 minutes to an hour underneath some clingfilm and then washing it out.

Is this a good idea or not?

get it slightly damp, but not wet, and apply the shampoo similarly to hair color. except you can do it with your hands, no need for a bowl and brush. like section by section apply it and later it up slightly. just pack it in your hair, the more the better. leave it on for as long as you want. after the first like 20minutes check it every so often, 5-10minutes.

it's because you need another bleaching, that's why. If the yellow can't be taken out by violet shampoo or proper toner you haven't bleached enough. That saying, don't bleach for about a month or so and stop washing your hair so much. Only wash it once or twice a week (Depending on dryness) and use a hair masque 2 twice a week (preferably after your shampoo). Easy on the heat styling. Dry your hair on cool or luke warm, flat iron or curl on low heat. When you do this you will KEEP the quality of your hair when you go bleach it again in another month. Bleach once, maybe twice more (waiting minimum a month inbetween) use a toner or violet shamboo to take the brass out. Try also using Manic Panic vigin snow, it is an amazing violet dye that is harmless to your hair, makes it soft fluffy and will take out all brazzyness.

Well, the thing is, I didn't bleach my hair to white.
My hair was black, and I wanted to go back to my natural colour, so I stripped it and bleached it a few times until it was light enough to put a medium ash blonde on top; which is my natural colour.

Even after putting the medium ash blonde on though there's still a bit of an orangey, brassy hue to it that's particularly obvious in sunlight.

I'm using the silver shampoo to get rid of it, but it's not working.

>If the yellow can't be taken out by violet shampoo or proper toner you haven't bleached enough
absolutely not true. it doesn't matter what stage of blonde your hair is, violet shampoo can always take the brassiness out unless it's got certain things in it- like box color. in which case nothing will ever make it not yellow.

>Try also using Manic Panic vigin snow
only people who don't know what they're doing recommend Manic Panic. even people who have unnatural colored hair don't use it because it's just bad product.

ohhhh
oh

well, in that case, i recommend you go to a professional. silver shampoo wont help you here.
what you'll need is a "soap cap", followed by a corrective toner. it's not easy to do on your own and honestly the products you can get in person without a license wont be good enough anyway.
plus, since i don't know exactly how orange tinted you are i can't really say which toner to buy to cancel it out.

Paul Mitchell just released a curl line and it's amazing, there is a leave in conditioner that would be perfect for what you want.

i would recommend getting all three products, though. there is the leave in treatment, curl definer, and shampoo. i have seen people switch of other curl lines to Paul Mitchell's and it's just beautiful, like so much less frizzy. the curls look like they're done with a hot iron instead of natural from how little frizz there is.

OH MAN HE HAS A CRUNCH-FREE CURL DEFINER. I have been looking for this forever. My favorite drugstore brand of curling gel got discontinued and it was so simple. I just put it in my hair after washing it and my hair curled wonderfully and was frizz-free (even my mother was surprised.) His shampoo is sulfate free too and I do have to say that once I went sulfate free, my hair has been much nicer (the only sulfate shampoo I use anymore is head&shoulders because of now small dry scalp issues. And not even that often anymore.) I'll definitely look into this, thanks!

head and shoulders doesn't actually fix your problem, it masks it. literally.

what it does is coat your scalp in waxy product so the dry skin can't flake off- so if you switch to PM don't be surprised when your scalp flakes like a mother. not only is it getting the wax off, but all the dead skin that hasn't been able to flake off will come off as well. i'd wash it 3 times your first wash, just focusing 100% on the scalp to get as much off as you can.

Paul Mitchell has a moisture conditioner that would combo well with your Curl Shampoo.

also, using a cleansing shampoo once or twice a week if you use a lot of hair spray will also really help, Paul Mitchell's Shampoo Two is lovely. a bit minty, tingly, it removes all excess product build up from your hair.

i still recommend the Moisture line and Shampoo Two, but i think Redken's dandruff shampoo and conditioner is really good as well, like if you more have flakes and not really dry scalp. my little brother uses it and he has almost no flakes in his hair anymore, like he would have none if he just bathed every other day instead of every 4. boys will be boys, i guess.

Well, that sort of depends. If you get blunt cut bangs it will widen your face (and nose... or at least I feel it tends to) but if you have it cut with sides that frame your face it will lessen it and elongate your face a bit. Main thing is to not have them cut too far to either side.

your hair is still this brassy because you haven't lifted all of the black out of it yet. Your black partially lifted which left patches of it orange. Hair is stubborn, so even if you apply it all over some spots will lift easily and other spots will not. What spoony said about violet, silver shampoo, toner, dye being enough is wrong. If you do not lift all of the black and remaining color out it will stay orange. You need to see a professional to get these spots lifted. If you do too much at once, I have to worn you, it will destroy your hair. Make sure you are using a protein shampoo during this process and try not to use too many heat or damaging product.

Personally, I would look up a very high end hair salon in your area and sit down with a stylist there. It will cost you a pretty penny (a little more than brand) but if you don't know what to do with your hair a high end professional is a god send. I went to Fredrick Fakkai the other day because my hair was damaged beyond repair and they gave me an utterly beautiful cut, color, masque, treatment etc...my hair is flawless and it works so well with my texture and face shape that all I have to do is blow dry it and I'm out the door. My hair is very wavy and curly in some areas BTW. If you want truly stunning hair I recommend going to a true professional.

Eheheh, this is awkward because I am spoony.
Thing is, my hair is not patchy at all, it is all one even colour now. I'm not sure what route to take because I literally cannot afford to go to a salon full stop. It's not an option for me right now.

I don't understand how overlying the medium ash blonde didn't do the trick, but I don't know that much about hair colouring. It's supposed to be an ashy blonde, but it looks strawberry blonde, I thought the dye would cover this but obviously I was wrong.

smoothing products would be the opposite of body products. but there isn't really a magic way of getting your hair texture to dry differently. the only thing i can really think of is stuff that isn't practical for doing it at home. more or less curler sets, just different techniques.

keratin smoothing treatments would be my main suggestion, and are really lovely and last months, but can be expensive.

not everyone's hair can be pure white, and it will be very hard to keep up. the only people i know with long white hair are people who are very blonde naturally, like no darker than Kotakoti or people with a lot of hair extensions and not much of it being their own hair.

but it is a relatively simple process when you don't get into the specifics, bleach to pale blonde and then put in a toner. wash with purple shampoo every other shower. and do your roots every 3-6 weeks depending.

Alright, I need some help. The winter weather, cheap shampoo, and hard water in the area is making my usually healthy hair get nasty split-ends. I've had them trimmed since loliday, but even after getting them trimmed and changing shampoos, I still get a lot of split ends; I also dislike that my shampoo/conditioner is making me lose a lot more hair in the shower than usual. I'm currently using the CVS version of Organix's Argan Oil (shamp, cond., leave in cond., and hair serum).

I can't tell if my hair dresser did a bad job getting my ends trimmed, or if the ends just kept splitting, drying, and losing color regardless. Also, any suggestions for moisturizing hair products? I'm starting to hate the stuff I use now.

Right now my hair is somewhere inbetween a light and medium blonde, while my roots look almost dark blonde. I was leaning towards either Revlon Colorsilk's Dark Blonde (number 61, I think) or Garnier's foam dye since I've heard they fade easier than other dyes, that way if it comes out too dark I might not have to reach for color stripper or bleach. Any recommendations on box dye though, or would I be good with Revlon? I don't mind buying online, but I'd prefer to be able to pick it up at a store so I can look at the box in person. would work on short hair, but it'd be harder to take big sections and smaller sections will give you a much tighter curl pattern

so your options are to do that on a really low heat setting and take smaller sections, or a high heat setting and then weigh it down with a smoothing serum or something or just run your fingers through it a bunch to loosen it up
or take the big sections and just be really careful when you get closer to your scalp
or do it heatless and just let it air dry for an hour or so
lots of options ~

oily hair can be from drying your scalp out too much which is what it sounds like is happening - your scalp produces MORE oil because you dry it out so much to try and stop the oil and it becomes a vicious cycle.

If you are prepared to put up with oiliness, try the moisturising shampoos and stick with them (at least 2 weeks) for a while to see if it makes a difference

chin length is long enough, a bit shorter can be okay too but you want a few solid inches. until your hair is long enough to weigh itself down you will have little flip outs and such. so straight styles will look kind of weird unless you're really really careful about your flat ironing beforehand.

i don't really like Sally hair, like it used to be pretty good but i feel like it's gotten worse over time.

i always sew my own clips on as well.

I have naturally dirty blonde hair, but I have been dying it black for about a year now. Well over time this has really damaged my hair and I want it to go back to my natural color. Is there a way to dye it back without bleach? I heard bleach can really damage your hair and that's what I'm trying to avoid... but normal dye won't do much on black (well, more of a dark brown at the moment) will it?

Use a color stripper like Color Oops or Color Zap. I know color zap has some bleach in it but it'll bring you back to your original color quicker. I've used color oops before and it worked (pretty brassy and dry after wards just deep condition it). Also, throw out the color oops IMMEDIATELY after you use it. I didn't think the smell was as bad as other reviews said--its a sulfur and lemon smell.

there is absolutely no way to get your natural color back. like, if you were in my chair right now asking for blonde i'd tell you to pick something else or go somewhere else.

it is next to impossible to get to blonde from black, especially if you're hair already feels damaged.
when i did this my stylist literally told me most of my hair would fall out, and it did.
pic related, it felt like straw, and shortly after i had to cut it all off to about 1 inch because it continued to melt off.

I love pastel-colored hair as it looks on models and when freshly dyed. But I've seen one too many girls whose hair dye has faded leaving this ugly muddy hue of whatever color itr was supposed to be. Bright pinkish/purplish hues look horrendous on girls with noticeable redness too.

I really want to dye my hair a pretty pastel color but I don't want to spend a fortune on upkeep and my face is almost always bright red and the the only good cover up I could find is a couple shades darker then my skin and leaves a yellow cast. I don't think bright hair will pair well with it.

Question: Hair is a dark blonde naturally but I dye it a lighter blonde. Roots turned out slightly lighter compared to the rest of the hair. What would be the best way to tone out the two differences. Just a heads up, hair likes to go gray/green so ash is out of the question. Would a purple shampoo do the trick?

>> No.6512704

>>6512575
Purple shampoo only works to neutralize unwanted yellow tones in the hair. It sounds like your issue is one more of lightness than unwanted color, so toning would not be effective. I would just dye your roots with a color that matches the rest of your hair instead.

Screw Sally's extensions. They raised the prices of a lot of their garbage about $10-20+ - and it's still garbage. If you're doing it yourself, I highly recommend buying an 100g weft from eBay, depending on the color/length you want it can be fairly inexpensive. If you have black or brown hair, and want 12"-16" extensions, it will be fairly cheap. If you want a light color (especially platinum) and long (I personally wear shade #613, 20" long) you'll pay $50+
I personally started out at a lower quality human hair weave to get the hang of it, then once I was used to it I spent more.

I also can't strongly recommend enough to watch a ton of videos on youtube about sewing in clips to a weft, or bonding/gluing if you want to go that route. I suggest clip ins to start out with, to get used to the weight and look. Extensions are super duper easy to learn about and I've been wearing them in various forms for years now. I've cut them, dyed them, dreaded them, whatever you can think of. good luck!

I'm a trip from /r9k/ but before you lash out at me, I post anon on /cgl/ because it's not my place to trip here, I'm just too tired to take my trip off (I'm on my phone and it's 6 am and I'm barely staying awake) so yeah but pretend I'm writing this anon

I actually like it when Spooky posts with her trip on when I lurk because she actually seems to know what she's talking about and in a thread with a lot of conflicting opinions, it's nice to hear from someone whose advice has worked for me in the past. It's kind of like insurance, bc she's responsible for what she says, and she's usually v helpful so I can always look to her if there is misleading info in the thread

/cgl/ has a lot of disinformation, even in cosplay threads (unrepeatable vendettachans) so the trips are nice because you actually know who to trust and who has been to meetups and isn't just a male neckbeard vendettachan writing from his mom's basement

But yeah

Both are represented. I'm a lolita, I posted here with some lolita appropriate hair styles I've picked out for aid as to which would suit me. In fact, if you are on this board, you probably wear lolita or J-fashion if you're not a cosplayer or here for the drama. Therefore, a large portion of the people posting in this thread must wear lolita or J-fash. Therefore, this thread is relevant because we wear these fashions and want our hair to fit in with our look.

And hair is part of a coord.

Also, that's bullshit, J-fash is Japanese Fashion because it ORIGINATED there, not because everybody who wears it is Japanese. By that logic, because cosplay originated in Japan, anybody posting about it who isn't Japanese is irrelevant.

You're talking out of your ass and looking for drama. If you have such an issue, email the big man. Don't derail threads, especially if you're going to claim you're not attention whoring. Last I checked, taking over a thread by being a petty asshole counted as attention whoring.

I think nobody should trip, there is a reason why 4chan is anonymous. It makes the website what it is.

Other anon who replied to me (I can't quote your post bc mobile 4chan sucks): I was talking about Spooky, the makeup girl, not Spoony, that one shitposts and derails too much. Too tired to write more but trips are useless for boards with a large amount of disinfo (like cgl). >>6512918
So you believe that if people dress in lolita or cosplay then they have carte blanche to talk about anything they want no matter how off-topic it might seem since their lolita status means everything they speak about pertains to lolita.

I'm sorry, but 4chan doesn't work that way. Boards are seperated into categories specifically for posting images and discussion about said topic. You only "imply" a topic if you are talking about it. If this was a thread about japanese fashion, japanese fashion would have been references somewhere. You're simply using that as a convenient excuse to turn /cgl/ into some kind of generalistic women's help magazine.

I didn't say that. I stated that hair is relevant to lolita. Which is part of this board. Scroll up and read the header; Cosplay & EGL. Like I said, if you don't wanna share, fuck off and make your own board.

This thread is about lolita and Japanese fashion because hair is an important part of the coord. It is related. A majority of the images posted are lolita and J-fash appropriate. The people posting wear these fashions and want hair that works with the fashion.

Why don't you go shit up the threads that are actually off-topic like those "tfw no gf" threads? You might hate lolita and J-fash but they're relevant and they've got every right to be posted here. Not responding to anyone in particular, but you can totally go from black to blonde - very, VERY slowly and carefully. And be prepared to spend outrageous amounts of money and time babying the absolute shit out of it.

Seriously, I have naturally black hair and very gradually lightened it bit by bit down to white. It is great condition - BUT my hair regimen is outrageous. I can't really recommend it.

Wash with cold water, just once or MAYBE twice a week. Kerastase or Redken All Soft Heavy Cream masque - 20 minutes twice a week. Absolutely absurd amounts of Redken/Argan oil serum, almost no blow drying except when it's almost all the way air-dried. Argan oil spray for every single section as the hair is being blow dried. One pass per section, never more. Satin pillow case, special brush. No swimming, ever.

I too don't understand people saying it's not possible to do it and not have your hair end up falling out when I did it just a couple of weeks ago. It is doable, but it has to be gradual and you have to do a fuck tonne of treatments as you said. Every time I did something, anything, be it a basic dye to level things out or a small Hydrogen Peroxide treatment I would slather my hair in a deep conditioning treatment afterwards and leave it overnight.

I don't think it'd be a very good idea to go from black to platinum, but a natural blonde is very doable.

i recently just went from a light brown with red in it to blonde and had the same problem. Make sure you're taking a shit ton of biotin, use a hot oil or deep conditioning treatment at least twice a week, and only blow dry your hair with cold air (this helps to make the cuticle lay flat so it isn't frizzy). you don't have to bleach your hair again. if anything keep using the violet shampoo and if it isn't doing anything, find a semi-permanent color (like a 10V) and put that on your hair and that will help to get any of the remaining gold tones out.

And I'm sure all of those dye jobs over the years are all for the sake of Japanese fashion, right?

Since this thread is supposedly about J-fashion, that means you're doing all this for J-fashion, correct?

Aw. Yeah, it's not cheap :/ Your hair looks fantastic in that photo though, wish I had gone silver - but I'm technicolour now and going back to natural next.

Oh no, that's not my hair haha
It's just some girl from a blog I follow. Her hair is what tempted me to dye it though.

I don't think this thread really has anything to do with j-fashion. Cunt/Spoony just used that as an excuse to post whatever topic she wanted to talk about.

What kind of beef do you have against threads that help others? I always participate in these threads because I end up learning so much from them.

What the hell is your problem?

We're only supposed to talk about cosplay, lolita and j-fashion. Because learning how to take care of and style hair doesn't help with any of those things. Apparently.

This board is for the topics of cosplay and lolita. If you're just generally interested in "helping people" then go to /adv/.

If you were actually interested in those things you'd have mentioned it somewhere. Quit with the bullshit.

Anyone got any henna tips? I know Lush was rec'd in the past, but I don't have one open near me at the moment (and the one near school in under renovation) so I was wondering how Rainbow henna is?

Not looking for henna-red hair btw, I have black hair and will either just make it more black (or get the burgandy for a tint.)
