A friend and myself are trying to gather people for a group, but getting 13 dedicated people who don't mind being hairy men and researching up on each of their character specific costume details is going to be a challenge. I'm having a tough time finding great references to assist with that, but I figure it might just be because the movie just came out.

Eowyn is one of my favorite characters but I have BLACK hair and blonde hair would, look ridiculous on me. I'm not really a huge fan of Arwen, I've never liked elves and I prefer fighters. LOTR is my favorite thing ever, yet I can't really cosplay from it.

Actually, come to think of it, there's a pretty decent amount of women in the universe, they just tend not to show up ad much in LotR/The Hobbit. Especially if you count the Valar, Yavanna and Varda have about the same amount of characterization as any of the male Valar, and Varda/Elbereth gets referenced constantly in LotR

Galadriel, Arwen, Eowyn, Luthien, Morwen, Nienor, Idril, Elwing, Melian.... There's not as many females as males, but I mean, when they do show up they tend to have important parts. There's plenty of male characters in the Silmarillion they have a name and nothing else to go by.

(Now I want to find people and get a extended universe group to happen for like, Gencon. It probably won't happen, not enough of my cosplay friends are into Tolkien :()

Still, like I said, there is the issue of them sharing a lot of features, but with some creativity it could be done.... the men in Tolkien tend to get like, one descriptive line too, they just get bigger accessories.

Elrond probably was nervous about the ring for the same reason Galadriel was nervous about the ring; sure he could have gotten his hands on it, but he wouldn't have been able to throw it away, and him having it would have been much more terrible than Isildur having it.

From what I've seen in interviews, both are very well spoken and polite. They're very good to their fans which garners more of them to be obsessive. Tolkien forgot they existed. They were there in the Hobbit because Tolkien was stoned, drunk, or just wanted to get whatever chapter he was on over with and wrote in Giant fucking Eagles coming in to save Bilbo and the gang. It was a Children's novel after all.

In the Hobbit, the Eagles probably didn't want to deal with a GIANT FUCKING DRAGON that would be living in the Lonely Mountain. Even though he hadn't been seen in a while, would you really want to risk being turned into KFC for a bunch of Dwarven gold (which you have no use for)

And yeah, I know they take out the fact that Sam had to pretty much mind-fuck a couple statues for them to get into Mordor, but let's take into account that they would have to fly RIGHT past Barad-dur, and the Nazgul, by the point in the story that they could leave Rivendell, were on fell beasts.

The lazy writing is on PJ's side, not Tolkien's.
