I love fur sometimes, but how can I be sure it is faux? No way in hell I'm buying real fur, however, onde day I bought a chinese scarf that was "faux fur", but in the end was really real.

Is there anyway I can buy faux fur from online stores/brands that are sure faux?

A lot of lolita brands use faux fur anyway, but I guess the only way you will know for sure is to buy in the west as a lot of Chinese will use real rabbit fur. Generally, if the fur is unnatural colors then it's more than likely fake. You can sometimes tell by just looking (unnatural sheen, not a very natural way of sitting etc.).

I'm a vegetarian but I still wear leather boots, most boot-leather comes from cows and sheep where I live, and those animals get killed for food anyway, so it's more like not being wasteful. It's so strange to me when I moved from Hong Kong to UK and found people were really against real fur and it's quite hard to buy items of real fur. I mean you can buy leather products everywhere and I even found a store that sells only leather items, yet no one is protesting about that. Isn't it the same thing? It's still the skin of something that was once alive. I don't understand at all.

It's because cows aren't cute and fluffy. People keep rabbits and other furry animals as pets so they see fur and associate it with their pets. Cows just aren't cute enough for most people to care about leather.

I think it's quite easy to determine faux from real. You should be able to see the knit showing through the fibers when you spread them apart for fake. For real, there's the undercoat and then you should be able to see the skin/leather.
I own real pelts and faux, I think the difference is obvious.

Well actually it's because leather is a byproduct of the cow, people kill them for their meat first, then their skin. It doesn't have anything to with them not being fluffy or cute, plenty of people still hunt and kill rabbits for their fur.

I think cows are cute though, they have such lovely big, wet eyes.

Also, Hong Kong girl, the difference is because their are no laws against animal cruelty in China so people are free to do as they please with animals, which includes stripping the skin off of a live animal like a sock whilst it's still wriggling and in agony. Most people find this to be a vile, abhorrent act.
At least with the majority of cows they are put down with a bolt before being "processed".

But every vegan I have encountered, irl and online, have been super preachy and on their high horse constantly, shoving their beliefs and horrifying pictures of animal cruelty down peoples throats. I'd like to have non-morale vegan friends, vegan food is epic, but in my experience they are unicorns. Didn't mean to make you sad, I was just speaking from experience.

This is the singularly best outfit thread I've come across, I never knew I liked fur so much. (I think it's more that I like Classic and wintery outfits, but fur collars are extremely flattering to most people)

Don't know why anybody is defending China, it's a an shitstain of a country. I stopped by Hong Kong for two weeks last year whilst I was travelling and personally saw firsthand the dogs and cats crammed together in tiny cages and being left to suffocate and starve on markets. The cages were piled on top of each other so if one of the animals needed to shit or piss it would land on the ones in the cages below them. The whole place reeked of the stench of ammonia and death, it was extremely hard to just walk past and try to ignore the immense suffering surrounding me.

Of all the countries I've traveled to the people of China are the rudest, vilest and most lacking in empathy. It's very much a me, me, me country and in my experience the Chinese don't care who they have to hurt to get what they want. I would not go there ever again.
