It doesn't, though. I've been browsing here for like...five years and I have NEVER seen someone ask for a bio on a character. I have on occasion seen people ask for advice on constructing a costume where they admit they haven't seen the series because a friend asked them to join a cosplay group. That happens sometimes. It's not the same thing as "this character looks cool, I'm gonna cosplay it without watching the show!" the closest I've seen would be "this character is adorable, I might have to watch this so I can cosplay from it."

So if a comic artist designs a female counterpart to a male superhero, and gives her the same basic design only sluts it up, and a girl wears an exact accurate recreation of the outfit, that's fine. but if a female counterpart to a male hero doesn't exist in canon and a cosplayer makes her own design, where she takes the original design and sluts it up, and then wears it....she's a big giant attention whore.

You ask who Tony Stark is, he's a "genius playboy billionaire" who also happens to fight off evil in a high-tech pricey full-body suit that happens to protect him.
