Homestuck fandom hasn't really got much of a grasp on it yet. Which is odd, because Hetalia fandom was big into CMVs and a lot of that fandom migrated to this one.

I think it's probably because Homestuck fandom is mostly teenagers with no access to decent equipment.

I think it's just a badly fitted costume. The skirt length is strange and it sits too low on her hips, whereas the shirt is barely fitted and very loose around the shoulders, giving her a linebacker look. If you took away the props on this costume (which look good from afar but up close look like they're haphazardly hot-glued together?) and just looked at the cosplay itself, it's a pretty bad attempt at Roboradia...

It looks like she uses foundation to cover the edges of her lips and paints her lips much smaller so they will fit the jaw. Look at the shadow around the lips, she is hiding a fair amount of her real lips to make it look less drastic.

Self post, sort of, sorry. I'm nearly finished with all my planets. I was hoping to do a giveaway of some sorts but I just really love all the planets.

I need to finish cleaning up some and add a couple more layers but for the most part, they're almost done.

If I'm not mistaken, those are also the WeLoveColors striped stockings, which are notorious for having a tight fit unless you've got stick legs. That also means that if they are the WLC ones, that girl is going to have to use some MAJOR sock glue, sock tape, or garters, because even if she pulled them up that high, those stockings are NOT going to stay there with that kind of fit.

Why Fem Dave? I mean, to each their own, I've just never understood the fascination with genderbending characters for no particular purpose.
Just get a female cut suit (skirt or pants, whatever she wants), nice wig, glasses, maybe some small heels. It's not exactly a hard costume in the first place, but since it's not a canon design she can do whatever she wants.

Just as some guys don't want to dress up as girls, done girls don't want to dress up as guys. There are stigmas attached to crossdressing (although I would say the stigma with a man dressing as a woman is greater).

I wouldn't even say it's a 'fascination' with genderbending. Some people simply prefer to dress as one gender over the other, and that shouldn't stop them being being able to cosplay a character or design that they like.

i did nothing but stand in front of the camera (and complain about mosquitoes) when i was rose in the rise up video, but i scripted and directed both metamorphose and crystal ball. both videography and editing on all three videos were done by the fine gentlemen that filmed them. so to answer your question, i would say that the latter two videos are like my joint-custody children with the videographers when it comes to amount of work shared haha

Collect them! She had little Index cards and paper. It took people a little while to catch on to what she was up to.

They'd write: "To John" and then tell her which John (either by pointing/describing them- like The Tall John Holding The Zillyhoo with The Vriska) or, sometimes, just saying "Any" John. and let her choose. This was great, because this particular girl sought out cosplayers who were a bit shy and delivered the random letters to them.

Fold a paperboat (not in newspaper though), bring a few pens, ask people to write their ships on the boat (ship..........).

I did this at a local con (although outside cosplay) and it was a lot of fun and a great icebreaker. I had red black and blue pens for ships that were canon, not directly canon and just plain crack respectively.

Should be noted that this was at a smaller convention in northern Europe, and it seems like drama is way less likely to stir up in here than at a lot of american conventions. Be careful as of not to start any shipping wars.

Everyone reacts differently to their piercings. I can keep mine in for months and have no problems. But there are times where if I take them out for a few days (to cosplay), when I put them back in they sometimes get infected and painful.

I don't know for the life of me why, and I've tried everything in the book to stop it from happening. All its left me with is a lot of jewelry I can't wear and less money in the bank.

Other people have piercings that heal up fast as fuck. I've had piercings in my ears for over four years, and I've had times where I've had to repierce them after having my earrings out for less than a week.

So there you have it. Some people may not be able to take them in and out without infection or having them close up.

Eh, I don't think so. From what I've seen, coloured contacts are still one of those details that most people don't do. I know I, personally, don't do them because my eyesight is bad enough that I can't find coloured contacts in my prescription. Nah, depending on on the lens, some have GREAT visibility in shit lighting. Example, Venus Eye Bright Reds will show up even in shit denny's-at-night lighting, pic related.

But at the same time, I also don't think they should be a requirement at all. I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford lenses, and to not have any conditions that prevent me from wearing them. I'd rather have someone skip lenses and photoshop the color in later rather than purchase lenses without researching or from a disreputable source, or have some other medical mishap occur and have their vision be permanently fucked up just for wanting to look more "accurate."

As a general design up for cosplay consideration, this could work really well if extreme, meticulous attention to detail were given with regards to notions, accents, fabric choices with regards to drape and texture, etc. If not....

For a design like this, there really is no middle ground. It'll either be spectacular or a train wreck.

Mookie mentioned being influenced by the style of Granado Espada, so at least that part is coming across. I think Kanaya's looks better and is more cohesive than Rose's - particularly the hip lace and weird fabric drape with the hanging gem, the bodice that makes no sense, and especially the crisscross of yellow fabric across her crotch (which will be difficult to translate not-awkwardly).

I second everything that you said with meticulous attention to every detail. Well-done Granado Espada costumes are beautiful, and MF needs to learn that you need to invest serious time and thought into something this complex to represent the design well.

Well, no. She has an enviable body and picks (or modifies) designs to show that off, and she has good photographer friends who can shoot and edit her to flatter.

Look at the area up her left side and explain what is going on. The lace, too, while pretty and decent quality, is an unfortunate design modification that looks tacked-on and applied at the last second in an attempt to make that dress "stand out."

The real issue is she made too many conflicting decisions. If you have a dress with the back that low, you need a tighter waist section. Alternatively, most halter-top dresses have a looser waist measurement. She took the idea of a halter with a low dipped back, and it ended up looking horribly. It's not that the construction was exactly that terrible, it just had too many ideas that didn't match.

She does seem pretty proficient at making tight, form-sculpted outfits (like her bunnysuits), but she still has a fair amount to learn about fancyifying things.
Also, since her forte lies in making her body look good, her cosplay "signature move" is to make everything tight or oversexed, which doesn't work with some characters or seems overdone after a while (see: nurse Roxy, racer Kanaya, bunny Kanaya, god tier Vriska's shirt, and the impractical heels on her normal and god tier Roxy).
She could be good! if she slowed down her production rate to focus on actually becoming a better tailor and nailing down details that people get nitpicky about (Porrim's garish metallic green leggings).

To answer your question, yup! I'm gonna try and do a tutorial on what I used and the dry brushing which is what took the most time. Especially with the checkerboard since that was all pretty much eyeballed, slow as hell and done with a REALLY steady hand.

I can give you some advice on what i'm doing for my Fefetasprite cosplay, if that helps. I'm one of the couple of pro-seamstress anons (the one that critiqued MF's Porrim a few threads back) and although ive yet to make the mockup to see how this works ive got some things in mind.

Basically what i'm going is a dress, which will be fairly tight until it hits my low hip, where it'll flat out into a skirt that's front hem just hits the ground with the shoes i'll be wearing. Then i'm going to add an even train on the bottom. The problem that >>6479323 had was that their train wasn't anywhere near wide enough to accommodate it's length. My train will be starting about at the quarter seams in the front and gradually grow longer as it goes around.

Now, the thing with this is it's gonna be hell at conventions so here's a tip for ALL sprite cosplayers. There's a trick that a lot of wedding dresses with trains do, which is there's a little tucked away elastic band either at the end of the train, or near it. This band is to be put around your wrist to hold your train up while you walk so you don't have to sling it over your arm. Mine will be about a foot before the end of my train, so when i'm at conventions my skirt will be pulled up and slightly to the side, with a little hanging off my wrist like the end of a sprite tail! Easy to walk and move without people stepping on it and nice to pose with as long as you don't pull to much and make it bunch awkwardly on the other side of where you're holding the train. Easy to let down too, if someone wants a picture in a pretty empty hallway where you won't stop traffic. Then I can let it down for private shoots, and with the design of the dress and skirt for it, it'll be easy to tuck my feet into the skirt sitting or keep my feet hidden if standing.

Anyone else have any questions for me while i'm feeling helpful in my once in a while venture onto HSG? anyone want constructive critiques?
