so question - cyperous vs gabalmania/gabalnara vs taobao wigs?

>> No.6468299

>>6468279
Cyperous is best, they're really amazing quality and look very natural. They are heat resistant, you can backcomb them and still restore them to their previous state, they really are fantastic wigs. Gabalmania/Gabalnara have some lovely wigs, and some really good natural wigs that look realistic. However, I have heard some issues of the fibres splitting on some wigs that seems to be down to a quality control issue. They do great half wigs and hair pieces. Not as nice fibres as Cyperous, but still good quality for the money (unless you get a bad batch). Taobao wigs vary with each shop so I can't really answer that question unless you have a specific shop in mind.

Is Cyperous easier to care for compared to Galbalnara? I have been sticking with cheap wigs because I don't know how to do proper upkeep. If i get 3-5 wears out of a wig that cost less than $30, I can deal with that. But not for a $60-$80 wig.

/CGL/ where can one get good lace front wigs suitable for a cosplay of Noin? I want to avoid dying the wig if possible, and I really want to slick the hair back like she does to keep it accurate so I know a lace front is needed. Arda has some lacefront wigs, I have no personal experience with them but you can look at their gallery to see people who have bought them and how they look IRL. Not to mention that their prices for their lacefronts are VERY reasonable. I paid about $65 for a medium lacefront from ebay (one that catered to black women) and I was disappointed in how thin it was in the back and on top. I would think that Arda wigs wouldn't have that problem since their wigs generally have lots of wefts.

Vouching for cyperous as well, I bought a cyperous wig when cosplay.com was selling them (for that very short time) so I got a good deal. It is the most gorgeous wig I own and it still looks like it did when I bought it 3 years ago.

Pic related, it the style I got (not this exact one, the one I got is discontinued but it looks pretty much like this)

Reading through the previous thread made me google to see if anyone had more pics of that one wig of Chokelate's, the mermaid prism. Found this review:

The wig in that girl's pictures look pretty much like how the wig looks on the lockshop website (like the blonde looks platinum, not yellow). So I don't think that Choke is misrepresenting her merchandise, if people googled for reviews and customer photos. Just a thought. I think it would be cool if Choke added a page like Arda has for customer photos so shoppers can see candid, everyday photos of the wigs.

I randomly got clip in bangs on ebay for a dollar, and I have to say that it was very convincing and blended into my own hair (dark brown/black) very well. It's only a dollar so maybe it's worth a gamble.

Amazon seems to have a few of the same wigs/sellers as ebay, but generally the prices and the shipping are marked up for quite a bit.

>> No.6469141

Have any of you fuckers even seen the lockshop wigs in real life? They're shiny as all fuck; especially the darker styles. I've gotten better quality from taobao.

The only thing they have going for them is a realistic part instead of the little point skin top on some styles, but still; I would not pay that amount for any of them. They photograph well in the right light; that is all.

Is it possible to dye blonde wig fibres to brown and have it look natural? I really want one of those clip in fringes, but they seem to come in black, very dark brown, or blonde. I have mousey brown hair, sort of like Dakotas, and none of them look like they'd match.

To reply the last post in the previous thread: Wig caps that are like a fishnet with an open top are best. They easier to hold your hair and you can use pins. (U-shaped ones are best like I mentioned last thread)

The cap I got from GLW last time was like pantyhose for a leg stump and looks kind of useless. Do people actually use those?

The pantyhose style ones are pretty common. I find they each serve their own purpose.

Usually if someone asks "Is that your real ___?" then that means it looks really good to the point where they think it has to be fake. I have naturally bright green eyes and I get asked a lot if that's my real eye color. If something is obviously fake then people don't even bother to ask if it's real. If you're wearing a Party City wig, no one is going to ask if that's your real hair. If you're wearing something like OP's wig where it's just incredibly realistic looking but styled so perfectly, people are going to ask if it's real.

>> No.6472226

>>6472214
... You don't seem to understand. The reason they are asking, specifically 'Is that your real hair?' is because there is doubt that it is indeed real, so they have to ask. Not sure how I can explain it better for you... It means there is something unrealistic about either the color/hair style/look of the fibers. Granted, I understand you're saying that they are saying it as a compliment, but in reality it is spurred because the hair does not look believable as real hair.

Not talking about lolitas. Talking about people who wear out medium tier wigs and then post in these threads saying that random strangers asked if their hair is real. It is MEANT as a compliment, but understand, the question is asked because there is something unbelievable about the hair, so instead of 'Where did you get your hair done!' you get 'Is that your real hair?' because it's moved into the unbelievable range. Like I said before, people don't (usually) ask 'Is that your real hair!' when you have really nicely done hair... they ask you where you got your hair done.

Agreed, they won't ask if it's your real hair if it actually looks like your real hair. When I wear my Cyperous wig I get compliments like "I'm so jealous! I just can't get my hair to curl like that" or comments like "how long does that take you to do every morning?" but when I've worn other wigs like my Lockshop one or my mid-tier ebay ones, I'll sometimes get asked if it's my real hair or not because you can tell the person is pretty sure it's not your real hair but they don't want to sound stupid and ask outright if it's a wig.

Is there a reason you can't buy from taobao? Some sellers (especially wig shops) allow direct sales, so you don't need a shopping service or anything. Taobao is a marketplace with lots of shops. Loads of those shops sell the same wigs Lockshop and Coscraft also have. They probably all buy from the same factories.

If more than one fishmonger sell fish from the same catch, would you say just one of them bought their fish from the fishermen, and everyone else is buying from him? That would be an idiotic way to do business.

tl;dr, more than one shop sells coca cola

There are so many different factories, while I don't doubt many use the same type of fibre, there is such a tiny chance that they all happen to purchase from one, that it's highly doubtfull that you will find a Taobao seller that sells from the exact same factory as either of those stores. There is a store on Taobao that used to be the supplier for GLW, but like that, most wig stores on Taobao are actually factories themselves.

Ditto on Arda's fibers being a bit rougher than other fibers, and there are other companies that match their fiber in quality and texture.

The wigs are my go-to mainly because of their thickness and resilience, and because they fit my head comfortably. A combo of thick hair (even when short) and a head larger than what the standard taobao/ebay fare will fit makes most other brands a bit uncomfortable on my head.

TLDR, if you can fit taobao/ebay wigs comfortably, go for it because there are some decent quality wigs in great colors out there for absolute steals. If you have a larger head or simply like a looser fit for your wigs, wait for one of Arda's sales.

Dry shampoo and talcum powder (baby powder) reduce the shine when you give the wig a very slight dusting. You can usually find them in the health and beauty sections of a grocery or drug store. Hey /cgl/, I've looked through my collection of faithful Taobao sites with gradient wigs and I couldn't find a wig I liked enough for IA -aria on the planetes- (pic related)

I'm looking for a mixed dusty white+soft pink wig (with or without a gradient, since some artworks shows it and some don't) or something that gives that ethereal look. Something like this in terms of fiber color but longer http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.3.0.91.rOKLUr&id=16075170890&

Any ideas?

Can someone help me out?

I'm going to have to buy a couple of wigs (around 10 for myself and friends) and I was wondering if buying from taobao or ebay would be cheaper all in all?

I'm thinking taobao because I get to gather them all together but does anyone have specific experiences with this?

taobao most likely. ebay you'll have to pay for individual shipping (unless the shop is willing to combine them but you should ask how much it'd all be first).

If you're unable to find a store that sells one, you could probably just use a Chi wig and then dye it. But that is probably just a last resort thing. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks for replying! I just thought that taobao would me more expensive because of the weight/shipping costs since most ebay shops offer free shipping.

Alright so I went to the Pinkage store today. I went to the one in Hongdae. It's right by exit 9 above Watsons.

The store is so-so. It doesn't look new or shiny, like it was built and decorated 5+ years ago and never renovated. There is a cafe, seating area, their selection of wigs, and a salon where they (I assume) style your purchased wig for you.
I'm under the impression they have some wigs in stock, and some you need to order in. Their prices seemed to be a bit cheaper in store than in the website, but I can't say for sure.

The staff were OK. A girl came over to me, greeted me in Korean, then looked at me somewhat clueless when I replied in English, and did not reply. However, later when I was commenting on a wig then remembered the staff didn't speak English and apologized, she suddenly said "no, it's ok" and started talking to me in (broken) English. There were two girls who literally followed me around the store, which is common in Korea but kind of awkward as fuck in a store where I'm really obviously just browsing and there are no other customers.
Some of their wigs were really frizzy and somewhat tangled, like they'd been plopped onto the wig head after being tried on and not combed or tended to.
The staff overall made me feel pretty fucking awkward to be there. They seemed totally baffled that I was in the store, despite saying I was thinking of buying a half wig and short wig, and was checking out their quality IRL, as I had seen their website. They would occasionally say things in Korean to each other then smile or laugh, and I ended up feeling really nervous they were talking about me and laughing and I ended up just leaving after about 3 minutes.

(con't)

>>6487555

In terms of the quality of their wigs IRL, I'd say it's similar to Gabalnara. Soft and looks mostly realistic, but very fine and soft and therefor tangles very easily. I also prefer Gabalnara's clips for their half wig. They are more secure, whereas Pinkage's wigs just use small combs in the middle of the top and at the sides. It didn't look like it would be very secure.

Anyway, the whole experience was enough to make me not go back there and not buy from Pinkage. I felt massively unwelcome and awkward in their store.

P.S., their "wine red" is more like a mid-dark brown with some red undertones. Definitely not dark red.

also sorry for using the phrase "ended up" like a million times

I feel like that's a lot of wig stores. The ones I went to are supposed to be top notch, one of them for cancer patients and stuff, but their display wigs are just gnarly. It's a pity and I cringe, but it seems to be quite common. I think it's that people like to touch the wigs, try them up, and generally muss them up.

This Halloween I made a Makise Kurisu costume. I ordered a wig from ebay, pretty last minute. Thing is, I'm not so happy with how the finished costume ended up being.

For one thing, the wig is much too red (in some lighting it gets purple tones). Now by itself it wouldn't be a problem because a lot of the time Kurisu's hair is dark red in the anime as opposed to auburn in the game. But, it was also my first time styling a wig and I'm pretty sure I cut the bangs waaay too short. It just doesn't look good. The wig itself is actually not of too bad quality, it gets frizzy after a few hours but can be brushed back into submission easily, and the fibers manage to look pretty natural. (I had a lot of people asking me if I dyed my hair that halloween.) I think maybe I can salvage the wig for another costume, so it's not a complete waste, but I would like to get another one when I wear the Kurisu costume to my next con.

I've been looking at the different shops linked in this thread but there's so much information it's like I don't know what I should do with it. I don't mind paying extra for quality, I just want it to look good. I've been having a hard time finding ones with the colour I like, they always seem to be too red or too brown, never a happy medium. The bangs are a bit of an issue too. I've seen wigs that have the bangs already cut on Ebay. Should I take the plunge? I'm afraid I'll buy something truly horrible, but at the same time, I'm not sure if my styling attempts wouldn't be worse.

Also, does anyone have tips for cutting bangs like hers? Like I said, my last attempt wasn't the greatest. It looks simple but it seems like there's subtle details you have to cut just right and I'm scared I'll ruin another wig. I've looked around for tips and tutorials but nobody seems to have anything to say.

Pic related, it's one of the ebay wigs I was talking about.

look like a good color and lenght! Maybe you could give them a try.
About the bangs, I did cut my hair like that, I just cut a straight semi-blunt fringe, at the level of the tip of my nose, and then thin it out giving the 'v' shape. I did it like 3 times and I got better everytime at doing it, maybe it's just practice.

The wig in the picture is the wig I'm thinking of ordering, maybe. Like I said, I'm worried I'll order total crap. It is only about 20 bucks but still.

I also did some more research and apparently Lucaille had a Kurisu wig, but it's not on their site anymore. Also, some people were saying it was quite thin and straight, and probably wouldn't use it again.

That is a really nice colour! I might think about this one.

I'm styling a wig pretty similar to this and I was wondering if you guys had any tutorials or advice on how to do so. I was thinking of making a hair line in that area, using the hairline altering tutorial that involves netting, but I was wondering if I could get felt and sew on wefts then sew the felt on the inside of the cap.

I would like as natural of a hairline I could get, but sturdiness is really more key. Thanks!

This is how this cosplayer made hers: http://www.cosplay.com/costume/291262/

"The wig started out as a long black butt-length wig (The Enchantment from Amphigory.com) I purchased loose packages of extensions and made them into wefts and sewed them into the hairline of the base wig. Once the extensions were in I french braided the base wig. I used the rest of the extensions (about 5 1/2 packages!) and made long braids. I sealed off the ends of them and sewed them into the base wig and wove them into the french braid. Once I got to the ends I sealed them off and connected them end to end to make them super long. I also opened up the bottom of the main french braid and braided the separate pieces so they would transition into the extension braid. Once everything was finished I sewed in the roses."

Gabalnara wigs look pretty real, especially if you take the time to style them up or wear natural accessories. The one downside is that shoulder length wigs/any wigs with ends that rub against your shoulders have the tendency to have ends that look "fried" after a few wears
