Can we get a wig thread going?

I'm considering chopping my hair off to a pixie style but I'd still like some length now and then when I wear lolita. Where do you recommend to buy wigs from and what's overrated and poor quality?

>> No.6447266

Cyperous really is the best wigs I've ever worn.

I have a few lolita wigs from Arda and Epic Cosplay which I like for times I don't want to break out the big guns. The Epic one, one of their 22" curly ones, did well enough that I replaced it after a year when I wore it out.

>> No.6447287

>>6447266

That thought never crossed my mind about the average life span of a wig. How long would you say a wig lasts before needing to be replaced?

>> No.6447335

>>6447287
Dif but it depends on the quality of the wig and how often you wear it and how well you take care of it. It's very individual. Some people wear out wigs in 6 months, others can make them last years.

Something you wear everyday or wear during situations where it might get damaged more easily--being active, for instance--means it will likely get ratty faster than if you're just wearing it now and then for occasions.

Greta wig is really similar.

Pretty much I suggested to the boss that we needed to expand more styles. She asks my coworker and I since we're both cosplayers and convention goers what we should be carrying. I'm the one that convinced her to carry the Helen wig in the first place. We literally only had that style in the color for Vanille and it was such a waste since the style was REALLY good for Mami.

I didn't intend for it to be a duplicate of Arda's Greta wig. I was telling her we should really carry more lolita stuff and that people want something other then the just the curly clip ons, the hera, and the hestia. Not to mention the shorter curly style is a REALLY cute style and our Hestia's are our biggest sellers at conventions and we have orders for them every day.

Of course my boss wants to be able to compete with Arda since she sees them as her biggest rival.

I was just thinking about starting a wig thread!

I personally really do like fantasysheeps wigs, but they have some dodgy looking ones too in their taobaoshop. I'm not sure how their quality for short wigs is nowadays, but I got a long dark blue slightly curly one and I love it, thick and soft and comfy!

I have heard lots of good things about Lucille on taobao as well, so I got bought a brown casual one from them on a whim, and whilst it's not as thick, I forgot that I was wearing it so it's definitely comfortable.

I know Epic has one, but it's 40 and a bit out of my price range at the moment. I'd like to give an ebay store a try, anyone have any favorite stores with good reviews?

I've purchased 3.

The first one is similar to pic related but in a blended dark choc. I think it's a knockoff of a Gabalnara wig?
The seller 'showcoolbags11' doesn't seem to stock wigs anymore though. It was listed as ' '3 colors Women Long Curly Wavy Synthetic Hair Wigs.'
The wig was $15 with free postage.
It's a little long to be practical so the ends have become a little damaged and it has shed a bit. It's rather comfy to wear though.

Once most of the heat has vanished, go it through with the comb again. You might want to take small scissors and snip off some of the knots etc if they are really bad. Two of these (or a similarly shaped foam piece) and extensions over a short base. You can go about this a few ways, but I'd recommend covering the donut shapes in extensions sepearately first. If you're using wefts, form the ponytails by folding over a portion a few times and stitching it together. If you're using loose fibers, caulk them together.

For reusing your base wig, sew toupee clips into your buns and tails, mount to your wig and go. For a more stable wig but more difficulty in reusing the base, sew them on with a curved needle, and use a contrasting thread to the wig mesh if you want to remove the pieces later.

Alternately, you can use a back-part wig like Arda's Chibi (don't use their leia, it's not wefted properly for high pigtails) or a similar wig (ebay and taobao have a few options, but watch out if you have a larger head or a lot of hair) instead of a shorter base, and use less/no extentions depending on the length of the pigtails.

I could justify that price and higher if the quality is amazing. But from a lot of reviews the general quality from most places like GLW is generaly that low or iffy that I'd rather opt for the cheaper option. If it works out well then hat's great but if it doesn't then it's only $10 or so down the drain rather than $50.

It looks stringy because it isn't brushed yet.
For the color, it depends on your monitor, it matches on my monitor and of course that is what I use to work with.

I would like to show multiple angles, however my set up is really the bare minimum (as in, corner of my room with only lights from the window) and I actually take the pictures myself, my boyfriend bailed on me too many times so I got a remote control and it's quite difficult getting a picture of the back this way without any help. In the beginning I did take pictures on a wig head, but it wasn't an ideal setting because it was just too dark there and I don't have space to set something up here. If I get the house I want it will be a lot easier because it's very bright and spacious :)

So yeah, give it some time and there will be more pictures, but for now it'll be the way it is right now.

I have a couple of minty mix wigs and while the styles are nice, they are not suited for long term. They frizz easily after a bit expecially the lighter colors. they are easy to comb out but after wearing them a few times and detanbling, you may find yourself having to recurl/straighten them almost everytime you want to wear it again The actual contruction of the wigs are a bit lacking. The netting loosens up considerable after a few wears and I had issues with the adjustment straps getting super stretched or fraying. the hair used for the wig can again get frizzy which is good for a puffy, bouncy look but can make styling a bit difficult because if the puffiness around the crown of the head isn't flatten and if the netting is stretched, you'll get the dome head look. Because I swear I remember seeing that somewhere and then when the new site came out they said they wouldn't.

Hey /cgl/, I remember a little while ago someone posted some wigs that were on Yahoo Japan auctions. They were about bob length and were mint and brown, and I think there was also a pink and brown one. I've lost the links (although they'd probably be dead by now) and was wondering if anyone knew if they're still available or if not then where I could get the same/similar. I am searching my pictures to see if I saved a pic of the wigs, but so far no luck.

What should I do to achieve the look pictured? I've never seen a ponytail wig that full, and I'm pretty sure adding volume to the thin wigs I've found would put massive strain on my head. What I would do is the ol' stubbing + foamcore trick: http://www.cosplay.com/photo/1856065/
It's the best way in my opinion to do really ultrathick ponytails.

Since you have that metal band around the ponytail, you can hide the stub inside of that. he hairline might be a tough one since that would need a lacefront to look real, but since that crown is in front of it you MIGHT be able to get away without a lacefront. You'll need a lot of hairpins to keep the wig on though, as it will likely be backheavy.

Did you backcomb the base of your spikes? What I do for spikes is this:

>Take section of hair
>Using fine toothed comb, backcomb the base
>Spritz with non-Got2b hairspray
>Blowdry on low
>Use Got2b and tacky glue to make the spike tip
>Blowdry on low
>Finish off by spraying all over with Got2b from about a foot away

Looks like you used way too many spray, your spikes have that stringy look that Got2b can do if you use too much. Use another hairspray and just use got2b as a finisher.

Would you say they're passable for everyday wear? If that blonde one was a natural blonde, then pictures would be lovely, though don't fret if you don't have the time. If they want a solution they should e-mail, I don't have their name, e-mail adress or their order number, I'm rarely on here so 4chan is not really a place to look for solutions from Lockshop. Furthermore, the stock picture from my website on my screen does look the same color as the wig in real life (not the picture of the comparison), I was simply stating that. The pic attached is from Prisila wig's site and the following steps are loosely based on Google Translate but hopefully helps answer your question!
1. Put your hair up into a bun. This will create the hime "bump" once you put the half wig on.
2. Attach the half wig. The wig has a comb which you slide into the front of the bun. The rest of the wig basically sits on top of it.
3. Tease the wig a little so that it conceals your real hair.
4. Use your hands to arrange the wig to help make it look more realistic.

And she knows that a HUGE chunk of her fanbase is on 4chan, that too is only logical. She got her lolita start/fans from 4chan, trips here and has for at least over a year now, and would post her coords here too before she got too busy.

And as for places to buy them - there are a few 3/4 on eBay but none quite like the ones Prisila offers. Unfortunately, they don't appear to be designed to be worn with a hime bump and none of the sellers I looked at seemed to show how it should be worn or if you could use the bun technique to create the hime bump (I don't have experience with those type of wigs, unfortunately).

This is all I could find:

>Prisila wigs
Seems to have the best variety of styles. Popular Japanese brand but also damn pricey.
http://www.prisila.jp/products/list.php?category_id=236

>Cyperous
Known for having very high quality, realistic wigs. They only sell one style under their half wigs category that's really suitable for for hime but it comes in varying lengths and is actually cheaper than Prisila. Colours come in a variety of natural shades.
Look at styles HC-87, HC-20, HC-45 and HC-19.

but after awhile
it gets hard to deal with

the 'grungier fibers' i think is a bit harsh
like, wig fibers do clump up when stored too long. even human hair does.

do you want her to state any styling done in 'worn' photos even if it's as simple as "i brushed it"?
i personally think it's obvious that you brush a wig when you wear it.
the color, however, i agree with 100%. i'd be bummed if i expected plat blonde and got gold or yellow blonde. i really like when stores take those circle shots of as close to accurate as they can get of just the fibers.

Ah, I already have a tripod (how could I take the pictures myself otherwise? :P ) and a wig head, the problem is space and light. The only place I can take those pictures is really dark, like it's at the part of the house where the sun doesn't come and it's in the shade. I used to take pictures there in the beginning, but dark stock pictures aren't very representative either and I can only do so much with color/light balancing, no magic. I might get a beautiful rental house that's very bright and has space for a studio set up though, that would bring a lot more possibilities with it :)

Either way, I do think threads like this are helpful because I get very little feedback from my customers if it's negative (that's why I would like to encourage to e-mail me about any problem, I can honestly not stress this enough, because otherwise I can never know what is wrong!), and to me it's important to know what I can improve. Now I know to re-calibrate my monitor and check pictures on other monitors too, what I forgot in the description of the wigs and what is wanted for pictures. I might come across as bitchy to the "normal" replies but it honestly is not my intention.

GLW was a bit better. One of the wigs has a bump in the scalp. I can't fix it because it's actually a construction flaw. But I'm very happy with the Rhapsody in Auburn. I was asked multiple times if it was my real hair.

This is a picture of the blonde wig. It's this wig: http://www.coscraft.co.uk/coscraft-wigs/289-alex-in-medium-blonde.html
You can see the top of the wig in the picture. It's not a very 'natural' parting, but the colour is nice and the fibres are very soft. It does tangle due to the length but it's not unmanageable. I've worn it quite a few times now and it's not showing any signs of damage. You can see in the picture it's a bit frizzy, but long wigs can get that way when you're walking round a lot. I paid for first class postage on this one. It was £1.50 and arrived a couple of days later (I ordered in the evening, it was posted the next day and then arrived the day after that). I'll take pictures of the other two later, but it will have to be in indoor light. I'll take some pictures of the blonde wig with flash too (it does have a shine to it)

The Aurora wig is similar to the Victoria wig, but lighter. Both the Aurora and Lucina wigs are very soft and have a natural thickness too them (ie, they're not so thick that it looks unnatural, but not so thin you can see wefts). I'm going to be buying the Cybele and Ceres wigs later this week though, so I will let you know how those look when they arrive.

Thanks for the link anon, i'll have to look into this. I did wonder if they were sourcing their wigs from Taobao or similar. I definitely think it'll be cheaper buying from Taobao even with international shipping. I can't see them pushing the shipping up too high. If the other anon gets a chance to review the Cybele and Ceres wigs and they're decent, I might throw them in the order.

And people think all we do is bitch at each other. Thanks for the help anons.

It's >>6462481 again here. Unfortunately I just realised my mother took the camera on holiday with her so I can't test the flash but I'm going to take some shots to compare in natural light tomorrow when I get back from work. Anyway, here are some pictures of the other two wigs. Pics taken in artificial light, which is a bit orangey in my house so I'm sorry!

First up is the Aurora wig. It's kind of a weird ashy purple/red/brown mix, but I really like the colour (I think the middle picture is the most accurate for colour). The Victoria wig is same style and tone, but more reddish. There's a darker reddish/brown colour at the bottom but also some blended in higher up. It's very soft and lovely to touch. It has a shine to it, however, although not too bad. This is straight out of the bag though, and I think I can tone down the shine with powder. The top obviously isn't very natural either. You can't see any of the netting through the hair, it's fairly thick (not all the hair is over my shoulders, some is still behind my back). But for the price, I'm very happy with it. I ordered it with the free delivery and it took 3 days from order to delivery (I always order in the evening).

Next up is the Lucina wig. The first thing that stands out is that the gradient isn't as obvious in person as on the stock pictures. It's still noticable but just not as obvious. I've not yet trimmed the fringe as I only got it recently and it's been sitting in the bag until tonight. It's very similar to the Aurora wig in terms of texture, fibres and thickness. Not much else to say about this one really. I was given this one as a gift though, so I can't comment on the delivery time, although every time I've ordered from coscraft they arrive very quickly. It's great if you need a wig last minute and you're based in the UK. I know I've seen their wigs on Taobao, but they're not really that expensive from Coscraft and I consider the extra as a convenience cost. I like being able to recieve my wigs within a week of ordering it.

Obviously the quality of these wigs isn't as high as my Cyperous wig, which has been through hell and back and still looks great. I would consider the quality higher than both my GLW wig though and they are much more mangable. Compared to Lockshop, I prefer these ones as my Lockshop hime wig is a bit too shiny and my mermaid wig is too thick for my tastes. However, the two wig shops I like to buy from the most is Lockshop and Coscraft.

I can do a review of my Cyperous, GLW and Lockshop wigs if anyone wants but I think there's a lot of these kinds of reviews out there.

As >>6466433 said, you can only use hair dye on a human hair wig. This is because the chemicals are designed to enter into the hairs and strip/attach to the pigment. On synthetic wigs, the fibres are just plastic so the chemicals in the hair dye can just melt them. However, you can still change wig colours. I've known people who have successfully dyed their wigs with sharpie ink (or any other alcohol based permanent marker ink). Just remember that with this method you can only darken a wig, you cannot use it to make the colour lighter. This is because you're basically applying the ink and staining the plastic fibres.
