Went to Ame, Minami, both london expos and manc expo. no complaints really, but Ame seemed to be a bit washed out compared to previous years.

Looking forward to Aya, Minami, Expos, etc

Cosplay scene seems to have weakened, but I've heard rumors next year will see the return of some of our best. Heard more rumors that Xae and Fatkraken are going head to head for ECC.

I went to Midlands MCM, Kitacon, Manchester MCM and London MCM and they I had a good time at 'em all. Kind of getting a bit tired of MCM to be honest, but it's worth going for the parties and fun. Kita was a blast and I can't wait for it to come back around.

I'd like to go to Tokonatsu next year, as it looks pretty cool, and I'd also like to give HyperJapan a go, but I dunno about that one, might stretch me money wise. I'll probably be going to the baby MCMs, Manchester and Midlands again and maybe London in October. Depends on if I'm still piss poor next year.

I haven't really noticed anything about it and nothing negative sticks out. People dress up and have a good time. That's all that matters really.

The scene is the same as it has been for years. Some Good cosplayers, some Bad cosplayers. Mostly its just a lot of fun but its still the same group of people generating all the drama year in year out! I've given up on them ever growing up!

Ayacon for sure. Will be my first (and sadly last) Aya, and I'm sure it'll be amazing. I'm also a bit excited for Gemucon. I doubt it'll be super amazing considering the venue, but a few friends who I haven't seen in a few years are going, so there's that.
Will also attend a few Expos which will probably be fun. Nothing to be excited about though.

There's not as much drama as there used to be, which is quite nice. Cosplays have also gotten better the last few years and everyone is still awesome most of the time.

I've seen a great bump-up in the standard of non-competative cosplay overall though.

Fatkraken hasn't entered a competition since she came 3rd in ECC to my knowledge. Xae did get 'handed a prize' because he did something new and went in a different direction. But I wouldn't call them regular winners. In fact I wouldn't say we have any regular winners.

I wouldn't say the com. is about making the biggest flashiest costumes but it's definitely becoming self centric with all these 'cosplay pages' popping up. Cosplay is moving away from being fun and inclusive and about meeting people with a similar interest in a series/game/media and more about showing off and sticking to who you know and what you know.

I only went to MCM in October and HJ in November. Those were my first ever cons. And first ever cosplays. They seemed pretty good, but I guess I don't really have anything to compare them to. Was totally overwhelmed by the size of MCM, but it was great. And I was impressed that despite how much smaller and quieter HJ was than MCM it was still quite a lot of fun. The meets after the conventions were great, I really enjoyed meeting people from /cgl/. HJ had some drama but was still really good. Definitely enjoyed the social aspect more than the conventions themselves.

Honestly, no idea. I don't really know what conventions there even are. Apparently there's one at a campsite? That sounds great. I'm gonna just go to anything I can, which will probably just be waiting to see if anyone I know is going to a convention and bugging them to let me tag along with them.

MCM October was my first and it was awesome, still want to fully finish my cosplay before I use him again but everything about it was a new and surreal experience. Having someone find me from posting one picture on /cgl/ was pretty crazy, and drinking with them was rad as well.

No they don't just get handed prizes. They work hard at what they do. There are others who do get prizes as well. A lot of the winners at the events this year were all pretty much unknowns or new blood.

I agree that the cosplay pages are killing the fun side of cosplay. Its all so self centric. It takes away from the social side of things. These cosplay pages are taking away from social sites and are stopping people from commenting as much as they used to on people's costumes. I have noticed that these days people are all too focused on their own costumes and don't offer comments on anyone else's. The community feel is dying off as a result.

I've only gotten into this scene recently and having met (what I assume is) both sides of this drama as far as I can tell none of these people are horrible people with mental problems. In fact everyone I've met has been very amiable and friendly to each other. However, when you get onto the internet it seemingly turns into this horrible shitfest of ‘she said this’ and ‘she did that’.

Don't get me wrong I'm willing to believe that certain people have done some questionable stuff (certainly if the few screencaps I've seen of this drama are anything to go by). At the same time I don't see how people can try to take the moral high ground when stuff like >>6460462 or >>6460612 is being posted, it just perpetuates the never ending drama.
And when tripfags try to stay out of it by saying they don't care about this because they are willing to give the girl another chance or whatever, and decide they don't want to take sides in this absurd spectacle they get jumped on by people saying 'how dare you, aren't you supposed to be friends with X'. I suppose that's what they get for even posting with trip on in this shitstorm but at the same time the people posting this are seemingly not noticing that the people who are attacking her are anons.

Why might this be? Could it possibly be that the trips don't hold onto ridiculous grudges that have gone on for god knows how long especially when upon meeting the person in question they don't seem half as bad as all of the anons try to make out they are.

I'm agreeing about what's happening to the cosplay scene.

I used to enter masquerades a lot and they were always good fun. They'd be such a wide variety of cosplays and in contests the winners would be people who genuinely loved the character they were cosplaying. Now people make cosplays solely for winning. They're stupidly elaborate, cramming as many huge props/blinky shit on as possible, have detail that is practically autistic, cost several hundred pounds and are made solely for the stage since they're too fragile/big to actually walk around the con in them. There's zero point in entering any cosplay contests now, it's the same sort of costumes that win each time.

Seriously, take a look at all those that win prizes. How many of them could you see the cosplayer wearing all day and walking round a dealer's room in?
