I actually regularly cosplay Aladdin to ConnectiCon/Anime Boston (typically having shorter hair than this, last con was July) and also have my septum pierced. I figured I'd try to please OP by wearing my purple v-neck along with this shot.
I have a whole original cosplay home-made and been pleasing the crowds for years! I don't think I would ever try being a "punk" version, though, I'm already my fair share of it in real life.

Go for it if you want to, you don't have to listen to these brats who obviously don't share similar interest. Important thing is that YOU like it. If you want to be recognizable though, you'll have to make sure you're using at least the same dress type as the character or clothes and modify it with the different color/rips/whatever. Otherwise, it's really hard to pull off. Like, I'd recognize the Cinderella, but I'm not sure if I'd recognize the Jane.

(i <3 all of those bands but none fit with the theme OP is going for. Rammstein is Neue Deutsche Harte, or something like industrial, Metallica is heavy metal and the Misfits were the first wave of Horror Punk / Goth Punk / Punk Rock but nowhere similar to what those genres sound like now. It doesn't help that the style in OP's picture is something approaching hipster-emo and shouldn't ever be associated with the word "punk" in a serious way)

The only way this would work is if you repeatedly referenced the movie in the costume.

IE: "punk"-styled tattoos of characters/scenes/quotes from the movie you're cosplaying from. Also, instead of a tee-shirt of some shitty band, get a custom-made fake band tee that references the movie. For example; Ariel could have a shirt that says 'Poor Unfortunate Soul' or something.

Also, they need to resemble their original character designs as closely as possible so they're more recognizable. Different hair colors, etc. would detract from that. It would help if the costumes matched the color scheme of their outfits, too.

You would need to do a lot of planning and pay insane attention to detail to pull this off. You might need to explain yourselves to people, but they will appreciate it once they see all the thought you put into your costume.

Honestly though, I would rather see Beauty and the Beast meets this any day:
