I really like this steamstuck and the designs are wonderful but definitely not for people that don't know how make elaborate costumes.

Can I have some advice on arm socks? I have attempted making them twice before, however each time I have ended up making a seam all the way up my arm instead of just near my wrist, due to the fact my arms are so tiny. Am I not buying the correct sized tights or what? I would prefer not having a super obvious seam that I can't really hide.

Sorry for clogging up the thread with questions, here's a Vriska.

Okay so question for all you here who have gone to a cancerously/seerofsarcasm photoshoot or one by each. They seem to run every event I go to and Ive noticed that seerofsarcasm is much nicer and more laid back than cancerously is. Whenever I want to request a shot I go up to her because even if she says no she's nicer than "ugh god i'm trying to run my shoot here" cancerously is. In her defense outside shoots she's not such a tightass but running them she's very unpleasant. I also heard she's a tyrant with her panels but that's somewhat unrelated. Is this just me? Am I the only one who's noticed the difference? Any stories?

Unless you're doing Equius or Feferi, there's always the option of getting like a garter system to hold the armsocks up underneath your shirt sleeves if they end up too short. A tight band (but not so tight it cuts off your circulation) at the top should keep them in place, or sewing it into your sleeve, or attaching it with strips of something to your bra or binder.

Unfortunately that's not an option for me since they're for GT Aranea. And the Sylph design has no sleeves at all. I guess if they end up too short I'll just suck it up and use PAX.

I'm a friend of cancerously's, and if I'm allowed to say this, she's mostly a tightass because she's pretty tired of dealing with idiots at cons or events; which, if I'm allowed to say so, is something she has to deal with very often, I've found myself emphasizing with her because there can be some people that're just frustrating as hell, even if I'm not in her sphere of events/photoshoot/panel-runners. Also, I don't get how she can be a tyrant at panels? She's kind of a hardass, but at cons she tends to gets into that hardass mindset where she's the boss, so.

I think it's just their personalities, frankly. In the few interactions ive had with them I can tell you that seerofsarcasm is laid back 24/7 and only becomes a hardass when people step out of line. Cancerously is more a-type and is a hardass as a base to keep people from stepping out of line in the first place. They just run shoots differently, but both equally as effectively.

Somewhat related, I'll tell you one thing I did notice at AUSA is they have this guy help them run their shoots (he's a white king cosplayer I don't know his name or username) and at the end of the shoots, he would tell everyone to thank cancerously and you could tell seerofsarcasm felt pretty awkward about it, she would just sort of look down and around and step aside which seemed sort of shitty because they pretty much did equal work the whole weekend. They run shoots together in Florida so i'm not sure if it goes the opposite way down there since it's her home turf but either way it sort of seemed really attention-hoggy to me. I went to the NYCC meetup this year and cancerously was running it along with someone else. I've never stuck my nose in dramu or whatever involving her at all, nor did I really want to.

I met her there, she was sweet and talked to me, making sure we followed the fire hazard rules. If you're trying to wrangle probably 200+ people at ONE POINT in time, then, damn, you have to be a hard ass, this goes for every kind of event planner ever. And she ended up taking a million photos and keeping everyone at attention. Props to her, for real. I probably would have brought a megaphone and my attitude

I'm working on Jane's fancy dreamers design right now, but I can't quite decide on which fabric to use for the bodice part of the dress.

I was thinking stretch velvet or something similar, but the only kind I can find is crushed velvet, which seems way too shiny for this kind of thing.

I've heard that a lot of people use taffeta for the skirt, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't look right for the top half of the design.

I'm really stumped on this one, so any help would be appreciated.

Scratchman here, I've helped out with running 2 of the gatherings that Cancerously organized/was a part of. She's very nice and succinct with how she plans things out from what I've seen. We seem to share the same goal of giving everyone a shot at being in the limelight without catering to things only a minority seem to enjoy *cough* STRIDERCEST *cough*.

Also, can't really blame anybody for being stressed out from running a Homestuck gathering, it comes with the territory (I should know).

no. that is a tailored bodice- it won't look right unless you make it in a nonstretch woven. Try duchess satin, it's more matte then the regular stuff and taffeta would look fine with it.

I used it for a meenah cosplay and it rubbed off my hands within the first hour of having it on regardless of the sealing. Shit got all over my steering wheel it looked like I gave it a perm.

However, not a drop left my face or neck.

I'm pretty new to sewing and cosplaying overall, but I really would like to cosplay Roxy. I know that the knitted scarves tend to look better, but since I don't knit and have some old bolts of fleece in the garage in the correct colors, I'm hoping to make her scarf out of fleece instead.

Does anyone have any tutorials/patterns that could help? All the sewn fleece scarf patterns I've found online so far are always for bulky fringey scarves that look like a grandma would wear to Easter church service.

sew the stripe pieces together to create a long piece that is basically a scarf with seams showing on one side. Do the same thing again, so you have two identical pieces. Press your seams. Then sew the two pieces together inside out, leaving one small bit open (maybe a few inches on the end.) Press your seams. Turn it right-side out (this is why you left the hole) and then hand-sew the hole shut so it shows as little as possible. I'm exhausted and heading to bed so if any of that didn't make sense just say so. I'll check back in the morning and re-explain anything you need.

To make her scarf from fleece you literally just need to cut out rectangles of fleece in the colors you pick and sew them together. You can either do this twice, then sew the scarves together to to finish the edges/cover up your stripe seams, or, you can cut your rectangles double the width of what your finished scarf to be, then fold it over and sew it to create a big tube with a seam on 3 of the sides instead of 4.

Also, if you'd rather knit but don't actually want to knit-knit, you could purchase a rectangular knitting board or loom from pretty much anywhere that sells yarn. Most of them come with instructions on how to use them and very, very easy to pick up and much faster than regular knitting.
