Before I started coming to /cgl/ I would have thought that there was nothing wrong with a lot of these coords. As you spend time here and listen to the anons, you learn a lot and develop an eye for what works and what doesn't.

If you haven't already, keep an eye out for the collage threads. Those will help a lot. Also, I recommend staying simple at first, and as time goes on you can get a bit more creative with what you put together.

To me, EGL and Classical are more "mature" sub-genres, so stuff like the skeleton tights generally do not work. I'm not saying it's an absolute no, but I have yet to see one where it works well.

Bittersweet is sweet lolita in a dark colorway, not a real substyle. I say I like bittersweet in that a lot of sweet in bright colors is overwhelming to me, so the dark colors really allow some of the prints to pop. I admit it's not a real substyle and is more of the theme of an outfit.

and not many people can pull of bittersweet correctly. I think bittersweet should also include whitexblack colorways with no other colors.

I disagree. Gothic has fewer colors and Classic doesn't have as much emphasis on being matchy-matchy. I think Sweet is the easiest to fail at, mainly because people pile on anything brightly colored.

I feel like Gothic seems to have less emphasis on accessories also. Like if you just have a good dress, headdress, tights, shoes, and some non-lolita specific jewelry and a good hairstyle you'll pull off a gothic coord well. Shapewear is expensive (for quality stuff), so it's something I'm saving up for at the moment, yes. I've been lurking around here on /cgl/ for a few years now, so yes to the rest. Again, I stated I have an -interest- in lolita, but have not made the investment for anything nice yet.
