Someone tell me how the panels at AUSA went? I'm especially curious about the Homestuck Monologues. In the past they've been embarrassing out of character 'sadstuck' drama, but this time around there were a lot of well known cosplayers involved, so I'm really, really curious.

At any rate- it is true that I am quite a bit chubby! I like to cosplay at any rate though, and so generally try my best to wear costumes that flatter my body and choose poses that will look nice. For Sailor Aries, since I knew that my flabby upper arms would be exposed, I was very careful to stick with poses where my arms were down and/or back, so that it wouldn't be as obvious how big they are.

I'm cosplaying for the first time so I'm just doing regular Jane,but I bought a style of glasses and skirt that I know works better with my face/body type than what Jane wears in canon. The skirt is passable because people like drawing Jane with that style of skirt so it'll be recognisable enough, but you should try going for canon glasses! You can fudge a little away from the oval shape -try cat-eyes- but glasses are one of the defining characteristics that differentiate between Jane and Jade.

What do you guys use on your body to paint yourself gray? I used Ben Nye on my face, hands/wrists, and thighs for a cosplay last month. It was perfect on my face, pretty good on my thighs, but I had a bit of a problem with my hands/wrists. I sealed it with the Ben Nye powder and spray but even still it smudged on my bag. My next few planned cosplays require me to paint even more of my body with gray so what do you guys recommend? I heard PAX is good but I'm not sure if I want to go through all the trouble of removing it.

i use kryolan aquacolor with the ben nye powder and spray. the ben nye is okay but it does tend to smudge a lot more easily, especially on the hands.

I use Bennye for my face and I've used it on my hands before. The problem with your hands, even if you seal, is that you're still moving and touching probably everthing, so its bound to fade faster with that. But I couldn't recomend it enough for your face.

I saw it mentioned, but is anyone else sick of the stupid Homestuck panels and the fact that they always have the same people as the same characters? I've been using Snazaroo lately! When applied and sealed properly, it looks really nice and is a great color, and I've found that it isn't as damaging on your skin as something cream based like ben nye is, which is definitely a plus for me since I have sensitive skin.

Same here- Ask panels are great and all, but they're getting a bit old. I've tried to come up with something that incorporates the things that I like about Ask panels (cosplay, acting/improv, audience participation) and turn it around into something new. The result at AUSA was... a bit shaky, but I am hoping for an opportunity to refine it a bit more and do it again at Katsucon.
As for non-cosplay-related Homestuck panels-- those sound great as well! I'd really love to see someone come up with a good one (Let Me Tell You About Homestuck panels notwithstanding). There is a lot of really interesting theory to discuss, not just within the comic itself, but in the comic's roots and Hussie's experimental techniques (hold on a sec let me put on my Kerouac hat and talk a little bit about how First Draft; Best Draft is basically what Homestuck is all about).

Pax on the hands isn't great, it forms like a second skin but because your hands will be move and touching it'll wear out the pax and you'll start to have holes forming. Chiming in here on the AUSA panel discussion. I think it was fine there were the same cast this year for the ask panel as it was directly said it was sort of a continuation of the first. Did I really miss the AUSA panel bitch train? What a shame and I never thought I'd see the day CGL was complaining there was too much drama and not enough cosplay. Must be the panelist.

Anyways my perspective on the panel was that it was pretty good. Last year was better but they did a good job handling a lot of the update material. It was also nice to see that nearly half the cast was changed and that they incorporated the alpha kids without it being a clusterfuck.

I will say their Karkat was a down grade. I liked the scripted bits but their free form was pretty poor and the last thing I wanted before going into a panel was the Karkat coming out and literally yelling about 'not throwing things' like we were idiots. But I've seen them at meetups and they take themselves too seriously anyways. But yeah nice to see new people and the script was good and there were some funny bits in there.

I'm not on the east coast. I had seen the monologues online and thought they were fine enough, nothing spectacular. Were there any high points in the AUSA ones? Any low points?

This 16 year old girl who's running the panel kept threatening to kill herself and cut herself because people were asking her about auditions. They had the panel already cast in July, the con is in December, and on the panel group it had said they were accepting auditions when they were really turning people away because the girl running it was letting her friends have first dibs. It pissed a lot of people off, because why say you're holding auditions when you just want to cast your friends? Just cast your friends and don't mislead people.
Then there was a bunch of drama because someone was asking her to reopen auditions, and she did for about 2 hours, before closing them again saying she was getting death threats on tumblr because of it, which never happened. Then random family members of hers started sending threats to a friend of mine because they though she was behind the supposed "death threats", and there is this psychotic facebook post from her step mom or something, pic related.
