From last thread:

>>6398752
>So, if I bought some Dr Martens, would they look pretty damn close to real docs? As in not obviously fakes from a distance?
>from a distance

Maybe.
Design-wise, it looks quite similar to the real deal, but it's not made of leather or nice materials which even from a distance makes it look cheaper and like an obvious knock-off.
Still looks quite nice, though, and are more resistant than I expected. I wear them as regular, everyday shoes and have been doing so since June and there are little signs of wear, the only ones are made by the shoes themselves (because apparently I can't walk like a normal person and keep rubbing them together) and the material that is kinda wrinkled because ankles move.

Here's a picture of them on the first day. They are from your usual taobao shop, there were literally dozens of shops with these same shoes, same prices, same stock pictures.

About other knock-offs, it really depends. On a previous thread a girl posted a really pretty replica of those Melissa + Vivienne Westwood winged RHS but before that I only heard of these being shitty, poor material etc. Read them reviews.

Alright I'm just gonna repost in the new thread since the other one is on its way out
I've saved up some money and I'm planning on spending up to about $400-$500 on some new clothes since my work wardrobe consists of like three outfits right now.
What I'm debating though is if I should go to Taobao becuase of the selection, or if i should try wholesale shopping sites. the prices are a bit higher at taobao but there is so many more choices on taobao.
So long story short, Taobao VS wholesale sites, what are your opinions?

Hmm it doesn't look like it's much cheaper than taobao for most items. I'd go with taobao.
Hey, why don't you sign up with a couple taobao services, put the clothes in the cart and do the same for the wholesalers. See what seems right - pricewise and deisgnwise.

the bottom chart is what you want
the three measurements are: circumference of waist, buttocks (widest part of your hips), and suggested height.

>> No.6402677

>>6402656
Yep. I never order pants or shorts due to length and other issues (I have a giant bum although my waist is 28"). I've bought mostly accessories and sweaters. Tops are OK so long as you really pay attention to measurements. I also tend to gravitate towards 'sweater dresses' which will sit at normal 'long sweater' length on me.

IDK if you are looking for lolita items or not but I can tell you that Surface Spell is awesome. They understand that long torso measurements means that you are not fat and that it doesn't just mean 'lengthen the skirt.' Kidsyoyo, Infanta and R-series all kind of sucked at that and the custom measurement items I received were very strange looking.

The chest elastic tends to run a bit small, so if you're a bit booby, you might spill out.

Hey /cgl/, I think I need some help.

I ordered some shoes through e-mail from Antaina back in mid October. On Oct. 23 they sent me an e-mail saying the shoes were being shipped through registered air mail and would take a while to get to me. The last time their tracking numbers were recorded was on Oct. 28 when they were still in China. Now it's November and they still haven't arrived yet. I'm worried the packages got swept out to sea during Hurricane Sandy or something.

tl;dr Is it normal to have to wait almost 3 weeks for stuff to be shipped to the US from China through registered air mail?

I can only assume 47cm, obviously a flat measurement, so it's actually 94cm (37 inches) in bust, and 65cm in length.

I use google chrome so that the full page is translated. When you see the characters for "bust" and "waist" enough times, you don't really need to translate it. Look for numbers that aren't followed by yuan. Usually they have a size chart, you can see some examples further up in the thread, I believe a kind anon actually translated one or two.

Okay guys. Crunch time.

After days of poking around and searching for things and spending more time on xe.com than might be considered normal, I think I'm ready to place my very first taobao order.

Problem is I'm one of those paranoid types about spending money online (even for things I really, really want), and even though my order is below $35USD and there are no heavy things like shoes or bags, I'm freaking out about shipping and an SS.

So I guess what I'm asking is can anyone share their before SS&SH prices vs. after and what SS they used? Just so I can get a general idea for it?

So I placed an order back in September, and decided to give Surface shipping a try (3kg for $24). It was shipped by Taobaoring on Sept. 28, and I panicked because seven days later, the tracking number had "expired". I was getting no updates for a while, but I kept telling myself that it's in transit and the tracking number will be ok once it reaches the U.S.

And I was right.

I'm assuming my package left China on Sept. 29, because that's when the tracking number stopped tracking, and on November 11, it finally updated itself (I like to use packagetrackr). My package is now in New Jersey, and I hope it comes to me soon. I live in California.

Surface shipping is an estimated 6-8 weeks, but some people are unlucky and don't receive their packages long after they've given up on it. I guess it's really a toss up.

Sadly not, but I'm only just getting into bjds. I think anything 1:4 and smaller has that "kid" look if it's male. 1:3 tends to have more mature looking faces, but all of the 1:4/MSD sculpts look really, really young.

i've always been total fucking garbage at recognizing specific sculpts outside of a small handfull. Tbh though it might be a volks with an abnormally flattering faceup, I'm fairly sure they offer those huge elf ears. B&G doll definitely has many, if not all of their sculpts with an elf eared option, and resinsoul has some as well though they're 'cheap' dolls so tend to be a little on the derp side, light modding recommended. Buying just a basic naked model without face up like her from fairyland will set me back around £300 before shipping. Yet Taobao's offering the same for 1/5 the cost. It'd be interesting to see just how good/bad the replica is.

I don't condone recasts as I think they're a stealing of the hard work a sculptor puts through but I can answer some questions.

Luo is the one who ships internationally
And the main difference between an original doll and a recast are two different things:
-Size
-Inside head sculpt

Size is smaller due to shrinkage of the cast. So if a doll is 60cm it shrinks down a few centimeters to 58-56 (rough estimate depending on cast). The inside of the head is imprinted with a logo of the company of the recaster.

Other than these two differences, you can't tell if its a real or fake without physically having it in your hand.

I joined DOA way back when registration was open. You have to make 40 posts before you can even see the marketplace and all the threads in there aren't exactly noob-friendly, so it's like a cycle. No doll/dolly knowledge. not much to post about, just lurk, and don't get enough posts to get to the MP unless you spam "welcome to DOA! =^W^=" in a ton of intro threads.

Or if you're braver you can venture into the gallery threads and comment on the many many "photostory" threads where there are a ton of TTLY MALE U GUISE dolls having "sex" or some 'daily life of a demon from hell trapped in a doll' stuff.

Doll people on DOA are fucking crazy, I'm not even joking. They take their dolls *very* seriously.

Interesting. And I should clarify: I'm trying to actually *avoid* recasts. I saw a few dolls on Luo's TaoBao that looked amazing, but the prices were too good to be true low, so I figured they were recasts. Problem is that Google Translate does strange things to the text, so I'm not sure which are and which aren't half of the time. Is there a particular word/character set I should be looking for that will identify them?

That's the other reason I've avoided getting into BJDs. The doll owners I know are mostly insane and believe their dolls are alive/have souls, which is just scary. Combine that, the unfriendly nature of the scene and the fact that most informational threads are locked off unless you're a registered, approved member, and it's pretty shit.

I'm registered with DoA, but waiting on confirmation from a mod. In the mean time, I've been browsing a lot of DA groups and Tumblr blogs. They're helpful, but a pain in the ass to search.

>I don't condone recasts as I think they're a stealing of the hard work a sculptor puts through

I agree with this in most cases, with a few exceptions:

>really rare sculpts that may not be made anymore
>hilariously expensive sculpts that are hilariously expensive for no discernible reason (not anime/celebrity-inspired, etc.)
>sculpts that aren't sold/made by the artist/company anymore
>sculpts that are fucking impossible to get without getting scalped

I mean, they're just dolls after all. They sit in your house, you take pictures of them, play with them, dress them up. It doesn't exactly matter if it's "authentic" or not.

Basically I'd avoid taobao for doll shopping of any non-china based doll. Soom,Super Dollfie, and other korean companies tend to be recasts about 99% of the time. But there are a lot of legit Chinese doll companies that are on taobao that of course sell their dolls for cheaper.

Fair enough. I'm mostly looking at Dika and MiniFees. I assumed that the Dika is legit since it's from "their" TaoBao page, but I'm not sure about the MiniFee. It doesn't say in the listing or title that it's a recast and the prices aren't too ridiculous, but I wasn't sure.

Mostly, I just like their faces compared to the more angular, larger dolls and I figure if I can bundle the doll into a shipment with wigs/eyes/clothes without getting a recast model, it's not a bad idea.

I'd suggest going to with Dika, since it is a HK/China based company but as for the minifee without seeing the page I couldn't be able to tell you.

But if you want a minifee you could layaway one given you're in the USA at this site http://www.denverdoll.com/fairyland.php or buy them directly at fairyland as minifees are standard dolls and not limited.

Sadly, I'm in Australia, not the US. It makes things a bit of a pain, sadly. Not many doll sites want to deal with Australia Post, it seems? I need to do more research there.

The MiniFee I was looking at is here:
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.3.0.76.pdeWqA&id=14459374241&

I'm going to assume, based on the price and the fact that it IS a Korean brand originally, that it's a recast. I'll stick with the Dika for now and if that works out, go from there.

Anyway, I got a meido-dress with an apron (some of you might remember the dramu about it a few threads back), wrist cuffs, maid bonnet, pettycoat and an extra little black hair bow which I guess was a gift. I ironed and wore everything yesterday evening and was struck by the cuteness.

But today I thought about inspecting the things a little closer. The dress had tiny bits of loose sewing string all over it when I unpacked it and I was okay with it. The petty did also. I didn't think much of it, just cleaned it up. Today when I checked the petty again I noticed that almost all of the edges have unraveling strings of organza fabric on them. There were huge hunks of scrap organza hanging from between the seams aswell. The apron has the same problem - some parts of the edge have bits of unraveling fabric between the overlock stiches. It may not be worth $200 to you, but think of all the time and craftsmanship that was invested into this piece; in addition to using high quality materials, the artist probably invested a lot of time sewing each seam, installing the zippers, installing the studs, hammering in each eyelet...as an artist myself I find it extremely insulting that people think something handcrafted of this quality should be $30 as opposed to $200. The gloves are unreasonable but if that bag was handmade out of leather $200 is more than fair.

You guys are just cheap shits who've been spoiled by Taobao. I'm all for Taobao but it was more fun when people were looking for hard to find stuff instead of the next knock-off.

Holy shit where did you find a bong on taobao and how?

Yeah, because she would totally OVERPRICE TO HELL AND BACK TO GET OVER 500% OF PROFIT from a pair of gloves but then magically put just the right, fair price on her bags.

If I can buy it cheaper then I will. Less money spent on individual things, the more stuff I can buy, after all.

Why are you so upset that people would rather have cheaper knockoffs than expensive ~authentic~ shit? People don't give a damn who made it as long as it works how it's supposed to.

Hi guys, I just made a medium sized order through TaobaoRing, and one of the items was a cosplay. TaobaoRing said that the seller said the cosplay would take 10 days. To get to my point, I'm shipping via EMS, am I still safe for the holiday rush? My items are time sensitive for ALA at the beginning of January.

Oh I've seen various hauls on here that included makeup brushes, so I assume it's alright. Whenever those people show up, please link, I'm interested too!

Seconding. I feels ya, I was searching for a bunny hoodie earlier but all of them were either way too fucking fluffy or the color was pure white.

I just bought a doll from a guy who has a taobao shop, but I talked to him through MSN directly, you can get his info on the Castawaydolls.com forum, along with what dolls he sells. His name is Steven Chen. He's great to work with and my doll looks as good as the original, although one of the magnets that keeps the feet on doesn't work. (That is okay, I'll just glue it on as I don't want to change out the feet.) He even does pretty good face-ups for $30.

Ha ha, converting Yuan to £ roughly in your head is very easy right now. Just move the decimal point one space to the left. 68 yuan is £6.80.

>Many netizens also pointed out that Ms. Li is far from the only person that has profited in this fashion. In fact, “daigou,” or “proxy shopping”, as purchasing goods abroad by request of domestic consumers is called in China, is a robust business in China. People in this profession are often Chinese students studying overseas, flight attendants or tour guides who have more opportunities to make outbound travels, although it is not rare that some shopping agents make ad hoc trips. @莫可莫莫 wrote, “Don’t all cosmetic sellers on Taobao purchase merchandise like that?” @Smile凤凤 added, “Just send everybody into jail! Duty-frees have always been sold on Taobao, and we have always been buying from proxy shoppers!”
