I can see why weebs get mad, since anime conventions are for anime, but the reason things like Naruto and Bleach get such a huge fanbase is because they're so long.
Now-a-days, people don't like watching anime that are 50+ episodes long, so anime is being made shorter to abide by that.
As such, the fanbases are much smaller.
Smaller fanbases = less cosplay.

Whereas American cartoons just fuck around and do whatever. Adventure Time's been going on for, what, over a year now?
Plus, it's easier to watch American cartoons than it is Japanese because, well, most of us are American.

Again, I can see their logic, but times change.

I'm not from USA, so I can tell you that american cartoons are just much easier to watch. You don't have to watch the whole thing, you can just enjoy a funny show for once if you want.

Plus, much harder to find fanservice, so you can watch it with you mother or nephew with no worries.

I'm not a weeaboo but anime conventions are for anime and Japanese things. Otherwise, I just feel you're being rude.

If your state/city only has an anime con and not a pop culture/comic con then I don't mind if you dress up as something western, since it'd be the only time you'd get to cosplay really.
But if you have a pop culture/comic convention in your city, then what are you doing.

Since when does anybody who goes to conventions NOT know what anime is? Also, like someone mentioned in the that other thread you made, it's not necessary to leave your email in the fields. In fact, you'd really rather not do so. Not here. Not on this website.

In all seriousness, I don't see anyone get mad at someone for cosplaying from cartoons. Or video games. Or comics. I will admit, I hate Doctor Who/live action cosplay with a passion, since it seems boring but I'd never complain to someone who was wearing it. Some people wear "anime" and a lot wear video game cosplay to Comic-con so I don't see any issue.
