rose's grimdark makeup is pretty hard to do, at least in my experience. the dark grey can be startling to look at, especially against the light colored hair, and it's hard to get it on evenly. also, in her talksprite, rose has this weird white glow around her eyes, hence vintage-aerith's makeup in that shot.

I've never even heard of using sugar water? I've used Got2bglued spray for all my styling and it's worked great. You might be able to help get some lift into your wig by very carefully blowdrying it in the right direction.

Paint is rubbing off her hands and arms and looks terrible. Gap in the bottom of the shirt is way too wide, there's no attempt at fraying the sleeves for dead Aradia, con wristband, the wig sits strangely on her head, etc. There's really nothing particularly good about this cosplay. I'm not a competition cosplayer mate, maybe in that kind of setting, little things like that matter, but if I just want to dress up like Aradia for fun (which is something I really like about the Homestuck fandom, you can actually do that!), I really, really am not going to give a fuck about those kind of details, and I object to you calling it lazy when there's a LOT worse out there. Yes, some things are off, but calling it lazy is really going too far and suggests to me that you have an overly negative attitude to these things.

Good restraint in applying that red mascara (compared to other over-the-top Aradias' makeup). In this photo the wig looks like it's sitting a little high on your forehead, but that might be bang placement.
One makeup recommendation: Thicken or darken your eyebrows. Thicker eyebrows make you look younger, and darker eyebrows help balance out the way the rest of your face looks.

There's a difference between "natural" and "put wig from bag straight on head".

I actually prefer the natural look a lot more than 100% canon, because like people said, it often looks really awkward, even when done correctly. Unless the entire costume is cartoonish, it will just look out of place.

And in my experience cosplaying Yugioh shit, sometimes you really got to know the limits of the aesthetics of hair, even on a wig.

I do like knitted Eridan and Roxy scarves, but I'm picky about the tension. I think they look best with a smaller needle size and tighter tension, like 4mm needles at most, but most scarves I see look like they're up at the 5mm+ mark and the fabric goes all loose and droopy/affected by gravity. I assume it's because people don't want it to take a long time and the looser tension gives you more material quicker. I'm also partial to stocking and/or moss stitch and think they give a nicer look, but most go for the standard garter.

I love scarves made with thinner yarn, tighter tension, and nice texture; the downside to stocking stitch is generally you need more yarn, since most people like to finish stockingette as a tube so that it has an even texture on both sides with less curling at the edges. I love moss stitch though.

I wrapped wire around a thin steel headband to make pegs for the horns.
The horns are floral foam, so I stabbed holes in the bottom with the wire. Goes something like this:
Wig net -> headband -> wig -> horns
