The past many HSGs have been a frustrating combo of good and shit terrible. Every time these threads get quality (with good cosplays, wips, advice, etc posted), someone starts drama or namedrops a Tumblr famous cosplayer who's been discussed to death over and over here before. It's really tiring. How many times can we reiterate the same shit about the same people?

There's a lot of potential for these threads to be great, but the asperger's vendetta shitposting really brings them down.

HSG, I need some help. I'll be doing Meenah later this year, and I'm trying to figure out her ridiculous braids. My plan includes finding some thin flexible tubing to attach to the wig and braid a series of wefts around that. So far I've only found this medical tubing stuff, and I'm wondering if this would work as a base, or if I should look for something else? My main concern here is flexibility and finding a tube no bigger than the width of a thumb. Does something like that exist that I haven't found yet? Or should I consider another alternative.

I think that's more effort than you really need.

The way I did it was to take a short wig and style it, then one really long, cheap Halloween wig (I got mine on eBay by searching "godiva"). Split that into four sections, braid the four sections, then sew two of the sections to each other and those two super-braids into the short wig. My starter wig was five feet, and my resulting braids are about seven feet long and fairly thick.

After I tied off each braid with the thinnest black elastic I could find, I trimmed off the excess, then sewed one braid on top of the other as tightly as I could.

By sewing tightly, I managed to compress most of -- but not all of -- the slight lump of the double-braid. (You can see the lump just below crotch-level in the braid behind my legs. Also, I generally apologize for this picture.) Someone on /cgl/ probably knows how to connect braids better, but I still think massacring a costume-shop wig is probably cheaper than buying wefts.

the fantroll in question is batori from "alabaster: the doomed session". she's a wannabe rainbow drinker who paints over her grey skin in an attempt to look like she's glowing. as you can see, her skin paint has a bluish hint, but it's such a light cyan i'm not sure what i should do. should i do a light blue base with lots of white highlights/blending? she's basically trying to cosplay a rainbow drinker, so i thought it might be a good idea to apply a body shimmer too, but i'm not sure. i haven't had much experience doing any skin paint outside of grey.

Adding a body shimmer sounds neat, as long as it doesn't make you look heinously moist. The light cyan with white highlights and blending also sounds like it'd work. For the wig, a) throw in some styling stuff to give the bottom some volume or b) add a bunch of wefts to the bottom. Trim to shape.

I was thinking of remaking my God Tier Jade. I admit it was done in kind of a hurry so I only used jersey knit and thick cotton. The costume felt more like pajamas and I'd constantly fall asleep in it on my boyfriend's lap. I wanted a cotton for the hood because I wanted it to flow but it was pretty sheer.

I wanted to do something kind of fancy like but not really. Just a nice fit with maybe some sparkles here and there for the stars. Packed rooms are bearable as long as you know the people in the room get along, but at the same time are comfortable with saying hey shut up, I'm trying to sleep here.

I forever refuse to let people who I know to be loud drunks be part of the room, as well.

With around 7-8 it usually costs me $40 or so hotel-wise. We also make sure to bring air mattresses (futons if we're taking a car there) so people don't have to sleep straight on the floor.

The whole thing seemed really sketchy. Especially because they said like one or two people had allergies or something and couldn't stay, they wouldn't just find a new room for them, and instead demanded a room for all ten people instead of the few who couldn't stay. On top of that they wanted the room only for their group, and for a certain price.

After the con, when they weren't refunded for the room, one of them made a post about it and people offered to send the hotel nasty messages. They immediately were like "NO GUYS IT'S OKAY!" after that and dropped the issue.

I've stayed in the exact hotel they were in and I had no problems with it. They had good service, and nice rooms.

Most hotels will not be okay with you if you have ten people in a hotel room, so my guess is they got caught and became butthurt.

got there around 2am to find the room we were supposed to be staying in was a 200 sqft as opposed to 2000, as it said on the website. smelled like pot and one of the people that was supposed to be staying in the room has really severe lung problems. Extremely rude staff and we ended up driving around downtown baltimore in the middle of the night trying to find another place to stay. luckily one of the people in the room hadn't cancelled their original room, so we stayed there for the night. I was just looking at this picture on my dash. Personally, I like some of Synnesai's designs, but it seems like if you're going to try to cosplay one, so have to go all out for it, and this John disappoints me.

My opinion on alt outfits always seems to boil down to: if you want to make it to test your ability and wear it for a shoot to showcase it, cool. But I'd never wear it to a convention or except to get special recognition for it.

Hello HSG. I had a question for you guys. I'm considering doing a Terezi cosplay in January for Ohayocon, and I've already done the whole T-shirt and black pants troll outfit once. My question for you is: do you think trolls look weird going solo in Prospit PJs, or is that an okay thing to do? I almost never see trolls in the dreamer outfits would a group (or at least one or two others) in the same outfits, and I'm worried that going solo in an outfit that's only seen once in canon to my knowledge would be a little bit weird.

(My second question is: how have you guys been making the collars for the dreamers? I was thinking just a basic circle of fabric and stuffing it with cotton or something, but any tips would be appreciated. I would link a pic but I couldn't find one offhand, sorry....)

Why exactly does everybody here hate mookie's and synnesai's designs? I like them pretty much and I cosplayed 3 of mookie's designs before. Also, I kind of hate some of rumminov's designs? Most of them, actually. They just look.. I dont know, cheap(?) to me.

Let's see.

Her designs are generally poorly constructed from the view of someone who actually does fashion and design. They are incredibly busy without actually managing to control all the shit that goes on so it ends up looking like a clusterfuck of "let's throw some of this shit on here!". She adds unnecessary layers upon layers of... things, and it doesn't work out because it just gets piled on.
Rumminov, on the other hand, actually knows what she's doing from a designers point of view, her designs are fancy without being ridiculously over the top, it's classy and fancy without being a mountain of fabric tossed onto a mannequin with no semblance of putting it all together.
Mookie's artstyle is also a complete rip from other artists, so she hasn't even been able to develop her own style yet and it's very obvious. Her designs are also obvious attempts at getting famous by ripping on Rumminov's thing. They're poorly designed, rip-offs and she throws in way too many fashions from other sources that just DON'T fit with the outfit.

So yeah.

Mookie's stuff is super busy and over the top just for the sake of being busy. There's not much consideration of character in the designs either, imo

tldr: Mookie's designs need severe editing and an injection of originality and Synne needs to learn how both human bodies and fabric behaves

Jadesprite is really interpretive and you have a lot of different options. If you need a starting point, look at the various versions that other cosplayers have done, pick which one appeals to you, and start from there.

I have a little problem now that we know that space players wears red shoes. I'm doing fancy GT kanaya from rumminov's design, and when I asked her about shoes she told that it could be this one.
