Yeah, the horns I have on my dA aren't really the shape I make them now. Those were the first ones I crafted back in 2011. I've just never gotten around to updating them on the site, my bad. But thanks you for pointing it out so I can!

The problem back then too, was that Hussie usually just has a small inconsistency with different artist's perspective on what the horns should look like but I usually go with what looks popular and good enough.

I'll try to get better pictures up! I've been meaning to use a better camera so I can take picture of them with a flash, natural light and sunlight. I've just been wanting to get them done and shipped out as quickly as I can so I usually never grab pictures of them and I ship them then kind of never hear from the people again. I've asked for pictures on my tumblr in hopes of getting some though! So I hope that follows through.

While I don't doubt part of it is the knee jerk reaction to ignore what 4chan says, I think a lot has to do with how critique here tends to be worded.

It's one thing if you ask for critique, but most of the people that get it here haven't asked for it. That, combined with 4chan usually giving straight to the point, blunt criticism, makes people react like most other people would when they feel insulted or hurt.

Which is to say they go out of their way to ignore it.

It's true that there are people out there who refuse to take criticism and improve their cosplays, but that's not a Homestuck think per se. It's not even a cosplay thing.

People, as a whole, don't like to be criticized. Some of them will react poorly no matter what. It's like giving someone advice on improving their life when they're in a bad situation, only for them to throw all that advice out the window and continue to wallow in a situation they could improve.

It's awesome that you do pad your critiques with compliments though, I always try to slip critiques in the middle so what I have to say doesn't end on a harsh note.

Just tried pushing horns through a wig to hide the headband and the base is too thick (they're not canon). Any tips?

You may need to make a slit in the wig lace

Cut through some of the netting in your wig, push the horns through, and sew it back up. Next time, make your horns separate from the headband and push in screw anchors into the bottoms while the base is still malleable (or made of foil, which is easy to smush up). Drill holes through your headband to match with the desired placement of horns, and screw them into the headband, sandwiching the wig netting in between. Arrange the hair so it hides the base of the horns.

I'm looking to cosplay as Cronus in the near future but I haven't decided on how to style the wig yet, how exactly would you like to see a Cronus wig styled? I know that a lot of Cronus cosplayers aren't meeting your standards with the wig.

Examples of how it should look and tips would be highly appreciated, thank you in advance.

I had planned on getting one of the photographers involved in this shoot to film me putting on the makeup for the photoshoot; the photographer was running really late though so I didn't get a chance. At the minimum though, I'll take self pics of how I did the stitches if I wear this to Youmacon, and my next photoset includes a text explanation of how the mouth stitches were done.

Here, have a freebie selfpost as I ask: I openly admit to occasionally having to shoop zits etc. However, thanks to me not being able to see shit and also being really out of it, I didn't notice that in a few pics that are otherwise great, the zipper on my outer binder was buckling and leaving a weird lump. If I get rid of the zipper lump, do I need to put in a disclaimer the same way my other set had a disclaimer about touching up the eyes in some photos to minimize the mesh?

I don't want to post anything that isn't a pretty damn accurate portrayal of what you'd see IRL, but since I normally don't plastic surgery shoop, I don't know if zipper-lump removal requires a disclaimer for honesty.

as for my grimdark picture, that's just a poor phone photo. it's halloween and my makeup wasn't perfect. so what. i wasn't doing anything special besides going out with some friends. i also have white on my waterline, you just cannot see it in that picture, and when i end up OFFICIALLY doing grimdark, i'll make sure to have better pictures taken. also, yeah. that was my seatbelt that got my neck in the picture. i posted that on tumblr, so anyone would know that.

if people were to give me quality critiques on ways i can ACTUALLY improve my work, then by all means, send them my way. don't just give me a "your cosplay is absolute shit" without telling me WHAT i can improve on.

As a theatre major I just wanted to step into this and say that this is actually pretty common. I do costuming and makeup, they're pretty much the only classes I take now since my pre-reqs are done, so even though my major is TECHNICALLY "theatre" I tell people i'm a costuming student or that I study costume and makeup design.
