How would I go about doing this in a wig?

General Wig thread. Post tutorials, tips, and questions here.

>> No.6356196

it's a really messy bun with not all the hair pulled into the bun.
basically, make a bun and leave a ponytail coming out of it.

any wig dye tutorials?
I swear there should be a wiki sticky for this topic.

That doesn't look like an actual hairstyle, but more like it's either in motion or laying against an invisible wall. You can't get hair to defy gravity like that without a wireframe.

>> No.6361440

>>6361411
I did my hair like that when it was long. You start like you're going to make a ponytail, put band around hair and twist once. Do it again and pull hair through, but not all the way. One more around the bun. Ta-da.

That isn't going to make your hair shaped like that picture.

It's suspended in mid air.

this.

also does anyone have the tut on using fabric softener on your wig? i just want to make sure i'm doin it 100% right

>> No.6361516

>>6361477
You just do it to the side. Seriously. And if the shape is a bit off then you just put a hair donut in there. Problem solved, now would you kindly fuck off?

Anyone have any general reliable wig sites, preferably located in the US? I'm willing to spend a bit as long as it's decent quality.

Sorry for the vague question.

cosplay.com wigs are okay as long as you're not wanting to actually use a curling iron on them. They do not take to styling at all.

Noted, thanks. I'm looking for something pretty generic right now so hopefully that won't be a problem.

My wig has loads of body, but the character it's for doesn't. It's not that the wig is overly thick (quite the opposite really) so I can't simply thin it.

Can the hot water method people use for relaxing curls be used to help reduce the body of the wig?

It's at my house, and I'm babysitting for tonight so I can't grab a picture. The best way I can describe the wig is that it's the type that have the straw-like texture so that you can style it with your fingers easily.

I've tried pinning the parts with the most body and spraying them heavily with got2B, but the wig itself is just incorrigible.

I ordered a better wig quality wig that was smoother, but it's been stuck at 'origin post is preparing for shipment' for four weeks now, even though a wig I ordered the next day from the same place already got here.

I have a con coming up next weekend, so in case it's not here by then I was hoping I could make the one I have now work.

How can I give the wig on the right the texture of the wig on the left? Would braiding the hair work? I need it to have that "poofy," almost frizzy look.

>> No.6361985

>>6361979
Braids would work. Lots of small to medium sized braids. Get the wig damp, comb it out, braid, and leave for a day or so. Then when you take the braids out it will be frizzy.
Though you may want to use the hot water method to straighten that wig first.

>> No.6361990

I have a medium bob wig from cosplay.com and even though it is heat resistant and should style with a curling iron, it just.. doesn't hold.
I've tried it with two different curling irons from low to high settings. It just doesn't do shit.
All I want to do is curl the ends in a bit.

>> No.6362037

>>6361985
Ah, great - thanks!!
Yeah, I'll definitely be straightening it. Is the hot water method better than using a flat iron for hiperlon fibers?

>> No.6362063

>>6362037
You can do either, it really just comes down to if you have time/really want to sit there with a flat iron.

>> No.6362082

>>6361990

The fibres need to cool in order to keep shape. Otherwise, the heat will "relax" the fibres. They become soft and limp. If they "harden" in place by cooling, they will keep their shape.

Try wrapping the ends onto large foam curlers, them blowing on them until they're hot to the touch. Let them cool completely, then take out the curlers. If they're too curly, run the blowdryer over them, or brush the individual curls out.

I've got Arda's Lulu in sandy brown for a friend's Leader Blue cosplay, and the front is cut and styled as needed. My only problem right now though is that the top and sides won't stay up when trying to spike them.

Help?

>> No.6366487

>>6366476
It's pretty ghetto, but whenever I have that problem I make sure the wig is super securely pinned, then rig up a janky way to hang the wig head upside down so the spikes can be set without gravity weighing them down.

I'm looking for a good Sailor Moon wig. Could anyone point me in the right direction? I'm scared to just pick one off eBay since I know people have been having issues with SM wigs fitting properly. So if anyone has bought a Sailor Moon wig before that they really liked or had a bad experience with a certain wig, please recommend it/warn me!

question!

anyone wear wig caps?

>> No.6366726

I do! My hair is too short to braid up and pin, but it likes to escape from wigs. So, I do use wig caps.

better question-

does anyone /not/ wear wig caps? even when i literally had 2 inch long hair i wore wig caps.

also, does anyone have tips for long hair under wig caps? i've always done the two braids wrapped around the head but what does everyone else do?

i think that's more because of poor wig cap-ing than lack of wig cap.

>>6366741
that's what i always did on my long haired roommate, but it's not super easy to do with extensions. like it's hard to get a proper bobby-pin in tight to my head.

>> No.6366808

Despite wearing wig caps, I always end up with some hair peeking out at the nape of my neck. No amount of spraying or wetting or pinning can hide it all.

Some people just have hair growth that starts lower than a wig cap can reach.

I'm trying to create a cosplay for this character, Whistles, from the comic Starlight Calliope. As you can see he has generally greenish hair and I wanted to basically find a curly wig of a dark color (preferably black) and color it to where if would be green with a black undertone. (kind of like this the color of this http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m8sdp8rriY1r9kc61o2_500.jpg pardon the unruly douche).

I'm thinking dying is out of the question because of the difficulty dying synthetic material and I thought I'd maybe do a temporary Hair color spray (because I also want the wig to look a little stiff and matte in color) but I don't know if it would turn out too glossy or get the desired effects I want. And I can barely find the right length and consistency wig for the job.

I thought of this
http://www.amphigory.com/wigs_a_soprano.html but in black

tl;dr
Trying to find a good dark curly wig for this stupid ass clown cosplay and want to hair color spray it without it looking like shit. Help a brother out in possible both categories? Or either you can manage

>> No.6368707

>>6356192
guys, seriously? that is like the simplest hair style. just do a side ponytail without pulling the ponytail all the way through. the tail end gets up like that because it's trapped going upwards when you don't pull it all the way through the hair band.

>> No.6368728

does anyone know of a really good premade Mami wig?

I tried using the Leia from Arda to make my own but it was way too thick and didn't keep the style,
