I used glass stain on my Terezi glasses and could barely see anything. It was like trying to see through red puddles. I got actual red lenses later which made it so much easier. Not trying to make excuses for the Sollux cosplayer, but while glass stain looks good, it's hard to wear.

I have, and while I do agree that glass stain is a bit hard to see through, I'd rather do that than use a pair of blatantly inaccurate glasses. I just wear them lower on the bridge of my nose when I'm walking around, and put them back in place when it's time for pictures. I think it's a combination of laziness and just being cheap. There are other methods to make or even buy (akujincos off the top of my head), but in the end a lot of cosplayers in this fandom are young and want the cheapest route.

I used Ben Nye, sealing spray, powder and paint. My neck and face looked great, didnt smear, I applied everything properly. My arms and hands kept smearing though no matter how much powder and sealer I put on it. I don't know what I did wrong and it ruined my shirt.

Men have naturally thinner legs than women do, a woman's shape is more curvy unless they are an underfed/anorexic mess. Female bodies have more thigh, men are more flat.
So when a girl who is crossplaying wears skinny jeans you get to see her thighs getting squished into something that is not very flattering for her body. When dudes do it... well, it fits them like a glove.

So I'm putting together a Homestuck panel for an upcoming convention. I've got a handful of friends and acquaintances already cast, whom I already know are good cosplayers, strong actors, and will be professional about the whole thing.
I'm looking to round out the cast a bit, though, and I'd prefer not to hold auditions; the whole process seems to cause more drama than is necessary, and it seems to make a whole lot more sense to work with people you already know. However, a term I hear thrown around a lot in relation to these panels (and casting in general) is 'elitism'- the idea that someone running a panel will only cast their friends, even if someone better is available for the role.
So, /cgl/, what I'd like to know is- who are your favorite Homestuck panelists? Not just in terms of cosplay, but in terms of their acting strength as well?

Hey /cgl/, I'm this Condesce and I was actually wondering if I could get some help/advice on the horns. The ones I wore to AB are, as you can tell, kind of garbage. I'd like to re-make them for Katuscon, but I'm not totally sure how to avoid the problems I ran into the first time. The biggest obstacle was weight--I made some really smooth horns the first go around, but they were just too heavy and I had to trash them. In the end, I went with carved insulation foam with spackle, which I could wear comfortably but look pretty shitty.

I think I'll still go with an insulation foam base, but I could use some advice on how to finish them so they don't come out so lumpy and rough, but still lightweight enough for my head. Additionally, if anyone has info on carving tools, that would also be MASSIVELY appreciated--I used an electric hot knife that charred the plastic in places and made it hard to sand smoothly. Thanks in advance!

On the topic of blinged-out Condesces--I love the variation I've seen for her character. Madamcthulhu's is absolutely gorgeous, her horns are works of art. But I also really love Ineloquentformalities' super-canon one--that ultra-clean, graphic look is pretty cool to see brought to life. I like that people have fun with the design!

But Tumblr is populated by immature and often underaged people who get jealous before actually appreciating your cosplay work. I do agree that sometimes it has to do with networking; if you have friends that are BNFs who will reblog things, you'll definitely get noticed. but generally, good cosplayers just want to talk with other good cosplayers. I at least don't care whether or not someone is "famous", I just like talking to talented and cute cosplayers! I've met some great people that way, and I'm really happy when they do get noticed for their cosplays!

if you think about it, it saves a lot of time and energy when it comes to bodypaint on arms. Armsocks are significantly harder to get a hold of than tights for your legs, so its an easy shortcut. I think it can look pretty good!
When it comes to headcanons and artistic liberties in homestuck cosplay I'm all for it, as long as it's pulled off well, the character designs are rather boring, I enjoy seeing people shake it up a bit, as long as it works.

Trim the bangs so they're not hanging into her eyes, take the lace off the scalloped hem (if you want a trim to make it fancy, try that webby-looking thing that an Aranea did), paint the hands, space the horns a little farther (at the angle they're coming out of her head at, they need to be sitting lower on the sides of her head),
and then we'll talk.

The face/decolletage makeup is well-done, though, and the horns and wig on their own look good.

Painting hands is much easier than painting an entire arm and the inside of your elbow. From experience, the inside of the elbow is one of the first places to wear off.

Meenah's wig is wrong, Aranea put the fucking blush DOWN (horns could be better too), Latula's glasses are wrong, Kankri's horns look weird (it's the paint I guess?), Kurloz is really shit-tier and Meulin is the only one that looks good. (she could outline her eyebrows a little more though)
