Hey /cgl/!

I'm going to cosplay Princess Bubblegum soon. I have friends who are going to be Marceline, Finn and Jake.

I'm new to this whole thing, and I'm having a ton of trouble with my dress. I'd like to make it myself because it's a relatively easy design, but I have zero experience with sewing and I don't know anyone who would really be able to help me. Unless someone can convince me that I can make a decent dress as a beginner, I'm going to have to buy and alter one. Any ideas? I've been searching ebay and the rest of the internet for hours but I really can't find anything close enough. I don't want to spend much on the dress... under $30 would be ideal. I still have to buy a wig (speaking of that, if anyone has links for good PB wigs that'd be awesome too) and everything, and I'm not looking to spend a fortune on this costume.

Oh, and a side question - should we dress in our characters' standard outfits or should we base our costumes on the 'What Was Missing' episode? I've found a website where I can buy Marceline's rock t-shirt that Bubblegum wears as pajamas, and I could wear that over a pink dress like in the episode. But it would probably be less recognizable.

Thanks in advance!

Here's the t-shirt I'm referring to

I was thinking of maybe wearing a lab coat, too (not with the t-shirt obviously).

I'm likely going to wear her standard dress, though. The other things are just ideas.

A pink 80s prom dress could work pretty well

Another question (sorry, aha): Should Marceline and I go to the trouble of painting our skin? Or is it not worth it? Does it really even add much to the costume?

A dress like that would be ideal for a beginner. As long as you have a sewing machine, it'll be cake. Try and find the patterns when Joanne's does Thier crazy ass pattern sales for 1 or 2 bucks. Fabric, as long as you're not a ham beast and you have coupons should be pretty inexpensive. Don't go for shitty quilters cotton. You can do it :)

Hey, you're right. Did a quick google search and http://www.rustyzipper.com/shop.cfm?viewpartnum=217687 is pretty perfect but it's been sold... got any links?

Thanks! I'll definitely consider it.

The sleeves are going to be your biggest enemy, but even they won't be too bad.

If you have a second-hand store nearby (Goodwill, etc.) you can look around for a dress that's patterned similarly to her's and just take it apart by the seams. Make sure you measure your from your waist to your ankles for the skirt-portion.

I like the T-Shirt idea, though. As long as you have the wig, crown, and possibly Marceline, you'd be recognized.

PB is pretty easy to recognize anyway because of that hair and crown.

Found this one, but it's a bit pricey...

The problem with a lot of PB-cosplayers is that they go too pink, so I wouldn't recommend it.
If you can get pink blush and dust it all over yourself, you'd probably be fine...?

Marceline... if you have time to get body paint, go for it, but if not, it's fine enough.

Check out the local thrift stores, like goodwill and such. I got a decent prom dress like PB's for 3 dollars. They also have labcoats and stuff

Hey OP, PB's dress should be fairly simple to make, but maybe another option would be this one? It's really simple too, if you decide that you don't want to make it, I imagine that you could find a dress like it that you could alter very easily. Also, this dress is similar enough to her original dress that I doubt you'd have any trouble being recognized.

That's actually a pretty good idea, thanks!

Anyone else?

Where the hell do people get those model sheets?
I just looked on Cartoon Network's site and it's giving me nothing.

Look on the Adventure Time wiki. The character galleries have all the model sheets, promo art, etc.

Don't really have tips on the dress since I pretty much suck at sewing, but for PB's crown I would suggest an easy way to do it would be just buy some craft foam and spray paint it. Then just find some big jewel at a hobby lobby or wherever.

Hey OP, I think this>>6312262
is a pretty good idea for your budget, if you get a pattern it could be easy to make. They also sell her science barbeque shirt here.

I disagree, have a look at >>6313621
They both painted their skin. You should never forgo the pink for PB, it looks incomplete. Even if you're pale to begin with, you should always make yourself pink!

But yeah, Marceline without paint looks fucking terrible.

Why would she choose that makeup? That expression? That pose? Augh.

If you're doing it for Halloween/casualtime I wouldn't bodypaint is a pain in the butt to apply and you're going to probably be recognizable enough with the hair and crown.

If it's for a con I'd do it. Cons generally call for more accuracy
