Alright, this shit has gone far enough. If you dress as a lolita People outside of your circle won’t think you are adorable, hot or intelligent they just assume the fallowing.
-You are an emotional wreck who is bipolar/chronically depressed, or was molested/abused as a child. And have yet to address this and carry it with you.
- You are bad with money, cannot hold down a job for more than 5 months, probably spend large amounts on clothing that you don’t even use often and are probably swimming in debt.
- You dress in large fluffy clothing to hide how fat you are because you really hate yourself, and how you look. Or you dress in this fashion to make people think you are sweet innocent and adorable when deep down you don’t think you appear or feel that way at all.
- You are frankly slutty and therefore easy. You think you are in love easily after meeting someone, and probably get undressed after the second date, and you quickly become overly needy. You probably have cryonic self-esteem issues because of this.
- You are, rash, arrogant, irrational when mad, quick to anger, and really are often times a total bitch, and overall in life you are bitter about something, or just plain mean, making you uncomfortable to be around.

- you are shallow, spend most of your time thinking about how you look and how others view you rather than doing something productive or something that makes you actually happy with your spare time. You are an attention whore who fantasizes about having people fawn over you and are not happy otherwise, and you have lost friends and relationships in the past because of this on more than one occasion.
- You don’t have control over your life or situation and for the most part will make other people’s lives more completed probably because you behaviors are very destructive. You may be interesting to look at, but you are not worth the time to get to know or have a deep conversation with. You are dismissed and forgotten just as quickly as you make an impression on someone.
Other people assume this when you dress in this fashion, frankly because most of the time there right. People who think otherwise usually have no prior experience with being around people like you and learn very quickly.

Assumption I make about people dressed in lolita:

>What a fucking weeaboo.

>> No.6304496 [DELETED]

Lynette Larson had an affair whale she was engaged, then broke up with him for some one she met on the internet for tow years then went back tow him and is now re engaged again. and when she did it she did it outside without a condom and only 20 feet away from a road construction crew behind some bushes. this is a fact.

Lolita is a weird fashion, anyone can see that. If you wear it, you're either completely unaware or you're well aware and have already reconciled with the fact that people will make judgments about you based upon it. Most people here are older, and are part of the latter group.

Why should anyone care what others think when it comes to what they wear? Life is to short spend it worrying about what others think of your clothing. You need to dress to please yourself, not others. After all, it's your life and your body, not theirs.

As a lolita myself I wear these cloths for no one but myself. Its just cloths, a fashion style same as any other generic style out there (goth, emo, chav etc..) it is just an underground style that is increasing in popularity. I wear this fashion for myself, no one else for me it's just a way to dress up nicely.

Personally I do not like to wear trousers and badly sewn cloths. Lolita dresses can easily be worn in a "western" style like a sun dress, but dressing in the full frills is just nice. I still do my daily routines. I cook. I clean. I do the housework. I go to work. I am in a healthy relationship.

I earn my money and I am going to spend it on whatever I want. It just so happens to be that lolita clothing is something I enjoy. Just like any other hobby or enjoyment in life. Personally any alternative style gets crap, even dressing in jeans and a T shirt I have had issues, its just cloths at the end of the day trying to make a bull post this this >>6304386

Is just judging a bunch of people because of one person's view or fetish of what they think a certain style is. When I was a goth/Punk I got perverts all the time thinking I was some sort of fetish model or bold lesbian, in lolita I mostly get "barbie" comments or really lovely people giving me compliments. Everyone has their own experiences but it is JUST CLOTHS, any one who takes it too seriously truly has a problem, again it just so happens I really enjoy wearing lolita and so I wear it daily. If I liked any other fashion style I'd do the same.

Why do it then? It can't be the occasional compliment you're talking about; you can get those when you dress normally.
With cosplay you're also seen as most of these things, but the difference is there is a specific source for it as well as a time and a place.
I guess I don't buy that you say you enjoy compliments and how you look, but then claim not to care when there's negativity.

I enjoy how I look to the point where negativity doesn't matter. That's how I do it. I feel good in the outfit. Why would I care how I strange perceives me? The person I'm dating loves it. I love it. My family loves it. The only ones that don't are /random strangers/. So- I don't give a care. Why give up something I love because people I don't give a fuck about don't like it? That's stupid.

Fair's does if that is you're opinion. Just saying this is just how it is for me. The area where I live has a lot of different style cultures so being a lolita here is not anything special. Too many people wear it.

I guess you've never herd that people have different opinions. To you, you may feel lolita is stupid, childish, age play or even just plain over the top. If that is you're opinion good for you, everyone is different but for me its like putting my knickers on everyday, I don't really tend to think about it.

Its just a fun fashion, I'd feel the same wearing any other fashion style. ANY STYLE In the world comes wit negativity but I honestly just laugh it off. Do you think that all lolita's are bffs? The lolita community, (especially online) is full of catty people. Most lolita's always argue over something in fact one of my best friend is a lurker here.

Just because someone wears a certain style does not mean they are any different a person. Cloths don't make you nice, its the personality that backs it that makes the person. I know many loli's who get into fights, smoke pot, take drugs and then on the other spectrum I know many loli's who are nurses, straight edge, full time working parents...

Everyone is different. Cloths do not make the person, just sayin'

Unless you're at work, an event or some sort, a funeral, or a place where chances are high your clothes will get dirty or damaged, you can wear whatever you want whenever you want wherever you want. How is just doing stuff around town or hanging with friends not a time and place to dress in non-mainstream clothing? You don't have to be a slave to t-shirt and jeans everywhere you go unless there's a specific reason to wear something different.

For the compliments, I know for myself, I don't wear lolita for complements. Why would I? If someone tells me it's cute, that's a nice moment, but it's all whatever. Frankly I find it a bit awkward if someone stops me to say they like my outfit. It's like "okay thanks, bye".

I do agree some lolita's piss me off. Some go over bored and act over fake the whole "over kawaii" thing. It annoys me, but that is their choice even if I think them faking who they are is annoying.

I think lolita attracts people who have low confidence issues. Most of which feel dressing in lolita makes them happy and builds there confidence up so it does attract a lot of "forever alone" teens.

I know just because I think its "just cloths" doesn't mean everyone does. I know some people who treat the fashion more like a religion

Wear what you like and what appeals to you. The world isn't an only clothing people consider normal zone.
I wear regular clothes and I wear lolita. I wear whatever I feel like putting on that day. And that's how it should be for people. Your decision on what you feel like wearing to the store shouldn't be based on what strangers will think of it.

What boundaries are people crossing by wearing lolita? It's clothing. There are men that get sexually excited seeing women in pants suits. Should women stop wearing it because there are people that consider it sexy? Same can be said about a ton of women's fashions.
If men are getting sexual thrills from me wearing a knee length poofy dress, that sounds like their own personal problem and is of no concern to me. They need to learn to control themselves.

No one asked you to stop, don't worry about that.
It seems clear based on the defensive reactions many of you give that you're used to opposition. Given the point raised about lolita's esteem and attention issues, could it be that the negative attention serves as a preferable substitute to little or no attention at all?
I wouldn't expect any of you to admit something like this, especially since it may just be on a subconscious level, but it's food for thought.

Me in particular? I wear mostly casual lolita, so I'm not as into crossing boundaries as others. I don't like outfits that stand out as specifically lolita or "out there". I still stand out a bit, but not so much that people ask why I'm wearing what I am. I've only ever gotten compliments when wearing it in casual way.

However, I can understand how others might, specifically for the "fun" aspect. Sure, you can be playful with clothes while wearing relatively normal clothing, but there is something a little invigorating about just saying "fuck it" and wearing something that feels more fantastical than practical or normal. I don't know how to really describe it other than "fun". It's fun to jostle people's expectations - some are confused, but most recognize that you're purposefully pushing a boundary, and really enjoy it (so long as the setting is appropriate). It's novel for them, and injects a little light-hearted enjoyment into your own life. At least, that's how I've always perceived it.

All people have been telling you is why they wear the fashion & why they won't stop wearing it.
Lolita is just a fashion. Anything that's not toned down normal clothing will get attention from people. There's even a thread on one of these pages talking about how even wearing dressier regular clothing gets people stares from strangers. And apparently it's negative stares half the time. The norm for society (at least in the USA) is jeans, and some sort of plain shirt. Anything more than get will get stares. And if you like wearing more than that, then you just have to deal with the stares, because by god if you're going to let people's reactions and looks keep you in one type of clothing forever. Now that is a bit of a rude statement if you knew loltia fashion history, the style is inspired by British and western culture. It is inspired by rococo and Victorian dresses.

I may have been a bit weebish when I was a teenager I will admit that, but as an adult the way I wear lolita is certainly more elegant. A weebaoo is someone who "abuses" the culture and for me I can honestly say I know very little of anime and I am actually studying Japanese as i wish to be a tutor. Judging people for how they dress is incredibly childish I must say and can be quite taken as quite a negative when you try and push an opinion upon someone.

I don't dress lolita because while I like the aesthetic, there are lots of aesthetics I enjoy and I also like blending into a crowd. In my dream world, we are all amazing lolitas. Other issue is the weebs here that harass anyone attractive, Asian, cosplaying, nerdy, Lolita, or, God have mercy, anyone who is all of the above, because the weebs at my college are disgusting people who want to believe they are alpha ughoo kawaii.

That being said.

There are two camps of cosplayers/lolitas here. The weebs, which I've described, who have shit-tier stuff and are kinda as described. They buy overpriced stuff and complain that they don't win contests for basically wearing Leg Avenue costumes with overpriced accessories that don't even match the cosplay but are "similar" (they are not).

Then, there are the cosplayer/lolitas that do stuff on the side and when they do it, go all out. They make their costumes, go to cons, live normal lives. Only one of them wears lolita nearly daily, but she wears it in a really casual way: bodyline/other less expensive brands or home made stuff, less frilly/patterned, more plain/solid colored but not in black or white or pastels: seasonal, so right now, lots of brown, gray, oxblood, etc. She just looks like a very feminine girl who likes frilly skirts, and nobody thinks jackshit about it, except the weebs who are dicks about it because they wear rainbow tutus from Hot Topic daily that they never wash, and their outfits are shit, neither /fa/ nor /cgl/ approved.

OP generalizes and that sucks.

Well, to answer one question, how lolita is treated in other countries: In Asian countries, such as Japan, lolita is slightly more acceptable, but overall it's still seen as pretty "weird". Everyone pretty much knows what it is, so you won't be confronted on that front. And because it's more common/understood, it's not seen as as surprising. However, it's still generally perceived as strange/odd.

I think I've watched all of 2-3 in the past 4 years. The history is good, but that would mark me as a history major, not a weeb.

None of the cool ones are emotional wrecks, they all have jobs and save most of their money, spending their money in a smarter way than the weeb kids (1 piece for 200 instead of 20 pieces for 40), are pretty fit because they're normal people that work out or eat right and don't live on pocky and ramune, which is a treat and not a meal, they're not slutty because they're busy, aren't bitchy, aren't shallow and obsessed with /cgl/ stuff, and at least they can write a better post than OP and make better arguments.

On the other hand, among the weeb kids, a good portion are emotional wrecks and are bad with money. One of them ordered a bunch of pocketwatches off of etsy because they were "handmade" (at $20/each? really?) even after I linked her to the wholesaler and an eBayer selling them cheaper, and pointed out that the seller on etsy didn't even remove the wholesaler's watermark.

A few of them are fat but they still wear clothes that don't fit their bodies well, or anyone's, for the most part. For instance, one girl is massive and really really gay. Like gay-gay. She never shuts up about it so she always wears rainbow knee-high toe socks with rainbow flip flops, black shirts with a rainbow motif, black skirts, etc. Rainbow and black 100% of the time, but the blacks and the rainbows don't all match up (different shades) and she looks like a mess, and it's too tight on her too.

Some of the weebs are wannabe sluts, some aren't. A good number are dicks, but that's because they're weebs and there's a mob mentality with that group, but nobody here really hates them, we just feel sorry for them.

No idea how "no control over life or situation" is an argument, OP, because if it's true that they have no control over their lives, why are you blaming them for something they have no control over? Would you also shame the mentally retarded or the maimed?

It's more common than in the US, but it's not something that most or even a lot of people wear. There is a lot of mainstream "cute" style though, so certain aspects of lolita that are strange in the US are more acceptable there: contacts, wigs, fake nails, and what would be considered childlike symbols are actually pretty normal there for teens and young adults (and even middle-aged adults to a certain degree). Full on lolita, though, is still not "typical" by a long-shot.

Some of these people are more than a pretty face and with /cgl/ stuff, it's less creepy for me to approach someone for having a cool outfit than it would be for me to approach someone for having a very /fa/ outfit. I met a few of my friends that have /cgl/ interests through conversations about their outfits that, like any convo, turned into a conversation about other stuff, leading to us getting to know each other and (gasp) becoming friends!

Is lolita, /cgl/, or the lolita community as a whole perfect? No. Is it black and white? No. I'm sure that lots of my friends that are currently cool /cgl/ people used to be as lame if not lamer than the weebs, but they've matured and grown, and in time, hopefully the weebs will too, and while the weebs are annoying, it's not like they're too terrible because they keep their issues contained in their own clique, and that's perfectly fine. They hate everyone else, nobody really likes them, but that's pretty much it. None of "teh evil prepz" are bullying them or anything.

Note: I do have friends in the cool /cgl/ category who have shitty outfits, and there are a few kids in the weeb group with shit outfits, it's just that one group does dress better than the other, but that's not why I'm friends with one group over the other. It's only repetitive to you because you're familiar with it and take it for granted. I know you all claim not to care, but if you want more acceptance, you have to be more open.

>>6305240
See, this makes things more understandable. It doesn't answer how the style manage to cross cultures, but I think we can infer a few things just based on where we are right now.

Because almost everyone has dealt with a negative stereotype. Girls who play lacrosse deal with the lacrosstitute stereotype. Athletes are called jocks and evil prepz, girls who dress normally/"/fa/" are called shallow when some of them really don't give a shit what they wear and are just wearing what their parents send them/clothes to blend in (what I do), LGBT people get compared to Gay Pride Parade people and die cis scummers, etc.

In every group, there are dicks. There's no dick-free group, or I'd join it. Lolita has shitty people, cosplay has shitty people, every board has shitty people too. There are assholes on /fa/ who think neo-nazi looks are the only good look and are basically people from /pol/ who can't think past aesthetics, there's pretty much all of /pol/ and their men's rights' activists, there's the assholes on /x/ who pretend they're actually wizards, there's the /mlp/ raiders, the /soc/ attentionwhores who people dislike (as opposed to ones people do like), the people who post on /sci/ for homework help, people on /r/ who post a million requests and answer none, people who post comics nobody wants to see on /d/, etc.

There are always going to be people that only see black people as thugs, gays as deviant pedophiles, women as sex toys, etc. And do their opinions usually matter? No.

The reason people here hate the weebs is because they're dicks, the same way some of the athletes here are dicks, but the weebs push it. If the lacrosse team was practicing in the library, people would be upset too. They'd be upset if the theatre kids used the library as a practice space too, or if the athletes were yelling threats at people, or if the College Democrats were harassing Asians about facts about Japan when asked to stop. If there was a worse group, we'd hate them, and I'm sure that somewhere, there's a group of Goths pulling this shit, a group of /diy/ kids, a group of computer science majors, etc.

Get the fuck over it.

What part of "Its just cloths" was not got? Have I not said that through this whole post? Just sayin saying i "have to be more open" is a bit of a condescending contrition to yourself considering I have said this non stop

Fashion is ever evolving. It changes all the time, you'll find even high street fashion has dresses inspired by lolita fashion these days. Even fairy kei, gyaru etc... Fashion is an metamorphose. Many things mix to create something it is just how it is. I can not answer "how the style manage to cross cultures" without making you sound a bit dumb. (no offence intended)

I'd call it common scene and culture. People form around the world all live ALL AROUND THE WORLD, we all try different cultures all the times whether it is FASHION or food! It is normal to cross cultures, it human nature

So surround yourself with smarter people and give less of a shit what idiots have to say because they literally don't know better, and it sucks but whatever.

Valuing everyone's opinion is ridiculous. You can be polite and listen to what they have to say, but you don't have to agree with what they say or anything.

For instance, I have a homophobic grandma who is really really racist too, so she goes on rants and also calls me names (I'm half Asian, she's full white) but whatever. I honestly don't care too much, I've never even cried about it, because I don't like her much either, but I know my dad does, and I don't like him but I'm nice to him because he's a sad man. And they're not even American! They're Brits.

I pass by hundreds of people a day, living in a city. How many of them see me and hate me and think something about me based on something shallow? Probably a lot, I don't care, it's not worth thinking about.

I suppose it's good you're owning up to the dark side of lolita, though I don't think anyone would deny it.

>>6305269
I wasn't directly asking you how the fashion moved here, but since you mention it, it seems safe to assume places like this and people like you have acted as a bridge.
This does beg another question, though: how long has lolita been around on this side of the world? What really got you all into it in the first place?

You're twisting what I wrote. I didn't say there is a dark side of Lolita at all. The group I was talking about is a mix of different people, one or two of whom think they're Lolita and identify as such when nobody here would consider them that, but maybe the average person wouldn't know the difference. Still, nobody hates them for being Lolita, they hate them for other things.

This isn't a dark side of Lolita issue, it's about how some people are dicks, Lolita or otherwise.

You can be a dick and be a baseball player, a mechanic, a Goth, a prep, someone on Wall Street, a gay, a trans person, whatever. You can also be one of those things and not be a dick. Being a dick isn't group specific, but dicks are louder than non-dicks and can make a group bad, but that doesn't mean the group is actually bad.

For instance, if someone has a cap on a tooth, it makes their mouth look bad, but the rest of the teeth are perfectly fine. It's just the cap is different and that's what people sometimes focus on. But nobody who matters or has half a brain sticks in that narrow minded mindset for long.

Ah I see, a rhetorical question was it? My apologies.

Good point. This info may differ to most but this is what I had discovered. Well from what I've discovered from my research lolita started getting spotted in England at least in the mid 1990's. It was mostly spotted due to visuel kei music, like malice mizer and fashion designers Viviene Westwood when she made her rocking horse shoes range.

For me I was introduced to the fashion from a young age but never truly got into it until was roughly 14. I was heavily into J rock music at that point, Malice mizer being one of them. At first I met a few of my Japanese friends down London who helped buy me my first co-ord, I did a bit of research and well that was it really. The intricate designs, the dress construction and mostly the elegant fit of the dresses more or less shot gunned me in the face. I was quite a goth/punk as a teen and when I discovered lolita properly (my first brand item was from Metamorphose) it just fitted me so well. I do not mean he shape, more who I was.

I did enjoy goth cloths and punk, but the tight fitted rough style to me did not speak who I was, I put on a dress and started wearing them daily. It was just comfortable, easy to get and something I enjoyed. I haven't looked back since TBH

Go look up Malice Mizer and you'll see.
It's a mix between Gothic and Lolita. Hence, EGL or Elegant Gothic Lolita, a term coined by Mana.
Mana would be the guy you see in dresses, by the way.

Maybe the music? I learned of other lolita styles when I kept up to date with my favorite Japanese musicians TBH, most of those artist happened to be Goth.

So Goth bands/ visual kei going more Gothic lolita I guess? I tend to wear more hime and sweet style clothes TBF

Originally Lolita was very flat. There was Gothic Lolita, Sweet lolita and Classic. Any other styles were classed as just 100% sub styles that weren't very popular, but as time grew so did the fashion, hence why not there are many styles of lolita fashion.

Mana is basically the guy who made lolita famous, he took on the look that was a sub style and its popularity grew massively.

It truly was, the use of bad lace was short lived but back then it was basically mostly handmade, so people used what they could to make the dresses.
