The earth shattering disappointment replacing the expressions of utter euphoria was the worst part, I think.

Once I was just in regular ol' gothic lolita and had my hair in pigtails, and people just thought I was a shitty Misa. It was frankly embarassing, because this was this past Otakon, so to be a shitty Misa in 2012 would mean people thought I was just...wow, very retarded. Mortifying. There is actually a pretty legitimate reason for people confusing your Drocell for Joker, and vice versa. Drocell is only in the anime, while Joker is only in the manga. There are people who have only watched or read one of the two. Furthermore Drocell only appears in a couple episodes of the anime so he is unlike Alois and Claude, who appear as main characters for the second season. Their outfits are very different, yes, but it's not a stretch for people who might think that you're an artbook version of Drocell/Joker.

Also apparently people can't remember outfits for shit. So there's that.

90% of ITT people getting mistaken for characters with very minor differences from the one they're actually cosplaying. Seriously guys people that don't cosplay don't pay that much attention to detail on characters appearance. Even with more complex costumes that you make yourself, you always notice smaller details when you start to break it down and plan out the construction. You can't expect most people to differentiate between one anime girl in a school uniform from another, especially in passing.

I imagine Zelda is the only female character they knew from Zelda.

I can see the similarities in some of the color schemes what with green coats and blonde hair, but there are also a lot of big details that were very different. Still, several people confused the characters.

I particularly enjoyed when one girl came up to me and proceeded to critique my costume and tell me how badly I fucked up details or left things out - then I told her I wasn't cosplaying Jack. She stopped talking abruptly, said, "Oh....." and she scurried away. The look on her face was priceless.
