Just because you put on a poofy skirt with a petticoat, doesn't mean you can call it lolita. It has all the shitty elements of goth and punk and casual lolita. Having a gothic haircut doesn't make it 'crypt' or whatever the fuck.
Also, casual, punk and ero are the worst things about lolita fashion besides OTT and new style sweet (I don't mind old school stuff, back before prints and it was all about the lace and ruffles for decoration)

I wouldn't really call the 'punk style' lolita. I never really understood why it was always classified as a sub-catagory.

I wish people would focus more on making their outfits look good, rather than to "loli-fy" everything.

Everyone wants to be a magical ~*LOLITA*~, and will try to shoehorn their personal style into the guidelines of the fashion to be accepted into the subculture.

This especially sucks when people have no sense of fashion in either "genre" of clothing.

Or they are an attention-whore, who wants all the notes on Tumblr for being a special snowflake pastel goth-steampunk-OTT-classical lolita.

Correction: those preppy shits were "fashionpunks". They weren't really punk, they just adopted the label to be edgy and different.

Think of it this way- you know how sometimes in threads it pops up that fakebois piss everyone off because of how they're ruining everything for real FTMs by calling themselves trans? It's like that. In your case, you met a bunch of fashionpunks, so don't form your entire opinion of punk from them, because they weren't really punks.

In my experience, the quality of Doc's suck nowadays. Four years ago, I got a new pair, and within a year, I had to take them to a cobbler.

They're getting trendy as fuck. Pretty designer patterns, classier ladies styles, and all that shit.

It's not all bad though. My friend is able to incorporate her purple eight-hole boots in Lolita coordinates. It's a nice example of incorporating a non-Lolita style in a way that doesn't scream lazy and desperate (like most of the examples in this thread).

But implying that Docs are the quintessential punk shoe is really outdated. (As is the most of the punk subculture, to be honest.)

>> No.6276190

I wouldn't say it's the quintessential shoe, and sure, a lot of things are outdated at this point, but it is a recognized symbol of the punk culture for the fact (it used to be) quite a durable shoe. Its an element that we can all relate to being punk, regardless if you choose to wear them or not these days. And yes, there are some pretty amazing lolita outfits that have Docs in them.

>> No.6276194

honestly this whole thread gets my goat 'cuz it forgets that J-punk is a veeery different thing than Western punk, and Lolita DID start in Japan. Since you seem to know a bit about them, do you mind if I ask whether they really do stretch that much? I tried a pair on and they were fine lengthwise but tight across the bridge. I know everyone says they get broken in but... really?

>> No.6276316

If they're only a bit tight on you, then you're fine, they will be come more comfortable. They get broken in, sure, and they stretch, but not as much as some people tend to make out. They're not magic shoes. If they are very tight on you across the bridge, you may need to go another size up. I know it's annoying when the length is perfect on you, but your feet will thank you in the long-run.
My Docs are very old, though (from the 90s/early 00s, lol), so somebody who owns a more current pair may want to chime in there.

>> No.6276317

No, because the phrase "punk is dead" refers to the scene aspect. Compare punk in the Sid Vicious/Sex Pistols days to now. See the difference?

Punk had it's time, it came and it went. Lolita is fairly new outside of Japan and still relatively unknown. Everyone knows what punk is, or is at least familiar with it. But go up to a random person on the street and ask them if they know what lolita is and they'll either have no idea or look at you like a pervert.
