There are plenty of other examples out there, where they either have little cosplayer presence at all or the people dressing up like X character aren't the most attractive. But it's starting to sound more like a self-esteem issue than anything. "Getting mogged" is a frame of mind, and owning a cosplay hard enough, in itself, will go incredibly far. Since you're already open enough to crossdressing, it means you're already over the biggest hurdle

i did do lase before, mostly because my beard was always painful to shave (i always cut myself and ended up scarring) and it never quite grew right, so i got rid of most of it.

its growing again because i havent done laser in like 6mos, so you can see the beginning of a beard shadow

Only think laser done for me was permanently reduce the speed of regrowth even after years not having it, dark hair follicles are still quite visible but whatever, I wear full makeup anyway, does the job. Electrolysis is great, but expensive. Really, if you just want to reduce regrowth overall, laser is worth it.

You can make them from 1" thick foam. Here's a pic of mine- I'm 5'-5" so scale as needed.

The smaller round one can be placed under the larger one for more thickness.

I wouldn't floof up a pleated skirt with petticoats since pushing it out evenly in all directions isn't a flattering shape. Hip padding is the way to go. There are NO qualified/competent FFS surgeons in europe.
Only facialteam and they charge a shitload and are very conservative with the changes(its almost a meme at this point, they are extremely safe surgeons but most people wont get the results they want due to it)

male facial hair tends to be coarse and deeply set in there, but it's def not the worst place to get done by far. if you can take body waxing you can take face waxing.

i should probably warn that it can make your beard thinner with repeated use-- sometimes areas waxed over and over get sparser, idk if the follicles die or what. so i wouldn't do it regularly if you value beard fullness in while in boymode. if you're not crazy about your facial hair, i guess that's an extra perk.

find local salon with good reviews and embrace the merciless touch of some random vietnamese chick. it's a pretty standard proceedure and generally not that expensive. i've found home waxing kits to be more trouble and effort than they're worth.

they'll usually put some soothing after treatment on you but to make the redness go down faster aloe gel (like what you'd use on a sunburn) can help a lot.

You pay the 99% the same as getting lasered except laser will eventually make your face smooth and soft with almost no maintenance in the future.

Time for new hairs to regrow. Electro does not kill every hair 100% of the time as they're in different growth phases and can be very hard to kill. So just because your face got cleared and you walk away absolutely smooth doesn't mean thats it. Hairs that weren't killed will come back, and you need a bit of time for them to resprout and be long enough for the electro person to see them.

is your skin particularly tan or dark? the more melanin you have the less effective laser is, and even a lot of white guys can be too dark for ideal results. male pattern hair is also built a little different from female pattern, which is what laser is geared towards, which is probably why men seem to need twice as many sessions as women do.

I've had the thought of crossplaying for a while, but it has to be the right character. I bought one of the Miccostumes Catwoman costumes, it actually fits me quite well and I find it comfortable but don't think I'd be brave enough to wear it in public. For something I'd actually wear to a con I've been considering Ozen from Made in Abyss, with some not too ridiculous platforms I'd actually be her character height of 2m.
